Sacrifice isn't what Jesus wants but to love one another in actions and in Truth.

1 John 3:16-18
John 14:12
Thanks for your reply. I would say that truly loving one another in actions requires personal sacrifice.

In comparison to what He gave
not much on my end.

Little good works
that add up to nothing.

Your good works
are as filthy rags.

M-Bob

Perhaps, you're simply lost in the context.

Consider this saying:

Matthew 25:40
"The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'

So what if we did nothing for them??

1 John 3:16-18
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

Well we gave up our business, our home, our extended families, friends, all of our belongings and lost some precious pets. He called us to walk by faith through destitution, hunger and homelessness for 40 months with 82 moves over 3 provinces. We have slept in the woods, sidewalks, snowbanks, garages, churches, tents, shelter, motels and rarely, in houses. At some points we came close to death from hypothermia, attacks by drug crazed loonies, and survived verbal assaults by pastors and Christians. Through all of this Jesus was calling us to live by faith and trust Him for our daily provision, which we did. Our faith in hope in Him endured many meltdowns and crises. Each day we called out in faith and He provided what we needed. Jesus led us continually and with His perfect timing we made it through. All four of us with our remaining bird and dog survived.

For the faith and wisdom we received, the spiritual maturity and intimacy with Jesus and all the other benefits that come from faith it was definitely worth the sacrifice. We haven't not given up anything of real value and have gained way more in eternal value.

Blessings,
Homer Les

Probably most experiences with Jesus involve following Him thru things that we wouldn’t pay a pennie to go thru again but the gaining of that experience is priceless. :0)

I sacrificed my family. My family are all non christians.
When I get to heaven, I probably won't see them.
I can actually think of a couple of cases in the NT that suggest they may have a second chance in the next life, perhaps within the nations? What do others think about the verses of the prayers of the righteous? or the commendation to the unfaithful steward?

We are also to be living sacrifices

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

Jesus died a horrific and painful death for you. Is responding to that death works or basic courtesy? What have you sacrificed for Him and how did it turn out?

Guilt and/or obligation are poor substitutes for love as a motive for walking with God. Neither motive fulfills the First and Great Commandment. (Matthew 22:36-38) What's more, Paul rules out anything but love as a motive for what we say, think and do as Christians (1 Corinthians 13:1-3). The believer's response to Christ's atoning sacrifice should be love and joy, not burdensome guilt and obligation. See also 1 John 4:16-19.

You are quite right, however sometimes this can be used as an excuse along the lines of we are justified by faith, therefore I should not and will not do any works at all as that would be to try to justify myself.
