Is Teeth Chattering While Praying a Sign of the Holy Spirit?

the presence of the holy Spirit is not automatically the full filling(baptism) of the holy Spirit . the reaction is likely demonic reaction to the presence of the holy Spirit . get a [person of faith to pray fopr you and cast it out and you will have peace and joy and wont do that any more except by a habitual response that you can stop anytime .

if this link works it shows a lady being baptized in the holy Spirit but at that moment she has a demonic reaction it is driven out , she then speaks in tongues and is FREE .

at lakeland many things went on like Toronto in the 90's .but the whole gospel was not preached and it became more about the feeling then the obedience and repentance . and deceiving spirit came in on the back of people seeking carnal feelings . ( i was among them .. and then i got delivered of a demon some time later and then i could see the falsehood of much of it and repented and now serve god in going out healing the sick preaching the Whole gospel of repentance baptism and holy Spirit evidenced by tongues and a holy Life .
After watching the video, I find it very difficult to accept that what is happening is through The Holy Spirit. When I first came to Christ in a Pentecostal church in 1966, although it was the noisiest, most lit up church in town, with people speaking in tongues, prophesying, passionate preaching of the gospel, joyful heartfelt singing, I never saw anything like what is in that video. There was one incident when a couple of American (!) lady preachers came to the church, and one guy ended up writhing around the floor behaving stupidly. I was fairly young in the faith then, but now I just know that it was mere stupid behaviour instead of The Holy Spirit. It seems that modern Pentecostalism has gone into all sorts of whacky behaviour and attributing it to The Holy Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit shows me that people are sensible and self-controlled in the way they approach God. None of the whacky behaviour is seen in the book of Acts, including the day of Pentecost. The disciples then were reacting with joy and rejoicing and that is why some in the crowd thought they were drunk. They weren't reeling and writhing around like idiots. They were self controlled in their rejoicing.

Demons like to make a grand display in public environments and they are expert in pretending that they are The Holy Spirit, in order to deceive people to think that the manifestations are of God when they are not. I saw the preacher egging the woman on, and so she conjured up the reaction that he was expecting to see. I suspect that she was putting on a pretense while being inspired by the spirit that was deceiving her, and the preacher was deceived into believing that what was and should be happening to her was of the Spirit.

I was in a Pentecostal service recently when the pastor went around whispering in people's ears that Jesus is here. Of course He is here! He promised it when people are gathered together in His name! He didn't need the pastor to whisper it in people's ears. But what he was wanting to happen was for people to start shaking and falling over. A number of people did just that, and one woman was writhing around the floor like a snake. I told the pastor that she needed deliverance, but I don't think he had ears to hear. However, he got to me, and when I didn't respond as expected, he spent a few more minutes trying to get a reaction out of me. I stood firm and he eventually passed by me. It was interesting because the night before I got input from the Lord to be careful about sensual stuff because these would be more from lying familiar spirits than from the Holy Spirit. I think He gave me a demonstration of that the next day. I never went back to that church. I was happy to get back to my normal Presbyterian church the next Sunday.

This reminds me of when I went to a friend's church where they were having these revivals. I went several times and watched everyone else have all those manifestations. I never felt anything or had any manifestations of any kind. Finally, during one of the times when the pastor invited people to come up to the front to receive prayer and his laying his hands on people, after which they would fall to the floor, I decided I was actually going to go up front. This was going to be my big chance to see if I would be filled with the Spirit like everyone else. When I got up front, the pastor asked me what I needed, and I said that I am saved, but feel completely empty because I've never experienced the Spirit like everyone else is. Then I think he said a prayer for me and put his hand on my head and nudged me backwards, but I kept my balance and remained upright. He nudged me a couple more times, but still nothing happened. Then he had someone else come over and pray with me while he went on to others there. I ended up being the only person still standing! I eventually turned around and went back to my seat.

Many times, I've heard people say that they didn't even believe any of those manifestations were real and thought it was all just a lot of fakery, and then went up front and got hit with the Holy Spirit. I went up front believing it could happen and was hoping it would, but it didn't. For a long time, I started doubting if I was even saved and wondering if God had rejected me for some reason. Not a very good experience.

