Jesus was violent one time in the Bible and it was against Capitalists who were seeking to profit on sales of religious paraphernalia.

What does this say for Trump's "Spiritual Advisors" who are all money-changers in the church business?

Certainly what they were doing was legal by both the Roman and Jewish (Pharisaical) leadership. Certainly what money-changers today do is legal by US law. But Jesus was very clear about how He felt about it.

This is the trouble our country is in.

The Pharisees weren't in charge of the Temple, the Sadducees were.

Calling money changers "capitalists" is a stretch. Jesus also said to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and unto God what is God's. Money is not the root of all evil. But the love it is.

Well, I don’t know what it says about Trump, but it says a lot about your misunderstanding of scripture.

Jesus didn't go after bread peddlers or fruit vendors. Jesus went after money changers and those who sold sacrifices. They were cheating people on the rate of exchange, because this was over sacrifices God took it personally.

This was the time of the Holy Convocation so Jews came from all over the world. People were being ripped off on an epic scale but no one dared challenge the status quo, no one except this prophet some called Son of David.

It was the Liberal Sadducees indeed who were in charge of the Temple in Jesus' time. And Jesus didn't chastise the merchants there because they were Capitalists, but because they were doing business that was unlawful before God by making merchandise out of holy things and doing so in the very place set apart for God's worship. There were many other Capitalists in Jerusalem at the time, but Jesus didn't contend with them, only the ones profaning God's Temple- and the Temple was also the place where Jesus had jurisdiction since it was His Father's own House.

You really can't pin down the Jewish movements of that time to liberal or conservative. It doesn't make any sense. They also weren't making merchandise out of holy things, but selling sacrifices for the Temple. The issue was that they were not charging fair prices.

For anybody interested, the practices were reformed somewhere around 50 C.E. and it got better for the poor. It took a while because powerful Romans were making money off it and it's never easy to go against entrenched powers. Until about 70 when, well, the Temple was destroyed.

That wasn't the reason ... the reason was because "trade/secular" business transactions were being conducted in the temple ... and the temple was solely to be used for prayer and worship. It wasn't the what (conducting commerce) that was the problem it was WHERE they were conducting it that He had a problem with.

The setup of the Temple included an area for the sale of sacrifices to people. Goats, birds, even flour would have been sold to people. It was a specific area setup in what is a pretty large facility overall. The problem was not the sale of sacrifices. That was necessary. The problem was people overcharging.

Yet Mary of Magdala, one of Jesus' most devoted followers, raised sacrificial doves as a business.

She didn't raise the doves in the temple.

Commerce being conducted IN the temple was the problem.

You do realize that there were multiple courtyards in the Temple grounds, right? One of these was setup for the sale of sacrifices and had been set up that way since the Temple had been rebuilt.

There’s nothing uncapitalist about any of this. Try buying food at Disney World or beer at a concert.

It's about whether Jesus thought that capitalism is the only acceptable economic system, I think. And since those who believe that He did constitute a major faction on the American political scene...

Well, I'll admit it's a stretch. :)

Jesus ran the profiteers out of the Temple, not the markets. The Temple with its sacrificial system was big business for the Pharisees and others.

Obama just bought a $15,000,000 house (on the beach) just a few years after leaving office. Government is profitable for lots of people. And so much for the rising oceans stuff.

People generally aren't required by their religion to visit Disney World and buy food.

People are required to eat. Exploiting the other party’s lack of bargaining power is typical- arguably even a fundamental part - of capitalism.
