Salvation in itself is very easy....

8 ....The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. - Romans 10:8-10

From there one must grow his faith.

Turning away from sin, which I am taking steps towards. But it is also feeling sorrowful for sin. I feel fearful that my sin is leading me to hell. But I don't feel sorrowful like I should.

When the Bible speaks of God choosing or electing people it is not speaking of a random choosing, but a conditional choosing which anyone can obtain by properly relating to and believing on His Chosen/Elect King, Jesus Christ (who gave Himself a ransom for all- 1 Timothy 2:6). God chooses and we don't in that God sets the terms for being His, not us. Salvation by works in the sense the Bible condemns is people seeking to work around God's terms of justification; not in cooperation with His terms.

So with that said, the answer to your question is YES! It is proper to pray for God to grant you true repentance- but you must also cooperate with that prayer and renounce everything that displeases Him according to your present knowledge, diligently seek to do everything you know He requires, study your Bible continually for further instruction in how you ought to worship and serve Him acceptably- and thus walk in the light you receive in order to grow in grace and in the knowledge of Him (2 Peter 3:18). Do this until the end and the Bible says God will claim you as His own on Judgment Day, grant that you might partake of Christ's redemption on the cross, and be allowed into the gates of heaven as one who inherits His eternal kingdom as His faithful, redeemed subject.

John 3:34-36: "34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. 35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."

Hebrews 5:7-10: "7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; 8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
10 Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec."

James 1:12 "Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him."

If you’re asking then it’s already done. No one comes to God but by Him Drawing them first and that in itself is repentance because you are turning towards God.

From there one must grow his faith.

I am white, with tough luck going in, of Scottish descent, and at one time a very negative guy. In the 1990's our factory hired several VT football players who were all black and of Word of Faith doctrine. In all my years of knowing these guys I have never once heard the first negative word out of their mouth, everything they spoke was faith. They called me, "McCwowt" and would say things like...

"Do you know what over comes fear McCwowt? Action! Action overcomes fear"

"I'm getting out of here McCwowt" And then lay out some plan of escape. They would also come to me saying...

"What are you believing God for McCwowt?" And expect some great plan that would bring joy to their hearts.

They were also very schooled in the Word of Faith. If you had any pains at all they would offer to pray for you right then and there. They also broke me of my negative talk and for that I am eternally grateful. There is another thing they use to say...

"Good fellowship makes you strong."

I have put together a web site that has done over 2 million views and in some instances have refereed to these guys positive input....

If you don't feel as sorrowful as you think you should, then it seems you don't quite grasp the weight of your sin yet...

It isn't just a bad thing you did that hurts yourself or maybe others. It's a sin against God himself - an act of rebellion against the order He created. It's an act of rebellion that caused an innocent person to die - Jesus (God as a man). In fact, that's even worse! Your sin not only killed a 100% innocent person, but God Himself, your Maker, had to die to make amends for what you did. He had to break His own logic - the very fabric of the universe - to make things right again because you - a tiny little rebellious dust mite, were bold enough to decide you knew what's best and He didn't.

HOW.
DARE.
YOU?!!?

Does that put it in perspective? ^_^

Did the apostle Paul have true repentence? Paul spoke of wanting to stop sinning but his flesh. I have one Law in His and another Law in his flesh. Why did Paul write about how sinful he was and how he fought this battle against his own flesh . For the reason you might find that peace that surpasses all understanding? Because each of us goes this same battle and Satan standing telling you you not saved and so on. Paul would have those same attacks. Paul need to find and be in relationship with two other believers because a cord of three is not easily broken. Btw when Satan tells your not worthy just smile and say to the Lord that Satan is absolutely right we are not worthy. But your Husband knew you before He formed in the womb, as He did all of us, and He still went to the cross for us. You are loved

Every word Satan speaks to is in his “native tongue” the lie. If you are feeling fear the Lord did not give us a spirit of fear. If you are feeling condemnation it is not from our blessed Lord.

Lord you came in the flesh born a Man not just to save us. You also came so when you became the Great High Priest you got know exactly the struggle go through. He loves you and He has a Wedding Supper of the Lamb He can’t wait to begin the festivities He’s got all of us at the top of the guest list. He has prepared a table for us In the presence of our enemies. What He prepared and Is preparing for us here in this world. Evevrything He has ever done is with the promise you are His. All God’s people Struggle in some way and I know it is intense. Consider this if you would. Nothing in this world He does and always does the has not been done for you and He has sent you the Holy Spirit to testify you belong to Him. One last thought, I promise the table is where we come to eat the spiritual food we eat. Man does not live on bread alone but on every word of God. We need to feast on His Word daily. Then I remember my favorite verse at these times Be still and Know He is God.”

Go ahead and grab a seat He is waiting for you and the Bride And Groom May enjoy their most unique relationship there has ever been we are engaged to the Living God even at the Time of Stephen the door to the unseen opened for a moment. And our Husband standing at the ready to return He can’t wait to get back here to, “Even so Lord Jesus come.” My prayers include you. god bless

I think God chose everyone, but not everyone choses Him. The Bible says that God loved the world so much that He gave His son so that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life and never die.

If you are awake enough to know God calls, it means you have probably been called for a while but haven't really noticed.