By faith, you can do anything.
Including tearing evil from your being.
it's very hard to believe it, I know, but try to believe it.

I believed (as I mentioned in post #22) that if I took a step of faith to receive the spiritual manifestations I saw everyone else having, I would receive them. It didn't happen.

Since I've had a back problem for years (thank God that it's not bad enough to be in a wheelchair or be using crutches but still able to walk on my own and enjoy the life of most normal people), I've not much had any interest in falling or dropping to the floor, when God can minister to me just as well as when sitting in a chair.

There are times that I've gone forward to be prayed for when many others come forward and fall out on the floor, most of those times I've remained standing, without any recognition of the presence of the Lord that causes others to fall.

I only once ever did sense it to a great level. That was in my full control a gentle slow descent to a sitting position then under that continuous sense of the presence of God I just leaned sideways and in control lowered myself to the floor. I stayed there until the presence lifted. For days afterward I felt that God had done an adjustment of my body. I don't go to chiropractors.

And God has ministered to me many times, in church or at home. I've experienced the gentle sense of near drunkenness in the spirit and I've laughed in the joy of the Lord.

Instead of teeth chattering I'd prefer teeth replacing as I've got a couple missing. Instead of writhing on the floor I'd prefer a power boost of energy for each day.

I caution about the use of the words "uncontrollably" when it comes to God's presence being on a person. The Christian never loses control of their body. The Bible says that the spirit of the prophet is subject to the prophet. That being in control is concerning every aspect of expression that has to do with God.

The example of losing control in the gospels is of the boy who was possessed of the devil who caused him to fall into water or caused him to fall and injure himself.

God is not in any way like the devil. God is gentle, never forcing anything on anyone.

A Christian is not ever actually laughing uncontrollably. The use of the phrase is inexact, and misleading. They simply are so willing to yield to the recognized presence of the Lord according to their own behavior or quirks.

Hi Filmstar,
I was hunting for "chattering teeth" and came across your entry. I had never heard of this before in my experience but recently when the presence of the Lord was very heavy and my pastor's wife was speaking in tongues, I found my teeth chattering and they were chattering to the rhythm of the tongues the pastor's wife was speaking. Tonight the same thing happened as we were all waiting upon the Lord. While some use the word "uncontrollable" all the aspects of Holy Spirit are under our control and I could have easily stopped my teeth from their rhythmic "chattering" as I can stopping speaking in tongues or the laughter that I have experienced on occasion.

But it was such a joy to see your post and to see someone else has experienced this same release of the spirit. After service last night I did talk to my pastor and he just nodded and indicated "of course" he's seen that work of the Holy Spirit. tonight I was impressed of the Lord how much unity there is when He moves and how we tend to flow together often with out realizing it, since we might not always be used, filled, respond the exact same way. Our God is AWESOME full of wonder and often beyond words to express and respond to!! If you're still on this forum, thank you for sharing amidst what appears many who don't quite know the difference between a demon and the Spirit of God!! But then we were all childish at times and guilty of the same or something similar!!

God's faith accomplished what He has ordained and prepared the vessel for with His Spirit. And His desire is for us to desire Him. Manifestations that come because we seek the sign or wonder don't come out of faith in HIMSELF but in his works. Faith is the faith of Christ Jesus himself and is in Him. Sink your roots deep into the Lord Jesus, allow him to break open the wells of His spirit on the inside and His Spirit will do wondrous things as it pleases and honors him. We are called to be like Him...not imitations of Him and His Spirit works His faith and His works in you that you be in him image. Keep pressing in...He longs for you more than you long for him...how wonderful is His love for you!!! and me.

It depends on the spiritual manifestations you are talking about. If it involves falling down, teeth chattering, shaking, or anything like that, they are not under your control and they do not happen to you because of your faith. They happen when the awesome power of God comes into a meeting, no other way. They cannot be manufactured "by faith". Also, if the spiritual manifestations you see in others don't bring significant changes in their lives, and if they do the same manifestations in every meeting without that change in their lives, then I wouldn't accept those manifestations as anything other than in the flesh and not the Spirit. Genuine spiritual manifestations come as the result of Holy Spirit power in a meeting, and it changes lives, and turns unbelievers to Jesus.

