Did we miss our turn somewhere?

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:” Revelation 1:1 (KJV 1900)

And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.” Revelation 22:6 (KJV 1900)

Why is it most still look for the visions of Revelation to be fulfilled in the distant future? When Jesus said they would soon come to pass - nearly 2000 years ago?

Could it be we are like a person who misses his turn and still looks for it 2000 miles down the road? Someone too stubborn to take another look at the map?
That is a good analogy.

God offered the Messiah to the Jews, they rejected Him, and had their tribulation for it in 70 AD. But that's only half the story. God then offered the Christ to the world. The world is rejecting him, and will suffer its tribulation for it in the near (not distant) future.
A billion people have accepted Christ in the last 50 years. Nations like Brazil that were 100% cultural Catholics 50 years ago now boast of being 50% evangelical. Doesn't sound like rejection to me.

Psalm 22:26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever. 27 All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the families of the nations shall worship before you. 28 For the kingdom is the LORD'S: and he is the governor among the nations.
Isaiah 60: 3 And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. 4 Lift up your eyes all around, and see; they all gather together, they come to you; your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall be carried on the hip. 5 Then you shall see and be radiant; your heart shall thrill and exult, because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you, the wealth of the nations shall come to you. (ESV)
Isaiah 49:6 He says: “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel; I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”...8 Thus said the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard you, and in a day of salvation have I helped you: and I will preserve you, and give you for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;
Isaiah 11:10 And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.
Isaiah 52:7 How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of him that brings good tidings, that publishes peace; that brings good tidings of good, that publishes salvation; that said to Zion, Your God reigns! ..... 10 The LORD has made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.... 13 Behold, my servant (the messiah) shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high. 14 As many were astonished at you; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men: 15 So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.
Isaiah 42:Behold my servant, (the messiah) whom I uphold; my elect, in whom my soul delights; I have put my spirit on him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. 2 He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. 3 A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment to truth. 4 He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law. 5 Thus said God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which comes out of it; he that gives breath to the people on it, and spirit to them that walk therein: 6 I the LORD have called you in righteousness, and will hold your hand, and will keep you, and give you for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; 7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.

I believe we are in the last 1/2 of Revelation 20 with Satan loosed and Christ's return immanent.

In another thread a poster cited statistics that say out of seven and a half billion people on Earth, only 2.5 billion are Christian. So according to those numbers, two out of three people currently alive are rejecting Christ. In another forum I explored how many people since Adam will make it to Heaven. While we couldn't come to a definitive figure, we thought it was closer to 10%. The Bible says narrow is the way to heaven, wide is the path to destruction. In the whole sum of humanity, only a small portion will be on the new Earth. The rest have rejected him.

Think about what you just said there. You basically claiming that the other 5 billion had the light of Christ manifested to them on the level of Jesus and his apostles walking among them. But are rejecting him. That is not the way it works my friend. The point is 100,000 people a day have been accepting Christ in the last decade. There has never been anything like that happen in the world before. They are not rejecting him. they are just hearing him for the first time. The world does not revolve around you. Sorry to break that to you.

Psalm 67: 1 God be merciful to us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine on us; Selah. 2 That your way may be known on earth, your saving health among all nations. 3 Let the people praise you, O God; let all the people praise you. 4 O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for you shall judge the people righteously, and govern the nations on earth. Selah. 5 Let the people praise you, O God; let all the people praise you. 6 Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us. 7 God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.
Psalm 82: 8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for you shall inherit all nations.
Psalm 86: 9 All nations whom you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord; and shall glorify your name.
Isaiah 2:2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it. 3 And many people shall go and say, Come you, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
Isaiah 54:1 Sing, O barren, you that did not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, you that did not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, said the LORD. 2 Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of your habitations: spare not, lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes; 3 For you shall break forth on the right hand and on the left; and your descendants shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited. 4 Fear not; for you shall not be ashamed: neither be you confounded; for you shall not be put to shame: for you shall forget the shame of your youth, and shall not remember the reproach of your widowhood any more. 5 For your Maker is your husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and your Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.
Isaiah 55:3....I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. 4 Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people. 5 Behold, you shall call a nation that you know not, and nations that knew not you shall run to you because of the LORD your God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he has glorified you. .....10 For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and returns not thither, but waters the earth, and makes it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: 11 So shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth: it shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. 12 For you shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. (The mountains and trees are typical Biblical illustrations of the nations.)13 Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

I am not hostile to you. But to what has you in its grip that is not from your father in heaven. But have a nice night. We all have to live with what we have accepted as the truth.

I think Revelation speaks of an "age" or era, and all fallen era's and what happens in and with them (fallen era's) from the beginning of one, to the end of one, and at the very end of the book (Revelation), a new beginning again... Only it speaks of the new beginning of a not fallen one anymore maybe, or maybe one that starts out not fallen (again) but may have the possibility of becoming fallen again in the future maybe, IDK?, etc...

Problem is it speaks it us spiritually, or in such heavy likenesses or metaphors, etc, that it's difficult to interpret or understand "exactly" or precisely...

Many have tried, and many still do not know for sure, etc...

God Bless!

Post 24 isn't symbolic. But if it is, that's what your position is. You think its all symbolic. So tell us how it was all fulfilled?
You can wait for red dragons to orbit the earth, or you can look for the meaning thinking of it as a symbol.

