Truly? As revealed in Holy Scriptures? And how does that make them "fellow believers?" When we as Christians speak of believers we mean those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. They believe in the God of Abraham.
Is that all that God calls us to do?Matthew 28: NASB
18And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Many see the Jews as fellow believers.Truly? As revealed in Holy Scriptures? And how does that make them "fellow believers?" When we as Christians speak of believers we mean those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
Of course not:Is that all that God calls us to do?
Many see the Jews as fellow believers.
And, keep going....Of course not:
Luke 24: NASB
44Now He said to them, “These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46and He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, 47and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48“You are witnesses of these things. 49“And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
Are Jews believers in the God of Abraham?Jesus does make a distinction:
Mark 12: NASB
24Jesus said to them, “Is this not the reason you are mistaken, that you do not understand the Scriptures or the power of God? 25“For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 26“But regarding the fact that the dead rise again, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the burning bush, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I AM THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, and the God of Jacob’? 27“He is not the God of the dead, but of the living; you are greatly mistaken.”
There is now a long tradition of asking pope Francis to explain himself. Unhappily there isn't much of a tradition of pope Francis actually explaining himself. What he said appears to be very unwise, and contrary to the faith, and pope Francis should explain that he spoke poorly.I'm sure he is quite familiar with Vatican II canons. I think that is why he is adamant the Pope should clarify the purpose of the new High council and language of the document.
His speech to the joint session of Congress a few years ago did not. Not at all. I checked. You did not see the Gospel at all mentioned nor Jesus Christ mentioned. This Pope has a penchant to avoid mentioning Jesus Christ in official documents.
There SHOULD be reconciliation and fellowship between all believers and all of humanity, but it should be reconciliation and fraternity IN Christ. That's where the true reconciliation and fraternity come from. How would a Roman Catholic respond to the following from the document:
this Declaration may constitute an invitation to reconciliation and fraternity among all believers, indeed among believers and non-believers, and among all people of good will;
What is meant by the signers of the document by "among all believers"?
Sort of. Are the Jews not fellow believers? Sort of?So the Muslims are fellow believers?
Maybe I will send Pope Francis a Bible or two. And, keep going....
In the Divine Logos as revealed? I would say no.Sort of. Are the Jews not fellow believers? Sort of?
Most certainly, Jews are indeed believers in the God of Abraham. Many Christians seem to forget that Jesus lived the life of a practicing Orthodox Jew. He rarely broke with Orthodox Judaism. I can only think of three instances: (1) "The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath" and this was not a complete rejection of the Sabbath rest. (2) The woman caught in adultery case and here again, he did not completely break with the Torah teaching on adultery. (3) Divorce and remarriage is where he did make a definite break with the law of Moses. As I recall, Pope John Paul II referred to the Jews as "our elder brothers in the faith".Are Jews believers in the God of Abraham?
He loves Bibles so send them away. He can underline the parts that you need to read to find out what God calls us to do.Maybe I will send Pope Francis a Bible or two.
I already posted what God calls us to do.He loves Bibles so send them away. He can underline the parts that you need to read to find out what God calls us to do.
Vatican 2 is not necessarily always authoritative.Perhaps the bishop is not familiar with the document, Nostra Aetate? Last time I checked, it was from Vatican II, which has the status of an ecumenical council.
