It is simply a matter of another declaration of emergency, ordering, for national security reasons, for companies not to purchase certain products from China. Perhaps, this would be restricted to future contracts.

If there is a list, I think the courts would let this stand, as would Congress.

If it all products, the legal argument is a bit different. I still see it going through.

Of course he does.

OK

Please explain why the government shouldn't require all packages entering there country to be checked for Fentynyl.

"Also, I am ordering all carriers, including Fed Ex, Amazon, UPS and the Post Office, to SEARCH FOR & REFUSE,........all deliveries of Fentanyl from China (or anywhere else!). "

What?

Therefore he is not getting along very well with China, since we have an ongoing trade war (that he started) and no end in sight.

Good for him...China should have been dealt with a long time ago...and patience is a virtue.

Trump's trade agenda on the verge of imploding

President Donald Trump is heading toward his 2020 reelection campaign with virtually nothing to show for his big trade promises — except for angry farmers and a jittery stock market.

A long-sought deal with China appears to be falling apart, exposing businesses on both sides of the Pacific to more tariffs and steep losses for farmers. His new pact with Canada and Mexico is facing significant opposition in Congress even from Republicans, who are demanding that he lift steel and aluminum tariffs before they’ll vote on it. Deals with the European Union, Japan and Great Britain are also stalled by politics here and abroad.

Trump’s failure to reach agreements with America’s trading partners could have a brutal impact on the economy and his reelection effort, even if his base likes his tough talk on China. By the time voters head to the polls in 2020, the prices of consumer goods could be skyrocketing. Farmers may be swamped with products they can’t sell abroad. And a bear market could be shrinking everyone’s retirement savings.

I wonder if folks realize that the importer is the one who pays the duty, then passes off the cost to the consumer. So GM orders parts they need from China, then has to pay the duty, and they pass the cost of that duty onto the consumer.

No-one who likes his steaks overdone should be trusted.

So, you point is that EVERY package that the carriers deliver is being inspected?

If not, Trump's request stands. The issue is NOT really who makes the inspections. The issue is that every package be inspected for drugs.

Customs checks this stuff, not carriers. This is pretty common knowledge.

Ah so we have devolved to the point where the President can do whatever he wants so long as he declares a national emergency?

Only when a republican is in office, obviously. Whenever the office is held by a democrat again this will of course be tyranny.

He ordered the carriers to do it, not customs. Why defend this idiocy?

It's tyranny either way, and I doubt the President has what it takes to pull it off.

In the case of the postal service he ordered them to violate the fourth amendment in doing so.

At a breakfast meeting with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Trump said “yeah” when a reporter asked if he was having second thoughts about how the trade conflict with China has escalated.

“I have second thoughts about everything,” he said.

White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham later issued a statement seeking to clarify Trump's comments and suggesting the only thing he regrets is not placing higher tariffs on Chinese goods.

“This morning in the (meeting) with the UK, the president was asked if he had ‘any second thought on escalating the trade war with China,'" Grisham said in a statement. "His answer has been greatly misinterpreted. President Trump responded in the affirmative — because he regrets not raising the tariffs higher.”

Everything means anything. We have always been at war with Eastasia.

There is a law with regard to national emergency. And, yes, the Congress gave the president great powers under this law. Congress can vote to refuse, but they won't.

So, yes, the president an do almost anything, with the approval of Congress (or with Congress not objecting). That is our system.

This is what is called an abuse of our system. Congress never intended to give the President national emergency powers to dictate corporate activity like this.

Those who are OK with rampant and unchecked abuses of power are now simply showing their true colors.

As I said, I don't think the President has what it takes, if companies should say, simply refuse to comply.

???

When Obama called his national emergencies, it was tyranny. When Obama issued his many, many executive orders, it was a terrible play for power, and absolutely dictatorial. When Obama deported so many, immigrant groups were up in arms.