Honestly a thousand years is as a day to God.
And did not Jesus say you would long to see the Day of the Son of Man and you wont see it?

Luke 17, Did this really already happen? no.
Jesus compares this return as to the time of Noah, when the flood came and destroyed all people, (except them in the ark).
So no its not happened yet, the wicked are still here.

This time is His returning, which Paul also describes in 2 Thessalonians 1.

22 Then He said to the disciples, “The days will come when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. 23 And they will say to you, ‘Look here!’ or ‘Look there!’ Do not go after them or follow them. 24 For as the lightning that flashes out of one part under heaven shines to the other part under heaven, so also the Son of Man will be in His day. 25 But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.

26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 27 They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.

28 Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; 29 but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. 30 Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

31 “In that day, he who is on the housetop, and his goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back. 32 Remember Lot’s wife. 33 Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. 34 I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left. 35 Two women will be grinding together: the one will be taken and the other left. 36 Two men will be in the field: the one will be taken and the other left.”

37 And they answered and said to Him, “Where, Lord?”

So He said to them, “Wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together.”

Eagles EAT their prey, these bodies are the wicked dead, the great supper of God. The wicked are taken away, swept off their feet, in an instantaneous destruction, (sudden destruction comes upon them). 'if it was warfare of armies, that is not a sudden destruction.

The flood of Noah destroyed all the world, this is not a local destruction, it is world wide.
If you do not count Moses' threats to Pharaoh as prophecies, only 11 of 90+ prophecies ever happened the way they were written. So the fact remains, you cannot soothsay the future using scripture, but must wait for the fulfillment before you can understand it.
What did Jesus say about prophecy?

““Now I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe.” John 14:29 (NASB95)

Most will not wait for history to connect the dots. They add dots and think they know history in advance. And it always turns them into false prophets misleading the unstudied.

“So when He was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He said this; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken.” John 2:22 (NASB95)

For example about the New heavens and new earth, we are not living in that age yet, since in that time the whole world will have been regenerated in the regeneration of all things, right now only we have been regenerated, but then also the creation.

“So when He was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He said this; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken.” John 2:22 (NASB95)

I still stand by what I commented on earlier, as that is what is said about the coming destruction of ALL wicked all over the earth, which has not yet happened and wont happen until HE returns.

Regarding the new earth and new heavens wherein dwells righteousness, means the regeneration of all things. Right now only believers have been regenerated, but someday also the creation will be regenerated into the same glorious liberty, freed from sin.

This is still future, and will occur when God creates all things new, not just us as new creatures.
Romans 8:21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

Why is it most still look for the visions of Revelation to be fulfilled in the distant future? When Jesus said they would soon come to pass - nearly 2000 years ago?
In Matthew 24 the disciples had asked Jesus two question: " “Tell us,” they said, “when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?" (Matthew 24) First they wanted to know when the Temple in Jerusalem would be destroyed. We know that event took place in 70 ad. Then thy wanted to know the end of the age when Jesus would be coming. This is an event that we still look forward to as a future event. We know that the church age is going to end in about 10 more years. Then we will enter into the Kingdom age. Is this when Jesus will return? Some say yes, some say no. Some say He will return at the end of the ages when there is a new Heaven and a New Earth.

There is a lot of destruction in Jamaica right now from that last storm. So you can not say it has not happened there.

That is not the Day of the Lord. The Day is the Day of His returning. And the destruction is sudden, so it is unexpected. Those destroyed are like the people of Noah's time or Lot's time.

1 Thessalonians 5:2-4 New King James Version (NKJV)
1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you.
2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.

When Paul wrote this, the people of the church where well educated about the coming destruction to occur at His return, not so much today!

two out of three people currently alive are rejecting Christ.
That is exactly what we read in Zech 13:8,9 "And in all the land, declares the LORD, two-thirds will be cut off and perish, but a third will be left in it. This third I will bring through the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on My name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘They are My people,’ and they will say, ‘The LORD is our God.’”

This is a reference to Israel, we are told this also represents the gentiles and the age of the gentiles. When they talk about a remnant or 10% this is a reference to those who serve God. Or those who will remain to repopulate the earth for the next 1,000 years.

What does "shortly" symbolize?
A lot is made of Revelation 1:1 and it’s use of “shortly”. Usually , folks who use this to say most of Revelation is past will give up their literalism when face with scripture like “ every eye will see him “ Revelation 1:7. I’m a literalist as well as a futurist. However , most of prophecies concerning the Parousia or The Day of the Lord use the words “near” “soon” or “at hand”. The following are some examples.

Isaiah 13:6 - Wail, for the day of the LORD is near!
It will come as destruction from the Almighty.

Isaiah 13:22 - Hyenas will howl in their fortified towers
And jackals in their luxurious palaces.
Her fateful time also will soon come
And her days will not be prolonged.

Joel 1:15 - Alas for the day!
For the day of the LORD is near,
And it will come as destruction from the Almighty

It seems to me The Day of the Lord or the Parousia is spoken of as always “near” or “shortly” to come.

Peter corrects this misunderstanding , in 2 Peter 3:8-9

8But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. 9The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance

No,the only question is: Do your end time prophecy teachings amount to false prophecy.
Let's not be too hasty and assume none are being saved today. Just that Satan is loosed and the Church is being assaulted from without and from within.