Your experience in the Lord looks very genuine to me. It goes right along with the love, peace, joy, and, significantly, gentleness that are part of the fruit of the Spirit. You don't have to compare yourself with others who seem to be falling out under the "power". When the true power of the Holy Spirit comes on unbelievers, they fall on their faces before God under the conviction of sin. That is how Paul described the effects of prophecy on unbelievers who entered Early Church gatherings. People falling on their backs has no equivalent in the New Testament. Most fell on their faces. The only reference to people falling backward is where the crowd came to arrest Jesus and fell back when He identified Himself. These ones were not under conviction of sin, neither were they believers. They were evil men come to arrest Jesus with the intention of getting rid of Him. The power of Jesus' presence knocked them backward.

Therefore, most, if not all who fall over backward and have to be caught, and then get up unchanged, and then come next Sunday and do it all over again and again, are doing it in the flesh and not the Spirit. So don't worry about them. If while they were next to you and were falling down under the power of the Holy Spirit, you would have fallen down as well. If you watch Kathryn Khulman videos on Youtube, you will see that the ones who fell down when she touched them, their knees buckled under them and they sank slowly to the floor. They may have ended up on their backs but that is how those who supported them as they went down positioned them. They did not go stiff in the legs and fall backwards as if they were overbalanced (which many of the fleshly ones are).

I was ministering in a healing training conference, and prayed for a lady. She started staggering as her knees weakened, so I lowered her to a sitting position on the seat behind her. Many years ago I was praying for people in a tent meeting and started praying for a lady when she suddenly wasn't there any more. I looked down and saw that she had falling at my feet. She went straight down in a heap on the floor! I didn't believe in this "slain in the Spirit" stuff at that stage, so having someone doing it with me was a shock to me because I had my hand on her shoulder, as I do when I pray for someone, not on her head.

I think it's most important to take note of what is happening on the "inside" more than what is happening on the outside. Our flesh responds in many varieties of ways to what the Holy Spirit desires to do on the inside of us.

It is my opinion that the Spirit has very little interest in how our flesh responds to his presence, however, if when we return to our regular way of living and we're still just as mean as a junkyard dog as we were before then what he's wanting us to learn from the experience is lost in translation.

HI, I'm new here, and I just wondered if anyone shares what I experience. A few years ago I experienced the massive power of God during the Lakeland revival (even though I was in London - prayed for by Nicky Gumble at HTB church on the Day of Pentecost). I was pinned to the floor, but my Spirit was being pulled up towards a light - my whole body trembling and surging with power. After this I was overflowing with the Spirit and prophecying whilst almost floating around the room praying for people and hugging people, completely overflowing. Ever since then, now, when I'm worshipping and filled with the Spirit my teeth chatter uncontrollably. I also then start to laugh uncontrollably. Does anyone one else get this? I'm wondering if it's specifically linked to revival.

I prayed with extra chutzpah beginning back in 1990 and I did have several night were I shook and vibrated a lot.

My wife is very gifted and I have often seen her laughing uncontrollably and it is amazing how often her dreams come to pass.

Is this something which is bothering you, you are uncertain about, or do you look forward to it happening?

peace,
Simon

When you lose control that is you, not the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 14:29-33 J.B. Phillips New Testament (PHILLIPS)
29-33 Don’t have more than two or three preachers either, while the others think over what has been said. But should a message of truth come to one who is seated, then the original speaker should stop talking. For in this way you can all have opportunity to give a message, one after the other, and everyone will learn something and everyone will have his faith stimulated. The spirit of a true preacher is under that preacher’s control, for God is not a God of disorder but of harmony, as is plain in all the churches.

