I am only 67 but I find myself becoming more heavenly minded. That is talking or communicating with people that are in Heaven. Of course I spend a reasonable amount of time to pray for strength and for healing. We need to do what we can to minister to others and help them in their need. Then more people will come to visit us and even become dependent on us. My dad worked up until he was 86. It was when he was forced to retire that he began to deteriorate. He always believed we needed to contribute to society and do what we can to help others. Good that your wife is so devoted and willing to do what she can to take care of you.

Welcome to the forum, MitchW. Sounds like you've been through a lot. At at time when people should be drawing near in helpfulness, it's hard to find yourself being alone, and I'm glad your wife has faithfully standing by you. You are right in that He promised He would never leave or forsake you. I hope you find comfort in the encouragement from us on this online platform as I have found from being here.

I'm sorry that you have had so many difficulties. Life isn't always easy. How good that you have your wife, though, and above all your Saviour. He will see you through if you have given your life to Him. I agree about the Bible being important and our 'comforting scriptures' thread may help you too. It is there for any of us who are going through difficult times. Also you might like to join in some of the other threads.

I love the Gaither Vocal Band's song "Home where I belong". I've posted it on the 'Today I'm Grateful for...' thread, #2284. I didn't copy it here because I'm not sure whether it would be helpful or not. It's true for any Christian, any age, though.

Dear Mitch you have a hard time and I am sorry for all that has happened and the difficulties you face now.
I have said previously that I believe it is at times like this that we realise that our precious Saviour is the only one who truly understands all we are going through and will lovingly bear our burdens.
Sadly your experience with the church seems all too common and it is to its shame everywhere where a church neglects any of their members.We sometimes forget that there is also much worldliness in the church nowadays.
I find myself less and less interested in things of this world because ultimately God is all that matters and I feel so out of touch and alien in this world.
I think this as a whole is a good thing because here is NOT our home and I long for heaven.
Knowing our time here on earth is in His hands is comforting because it reminds us that there is a purpose for everything that has happened in our life and painful as it may be, I know that in my instance, my pain and other circumstances have driven me to Him and keeps me there, for I know that ultimately no matter what others may do He is the only one I can trust to NEVER leave me.
As He will also never leave or forsake you dear brother.

Like you I am getting on in years and sometimes don't feel very useful but you know, we can always pray for others. I believe prayer has greater value than anything else we can do for others.

Hello Mitch, for the last two weeks I have been listening to John MacArthur on Grace to You's broadcast that, believe it or not is all about heaven. It is his 50th year in the ministry and they are playing some of his previous broadcasts.
I have found it really helpful because firstly it is straight out Bible exposition, not someone's idea of what heaven will be like and secondly because I think we should prepare and think about where God has for us.
Nowadays more than ever we need to be looking forward rather than at present circumstances and heaven seems to be neglected in many sermons.
Anyway I am just letting you know in case you may like to listen.
