This thread isn't meant to make anyone feel guilty, etc. Some believers wonder if the amount of time spent speaking in tongues is important. Though not specified, it must be noteworthy because

"I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:"

As we are told in Galatians 6:18 to pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests; then undoubteldy most of us (including myself) probably fall well short of this.

Thanks for posting. Biblicist I know what you mean. I know a guy who prays in the Spirit at traffic lights, while his slow internet connection is responding, etc. He says once he started looking for opportunities, he was amazed at how many times during the day there were opportunities. Saved24, yes there are plenty of those times, too.

Well I used to not pray in tongues hardly ever and was not seeing many results from my prayers. I was falling victim to believing the lies of satan that what I was praying wasnt real and I was mocking God by doing it. Well one day the Holy Spirit told me to do it anyway and reminded me of Gods promise that if we ask Him for something good, like speaking in tongues, we will never get something bad (Luke 11:9-13). Ever since then I have seen so many requests answered and mighty moves of God that I make it a habit now to pray in the Spirit many times a day, but like already stated, I'm sute I fall well short of what the Lord wants for us! But praise God there is now no condemnation for us who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1) so when the devil tries to sneak in the back door and tempt me to unbelief I pray in the Spirit and slam the door in satans face! He has nothing in those of us who are God's through Christ Jesus! Hallelujah!

Thanks for this wonderful thread.
I pray in tongues during my regular prayer time and of course in times of trouble or distress.

Oh and in the shower I pray/sing in tongues
However as suggested
I am going to be on the look out for more times to pray in the Spirit.
Thank you Jesus for the this beautiful gift of the Spirit.
Help me to use it more and more.
Lord knows I need to utilize all the weapons at my disposal.

Anyone else witness what I do whenever this subject is raised, that it generally surrounds a report of limited time and mixed w/a bit of defeatist sentiment like; ‘I know it could be better’?

I wheel it along as I feel impressed, and not by a standard. Now do I think Paul’s “more than ye all” was also performed as he was impressed? Yes, as was his demonstrating it before unbelievers “for a sign”.

I believe this revitalised thread could be the means of prompting us all to seek the Lord more intensely and enjoying more 'praying in the Spirit' in our prayer language,as well as praying more with the understanding also. Thankyou 'turt' for bringing it to our attention again!

Wanted to revisit this thread
Possibly, we are still missing something! Really, possibly right back to the thread's title of "Amount of Time"? Though I mentioned it in post-9 as well as your OP, maybe this isn't as fringe as suspected. Maybe a lack of the amount of time devoted to spiritual prayer has everyone glossing-over something far better, who knows, something deeper by His grace?

Wow It has just registered with me, how thrilled I was when the Lord gave me this wonderful gift. I haven't given it it's rightful place in my prayers.

I have spoken in tongues in my personal prayer life and have found edification, encouragement and comfort.
So good to pray in tongues as well as praying with our understanding

After an extended duration, I admittedly begin to feel myself being given to a draining sensation. Is that sensual flesh or the Spirit's leading us to Christ's "light" load. I can't imagine the latter, for all the Apostles gave us instruction on for our part in labor, prayer was the one that is tapped for travailing in, in addition to love towards one another.

Since my last post a had a time where for 3 morning I woke up praying in the spirit. I don't know what the Spirit wanted me to pray about but was interesting to see the Spirit leading me to pray.

I don't know what the Spirit wanted me to pray about, , "
What I have found is, He may entreat you with that specific groaning, then again, He may think it better not to.

", , if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful."

(1 Corinthians 14:14)