I learned a long time ago that the Kingdom of Heaven is not about feelings, so even thought you don't feel chosen or loved, you have to stand in your faith that you are. I also keep in mind that what saves me is my faith in Jesus not my works, so I focus on learning who He is, because once I find Him, I find myself.

This is good. He who comes to God must believe that He is there and He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Also the Scripture says that if we seek Him with all our hearts, we will find Him.

Salvation in itself is very easy....

8 ....The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

Salvation is not as easy as you think. Jesus said that the way to eternal life is narrow and few there be who find it. Yes, it is easy to walk up to the front of a church and say a prayer, and believe the Scriptures you have quoted. Even the devil and his demons believe those Scriptures. Easy believerism is just the act of getting religion and putting on a Christian badge, without one's heart being changed.

Thousands upon thousands made decisions for Christ in Billy Graham crusades around the world, but very very few of those converts ever went and bonded into a church, and so there is no assurance that the majority of the ones who went forward got actually saved.

There is a Scriptural progression for salvation:
1. The person needs to be measured up against God's moral Law, and see himself as totally failing to keep it. The purpose of the Law is to show us how sinful we are, and that we are guilty according to the Law and subject to the penalty of God's eternal wrath and hell. That is the bad news. Unless we know the bad news, we won't really appreciate the good news.

Too many make decisions for Christ without knowing the terrifying state they are in and that they desperately need Christ to be their Saviour. This is the difference between genuine Christianity and churchianity. I have a background in the Pentecostal movement and I have seen many join up for the goodies, goosebumps up the spine, miracles, guaranteed healing, prosperity and the prospect of meeting an attractive prospective wife. Just imagine the rude and terrifying shock that many of these will get when they find that they have risen from the grave in the wrong resurrection, and they are resurrected to face the Judgment, instead of the rewards that Christ will give to His faithful servants.

This is the honest and true gospel.

This is why the way to eternal life is narrow, because relatively few come to Christ through having been convicted of their absolute sinfulness and have come to Christ with all their hearts to be rescued from the terrifying prospect of hell. They know they have to flee from the wrath to come and to take hold of Christ and not let Him go until He blesses them with saving faith.

That fear is good, because you have realised through your awareness of the Law, you have come short of God's standards, which brings the eternal penalty. In your state, the gospel is good news, because you have received the bad news about yourself.

"Knowing the terror of the Lord, we persuade men" (2 Corinthians 5:11). And, "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God" (Hebrews 10:31). It is this fear that drives us to Christ in faith, because the Law has shown us our sinfulness and the consequences of it. We cry out for mercy and grace from God, and obey the Scripture, "Come boldly to God's throne of grace that you may find mercy, and grace to help in your time of need" (Hebrews 4:16).
"By grace you are saved through faith, and not of yourself, but it is the gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9)/

Well, those whom God chooses he draws to himself. If you desire God to grant you true repentance with the right heart, it is not apart from his own divine intervention.

God doesn't choose you or else he would be choosing people to do sin which means he would be the author of sin himself.

Just like Jews were blamed for crucifixion of Christ and not the soldiers who just followed orders. If God choose not not help you then it would be on him.

It's the other way around , he died for all so he has no blame and can't be blamed and did his part which is providing escape from sin. You choose if you want or not.

How to choose is simply believe that Christ died for sins as the promised messiah fullfilling prophecy spoken of him so we know who he was , and then rise from the grave third day that's all.

Salvation is not of works or keeping law and can't be lost either.

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 , Galatians 2:16 , Ephesians 2:8-9, Ephesians 1:13-14

ajcarey understands the doctrine of the elect well. It's not a literal interpretation so don't let it dissuade you, use it yourself to make yourself feel unworthy and called back to sin or let Satan use it in the many ways he can. Your fighting your fallen human nature right now. Salvation isn't going to do all the work for you as many would like you to believe. Others will want you to think that you'll immediately start loving God, be filled with faith and obedience but that's not true either. For some it is. God reveals himself differently to different people.
You understand the importance of doing this. It's the fate of your soul and the world cries out to distract you from it. You also understand the importance of earnestness and that is good. Cling to what you know for now and seek out prayer and help wherever you can. I believe God creates windows for us in life to return to him and they are few. And I promise you promise you promise you that as you get older it becomes much much harder to change. Our hearts become hard and disbelieving that God can work miracles within us. God has declared that "My Spirit shall not always plead with man, for he is indeed flesh;-Genesis 6:3.
I advise you to pray for whatever you need and pray somewhere with no distractions. Pray at length, not repetitiously but earnestly, as a child before a parent. Try to have faith also. I know you may feel cynical about your position right now but try hard to have it. I don't know what your life has been like up until this point but if you feel some specific sin is keeping you from God then deal with it seriously. That's what Jesus meant when he said "And if your eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell." I was struggling with inappropriate contentography and when God moved upon me I was so fearful of what he implied that I disconnected my internet, threw out most of my movies and prayed constantly in fear and reverence. I asked every Christian I could think of to pray for me and though it felt like I was fighting my own heart I continued, understanding that only complete repentance was going to call ME to stop this. That I hadn't been in habitual sin but idolatry and was almost lost to God because of it. I hope my words helped. I'm borrowing someone's internet to type this but I will pray for you Jesse.