1 Corinthians 14:29-32 Expanded Bible (EXB)
29 Only two or three prophets should speak, and the others should ·judge [evaluate; consider; weigh] what they say. 30 If a ·message from God [L revelation] comes to another person who is sitting, the first speaker should stop. 31 [L For] You can all prophesy one after the other. In this way all the people can be taught and encouraged. 32 The spirits of prophets are ·under the control of [subject to] the prophets themselves [C unlike in pagan religions, where a spirit would seize control of a speaker, causing frenzy, mania or ecstasy].

1 Corinthians 14:29-32 Good News Translation (GNT)
29 Two or three who are given God's message should speak, while the others are to judge what they say. 30 But if someone sitting in the meeting receives a message from God, the one who is speaking should stop. 31 All of you may proclaim God's message, one by one, so that everyone will learn and be encouraged. 32 The gift of proclaiming God's message should be under the speaker's control,

1 Corinthians 14:29-32 Revised Standard Version (RSV)
29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said. 30 If a revelation is made to another sitting by, let the first be silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged; 32 and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets.

Blessed are they that have experienced teeth chattering and have believed; but more blessed are they that have had no such manifestations and have believed....

Please show from the early church using the Church Fathers giving quotes with links to the primary source of those church fathers with links to newadvent.org so, context can be checked.

Simon Peter, no it doesn't bother me at all. I feel blessed - I know God is with me in power. It is definitely the Holy Spirit and not demonic, because afterwards comes the uncontrollable laughter (alright all laughter is uncontrollable or it would be false!) which comes from gratefulness, sheer thankfulness and joy for my salvation, and then when I am filled with the Spirit I speak in tongues and prophecy. It seems to coincide with Joel / Acts when the Lord says 'In the last days I will pour out my Spirit on all people and men and women will prophesy.' I just wondered if the teeth chattering had happened during other revivals, or if anyone else has experienced it at or since the Lakeland revival.

I do not see any correspondence at all friend.

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son Galatians 4:4 — the God, of course, who is the Lord of that very succession of times which constitutes an age; who also ordained, as signs of time, suns and moons and constellations and stars; who furthermore both predetermined and predicted that the revelation of His Son should be postponed to the end of the times. It shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain (of the house) of the Lord shall be manifested; and in the last days I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh as Joel says. It was characteristic of Him (only) to wait patiently for the fullness of time, to whom belonged the end of time no less than the beginning. But as for that idle god, who has neither any work nor any prophecy, nor accordingly any time, to show for himself, what has he ever done to bring about the fullness of time, or to wait patiently its completion? If nothing, what an impotent state to have to wait for the Creator's time, in servility to the Creator! But for what end did He send His Son? To redeem them that were under the law, Galatians 4:5 in other words, to make the crooked ways straight, and the rough places smooth, as Isaiah says Isaiah 40:4 — in order that old things might pass away, and a new course begin, even the new law out of Zion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem, Isaiah 2:3 and that we might receive the adoption of sons, Galatians 4:5 that is, the Gentiles, who once were not sons. For He is to be the light of the Gentiles, and in His name shall the Gentiles trust. Isaiah 42:4, 6 That we may have, therefore the assurance that we are the children of God, He has sent forth His Spirit into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Galatians 4:6 For in the last days, says He, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh.

