Electing a genuine reformer is a bit of a rarity in the last several Presidential elections. President Trump is one. President Carter was another. But I'm at a loss to think of one in the 20th century prior to President Carter.

In Carter's case, he took on the DC establishment... and they wiped the floor with him. And then a phony baloney reformer wiped the floor with Carter in the 1980 election.

President Trump has been a bit more successful with the DC establishment. It hasn't been an utter victory for him but neither has it been one for the establishment either. They've taken no shortage of losses of different kinds.

I understand why establishment Republicans oppose President Trump. It's completely logical. But even now, I'm astounded that the anti-establishment left has vilified President Trump as well. I have to wonder if they realize they're foot soldiers for the establishment. If they do realize it, they seem quite comfortable with it.

Exactly, President Trump is a reformer and it stands to reason that the DC establishment is trying to undermine him however they can. It's pretty logical.

Crimes? I don't think you completely understand. President Trump is a reformer and that's the main reason why the establishments of both parties are variously arrayed against him.

The really surprising part (for me anyway) is that the more progressive wing of the Democrat Party isn't at least somewhat friendly to President Trump because he's just as much an outsider as they are. It's pretty surprising, tbh.

The article was written in 2016. Hardly new.

In any case, the question was why progressives haven't fallen for the scam and therefore friendlier towards Trump. The article helps to explain why.

Doesn't surprise me, they can't see past the 'more progressive wing of the Democrat Party' part. I do think more mainstream Dems will vote for Trump this election, or stay home.

I work in a pretty liberal office. None of that woke stuff. These are like 1990s Sierra Club liberals.

They’re all voting for President Trump because there’s really nobody else for them to vote for. Their words, not mine.

Rational thinking wins over feelings -sometimes. Now there are do or die Dems that are consumed with hatred that just won't budge. But Trump is turning many. They all have to ask these questions when they go to vote, "Has my life been better in in the last four years? Is the economy better? Are we safe? Are we heading in the right direction? Or whatever is important to that person, one must be logical and not emotional about this decision. Or shall I get behind people like AOC, Bernie, Bieden, Warren ... And start marching along with ANTIFA?

Our country went through similar reactions, albeit different circumstances, during the Great Depression. Many displayed confused, bizarre-like behaviors then, including openly calling for communism. Fortunately, we had enough real Americans to turn it around, despite the hardships, before that mentality took root nation-wide. I don’t know now; the last time I was at the polls I thought I was in a foreign country.
