Oh, I'm talking about college / olympic conventional wrestling.

.
Same. I would like to give it a go but it's popular in the areas surrounding my city, not within. Travel would be a problem atm.

In fact the modern wrestling styles or rules are derived from Lancashire wrestling in North West England. Obviously wrestling is ancient but many sport rules began here.

Hi, are there many Christians here who participate in combat sports? Sports like:
Boxing, Judo, MMA, Kickboxing and Muay Thai etc. (Long post) I'll write a "too long, didn't read" paragraph at the bottom.

I am not asking whether these sports are allowed or good as a Christian. Mainly, I would like a discussion about whether they're the best use of time as a Christian.

To explain, I'm ready to commit to training now however I have become a stronger Christian as I continue to learn. This helps me in many ways except the thought that I should be spending my time becoming stronger spiritually rather than physically etc. I cannot remember the verse about why spiritual battles are more important than carnal/physical, but it's in the Bible. This also applies to how we spend our time e.g. training a martial art or combat sport.

1 Timothy 4:7-8
7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise yourself rather unto godliness.
8 For bodily exercise profits little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

Jeremiah 17:5
Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the Lord.

Psalms 33:16
No king is saved by the multitude of an army; A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.