Now, from whom comes this grace, but from Him who proclaimed the promise thereof? Who is (our) Father, but He who is also our Maker? Therefore, after such affluence (of grace), they should not have returned to weak and beggarly elements. Galatians 4:9 By the Romans, however, the rudiments of learning are wont to be called elements. He did not therefore seek, by any depreciation of the mundane elements, to turn them away from their god, although, when he said just before, Howbeit, then, you serve them which by nature are no gods, Galatians 4:8 he censured the error of that physical or natural superstition which holds the elements to be god; but at the God of those elements he aimed not in this censure. He tells us himself clearly enough what he means by elements, even the rudiments of the law: You observe days, and months, and times, and years Galatians 4:10 — the sabbaths, I suppose, and the preparations, and the fasts, and the high days. For the cessation of even these, no less than of circumcision, was appointed by the Creator's decrees, who had said by Isaiah, Your new moons, and your sabbaths, and your high days I cannot bear; your fasting, and feasts, and ceremonies my soul hates; Isaiah 1:13-14 also by Amos, I hate, I despise your feast-days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies; Amos 5:21 and again by Hosea, I will cause to cease all her mirth, and her feast-days, and her sabbaths, and her new moons, and all her solemn assemblies. 1. The Apostle Peter, therefore, after the resurrection of the Lord, and His assumption into the heavens, being desirous of filling up the number of the twelve apostles, and in electing into the place of Judas any substitute who should be chosen by God, thus addressed those who were present: Men [and] brethren, this Scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost, by the mouth of David, spoke before concerning Judas, which was made guide to them that took Jesus. For he was numbered with us: Acts 1:16, etc. ... Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein; and, His bishoprick let another take; — thus leading to the completion of the apostles, according to the words spoken by David. Again, when the Holy Ghost had descended upon the disciples, that they all might prophesy and speak with tongues, and some mocked them, as if drunken with new wine, Peter said that they were not drunken, for it was the third hour of the day; but that this was what had been spoken by the prophet: It shall come to pass in the last days, says God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh, and they shall prophesy. Joel 2:28 The God, therefore, who did promise by the prophet, that He would send His Spirit upon the whole human race, was He who did send; and God Himself is announced by Peter as having fulfilled His own promise.

So Christ also, willing to mitigate their wrath, said, By whom do your sons cast out devils? Matthew 12:27 He did not say, My disciples; for indeed it seemed a flattering mode of expression. And so Peter also did not say, 'They are not drunk, but speak by the Spirit.' but he takes refuge with the prophet, and under shelter of him, so speaks. As for the accusation [of drunkenness], he cleared himself of that by his own assertion; but for the grace, he fetches the prophet as witness. I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh. [And your sons, etc.] To some the grace was imparted through dreams, to others it was openly poured forth. For indeed by dreams the prophets saw, and received revelations.

Then he goes on with the prophecy, which has in it also something terrible. And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs [in the earth beneath]. Acts 2:19 In these words he speaks both of the judgment to come, and of the taking of Jerusalem. Blood and fire, and vapor of smoke. Observe how he describes the capture. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood. Acts 2:20 This results from the (διαθέσεως) internal affection of the sufferers. It is said, indeed, that many such phenomena actually did occur in the sky, as Josephus attests.

CHURCH FATHERS: Letter 41 (Jerome)

If ancient illustrations of faith which both testify to God's grace and tend to man's edification are collected in writing, so that by the perusal of them, as if by the reproduction of the facts, as well God may be honoured, as man may be strengthened; why should not new instances be also collected, that shall be equally suitable for both purposes — if only on the ground that these modern examples will one day become ancient and available for posterity, although in their present time they are esteemed of less authority, by reason of the presumed veneration for antiquity? But let men look to it, if they judge the power of the Holy Spirit to be one, according to the times and seasons; since some things of later date must be esteemed of more account as being nearer to the very last times, in accordance with the exuberance of grace manifested to the final periods determined for the world. For in the last days, says the Lord, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh; and their sons and their daughters shall prophesy. And upon my servants and my handmaidens will I pour out of my Spirit; and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. And thus we — who both acknowledge and reverence, even as we do the prophecies, modern visions as equally promised to us, and consider the other powers of the Holy Spirit as an agency of the Church for which also He was sent, administering all gifts in all, even as the Lord distributed to every one as well needfully collect them in writing, as commemorate them in reading to God's glory; that so no weakness or despondency of faith may suppose that the divine grace abode only among the ancients, whether in respect of the condescension that raised up martyrs, or that gave revelations; since God always carries into effect what He has promised, for a testimony to unbelievers, to believers for a benefit. And we therefore, what we have heard and handled, declare also to you, brethren and little children, that as well you who were concerned in these matters may be reminded of them again to the glory of the Lord, as that you who know them by report may have communion with the blessed martyrs, and through them with the Lord Jesus Christ, to whom be glory and honour, for ever and ever. Amen.
