That appears to be exactly what happened in the video below, posted on Twitter last week. It's unclear where or when this was taken. But it's gotten a lot of attention and generated a fair amount of comment. It's pretty outrageous, any way you slice it. But I have questions...

well hopefully it meant something to him, because he did put it in his pocket, possibly to cherish, if not to consume.

Another thing.. if the parish had a burial after the service, that would have been an opportunity for someone who saw the action to kindly approach the man and offer condolences, mention what they saw, and kindly ask him his reasons for keeping the Host.

I wouldn't be surprised if he kept it as a memento and also as a consolation for his loss. Maybe this was his first time back at mass after a long absence, (and also without confession).

If that was the case, and the Host meant something sacred to him, then we might have an opportunity to offer reconciliation, and bring him back into fellowship, if we act in kindness and not react in outrage.
Under no circumstances is this acceptable. I’m shocked that someone with a Catholic icon would suggest this.
I’ve stopped people who don’t immediately consume.

It should NEVER happen. Priests in my diocese make sure people consume the Body of Christ immediately in front of them before walking off.

I have heard that some people try to use a consecrated host in evil services too.

Ugh I saw this video on Twitter last week, I think Taylor Marshall tweeted it. My comment then was that the man grabs it "like he's picking a card for a magic trick." Utterly repugnant.

I wish the Church would return to medieval punishments for such treachery. He looks like he knows exactly what he's doing.

Ah, the result of recieving communion in the hand. It should be outlawed!!!!

Yup, modernism is to blame as always. When will we kick these pseudo catholics out of our ecclesiastical hierarchy? Low altars, guitars and communion in ones hands...

This thread has undergone a clean. Please keep posts on topic. And remember that noone, Catholic or not, should suggest it is all right to put the Eucharist in a hymnal or pocket it in some manner. If someone does such a thing it actually falls into desecration of the Eucharist and is grounds for automatic excommunication under Canon Law. so do not imply that it is not a serious matter and the Christ by offering Himself to torture and humiliation somehow justifies being the one with the whip and the hammer for the nail.

Every Catholic funeral I have ever served at the priest announces that those that are not Catholic or no longer practicing should obstain from communion and offers a blessing instead. So there is that.

I'm suspicious just like Deacon Kandra. He makes some very good points in the op.
We have an altar rail where we receive the Body and Blood. Can't believe the desecration this guy did.

In my parish, the priest spends about 5 minutes before and a few minutes after with all the extraordinary ministers of communion. I bet if extraordinary ministers of communion were not used at Mass, the total time would be nearly the same.

The priests and deacons are ministers of communion. The lay people are extraordinary ministers of communion.
