I just can't go to Monday Mass anymore. Prayers please.

Thanks Michie. I had a doctor's appointment, so that's keeping me busy. I think it'll take a while to get used to not going, but getting this off my chest has helped tremendously. I really appreciate being able to do that here. Thanks all!

Why're you going to mass on mondays to begin with, is there any reason in particular?
The reason I'm asking is because as I'm sure you already know, there's no mass obligation for weekdays.

(If you dont mind me asking that is )

Anytime Chrystal! Sometimes it helps to unload our burdens and this certainly sounded like a very uncomfortable situation.

Chrystal can correct me if I'm wrong but I think she has mentioned before she attends daily Mass.

Yes, I used to go to daily Mass. I would go on Monday, Tuesday and sometimes Friday (along with Saturday and Sunday). But, Tuesday and Friday was with the same priest I mentioned above. So, over time, I quit going on Tuesday and Friday when it became unbearable. I kept going to Monday Mass because it was shorter and I thought I could handle the priest for a short period of time. But, I'm just over it--I can't deal with his attitude. Talking to everyone here made me realize that the ball is in his court and if he doesn't want to change, there's nothing I can do.

You are absolutely right Chrystal. Maybe God will lead you elsewhere on those days or have something else in mind.

It's a shame but theres a great deal of power attached to being a priest which could attract some mentally disturbed people to enter the priesthood. Or some orginally decent human beings develop a rather dysfunctional behavior pattern as they grow old in their position.

I hope and pray things get sorted out in your parish. God bless.

seminarians have to pass a mental and physical exam, right?

but this thread brings up a good point-what about ongoing checks for mental wellness?

and as a requirement too.

He may not be able to leave due to a shortage of priests, but then maybe he may be required to undergo some type of treatment such as learning to manage better when angry, seeing the good in others, etc, through pastoral counseling for himself.

Why is the exam only done at the beginning, if this is for life?!

I do not know if they have annual evaluations but they really should.

The reason he snatched the bible out of the nun's hand is because she said he needed therapy. He would be a lot happier if he got therapy, as well as the people around him.

Well it is neglectful of your bishop not to send him to therapy. He is supposed to be a shepherd protecting the flock. It sounds like he could snap.

I don't understand why his bishop won't intervene because there have been reports regarding his temper. I'm just going to keep this priest on my prayer list.

I would do that and maybe talk with others and start a signed petition to get him help and send to your bishop? It is not like all of you are wishing ill will upon him but trying to get him the help he desperately needs while protecting those he comes into contact with. Laity are not the clergy's punching bags in whatever way they decide to throw the punch. They are supposed to be shepherds we trust and edify us in our journey of faith.

Most of the people go to Mass at that church on Sundays, they don't see his dark side. They only see him once in a while. It's just a handful of us that go daily. And those people don't usually talk about him at all. They just sit through Mass and leave. I just don't see them wanting to do anything about his temper.

That's unfortunate. I hope he gets the help he needs.
