Jeremiah 29:8

There are tests for a prophet. The key to your text is practice magic.


2 Kings 17:17
They sacrificed their sons and daughters in the fire. They used magic and witchcraft to try to learn the future. They sold themselves to do what the Lord said was evil. They did this to make him angry.

Isaiah 44:25 False prophets tell lies, but the Lord shows that their lies are false. He makes fools of those who do magic. He confuses even the wise. They think they know a lot, but he makes them look foolish.

Daniel 1:20, “And in all matters of wisdom and understanding that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.”

Deuteronomy 18:10 Don’t sacrifice your sons or daughters in the fires on your altars. Don’t try to learn what will happen in the future by talking to a fortuneteller or by going to a magician, a witch, or a sorcerer.

Leviticus 19:26 “You must not eat any meat with blood still in it. “You must not try to use different kinds of magic to tell the future.

13 “A prophet or someone who explains dreams might come to you and tell you that they will show you a sign or a miracle. 2 And the sign or miracle they told you about might come true. Then they might ask you to follow other gods (gods you don’t know) and say to you, ‘Let’s serve these gods!’ 3 Don’t listen to them, because the Lord your God is testing you. They might say to the people of their city, ‘Let’s go and serve other gods.’ (These gods would be gods that you never knew before.) 14 If you hear this kind of news, you must do all you can to learn if it is true. If you learn that it is true, if you prove that such a terrible thing really did happen,

20 “But a prophet might say something that I did not tell him to say. And he might tell people that he is speaking for me. If this happens, that prophet must be killed. Don’t listen to the dreams they have. 9 They are telling lies, and they are saying that their message is from me. But I didn’t send it.” This message is from the Lord.

10 This is what the Lord says: “Babylon will be powerful for 70 years. After that time, I will come to you people who are living in Babylon. I will keep my good promise to bring you back to Jerusalem.

Ezekiel 21:21
The king of Babylon has come to where the two roads separate. He uses magic to learn which way to go: He shakes his arrows, he asks his family idols, and he looks at the liver from an animal he has killed.

Revelation 21:8
But those who are cowards, those who refuse to believe, those who do terrible things, those who kill, those who sin sexually, those who do evil magic, those who worship idols, and those who tell lies—they will all have a place in the lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

Revelation 22:15
Outside the city are all those who live like dogs—those who do evil magic, those who sin sexually, those who murder, those who worship idols, and those who love to lie and pretend to be good.

There is a relationship between magic and worshiping false idols.

Beware of those who tell you what you want to hear rather than what God wants you to hear.

The simple answer is not to take anything prophetic at face value without thoroughly testing it by the measure of the written Word of God. The Scripture says, "Prove all things and hold fast to that which is good". John says, "Don't believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are of God or not."

Go by the attitude that nine out of ten prophetic words whether personal or corporate come from the world, flesh or the devil, unless shown clearly otherwise. "Innocent until proven guilty" is not the safe way to treat the prophetic. "Guilty until proven innocent" is the safest way.

Some of the most dangerous prophecies can come from those who have a great reputation in the prophetic, and can prompt unthinking people to accept a prophecy or word of knowledge just on the basis that the particular person gave it, instead of going to the written Word to apply the proper test to it. If someone gives you a prophetic word, or in a meeting where prophetic words are given, have your digital recorder ready to record the prophecies, so you can examine them with your open Bible later.
