Hey guys, my name is Matthew.

A little background for why I'm asking for prayer... I'm 24, currently trying to prepare to apply to the police in my area while working full time at a very draining warehouse (12 hour shifts this week), I attend Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes 3 days a week, and unfortunatly slacking off with my cardio training for the beep test that the police will hold when I apply. Its very energy draining, and to top it off, I find myself living more secular by admittedly giving into inappropriate content/fornication, as well as sleeping with my non-Christian girlfriend, which I feel trapped in doing honestly.

I feel I suck at praying and don't know what to say, I've seen a lot of videos online saying there's no specific way to pray but there's a way NOT to pray (or a way to pray better) and I don't know if I'm doing those things. Nonetheless, I could use the support to fight the demons in my life that are clinging me to sin like inappropriate content, fornication, swearing, and even no self confidence (which I struggle with most). I need to build the discipline, confidence, and faith and I'm struggling here. I believe in the end of days and I really don't want to be the lukewarm believer or the person with not enough oil when Jesus returns.

I appreciate any help, God bless

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. - James 1:17

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. - 1 John 1:5

Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God. - Luke 22:69

If E = mc2 then we can divide and conclude that...

Mass (m) = Energy (E/c2)

And there are three varieties...

Natural E/c2 - All mass is basically cooled plasma, the sun is the visible form of E/c2.
Mental E/c2 - Mentally, A mathematical formula, but this has chemical and spiritual properties as well.
Spiritual E/c2 - E (motivation, warmth, love) / c2 (faith, hope, charity, joy)

God can change energy to matter... E/c2 (energy)= m (matter)
God can change matter to energy... m (matter) = E/c2 (energy)

All to his will and liking! And no force can stand against the will in what he intends to do! In my prayers I pray...

My Father which art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
By kingdom come thy will be done
As in Earth as it is in heaven
Give me today my daily bread
Forgive me my debts as I forgive my debtors
For thine is the power and the glory
The Light and the Energy
Bless me I pray
In Jesus name I pray.

Who is among you that feareth the Lord, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the Lord, and stay upon his God. - Isaiah 50:10

First, let's take a step back and forget about the overwhelming feelings you have right now. You are looking at a mountain of guilt and pain and don't know where to start. The good news is, Jesus was tempted in every way. Every way, so I tend to come "at him" like that. He's been through it, he gets it. He sees you better than you do.

I can't tell you the right way to pray for you, but I can tell you what I do, and use that as my suggestion. Here goes: Talk to him, all the time. Like he's sitting beside you. He's an active participant so treat him as such, even when it feels foreign to you at first. Awkward silences can feel awkward, so can breaking that silence.

I often ramble, throw things out to him in my head like "did you see that just now? Crazy!" Because he wants to hear from us, know us, walk with us. It doesn't even need to be carefully crafted or monumental. Sometimes the little things matter most, and build connections. It's your relationship, that's the beauty of it. You get to work it out with him and what you are comfortable with (and maybe sometimes giving yourself a push isn't bad either). I laugh with him, cry with him, tell him how in awe of what I just saw him create.

I kneel in solumn and humble prayer as well, or sometimes (and this is key), I just listen. Seriously, some of the best clarity comes from not talking: in your head or in your mouth. Force yourself to focus on nothing but him for 15 minutes. Try aiming for once a week, if nothing else. Prayer, like life, is a series of steps in any given direction. Make one decision, one step, and keep doing that. Pretty soon you look back and that mountain is in the distance...

Sorry for the ramble. Hope it helps! I will pray for you tonight

The BJJ should be good with confidence and good luck with the cop thing, I always wanted to be a cop and gave it a shot (RCMP) but failed bc of some screw ups in my past....oh well. Life goes on and letting God take care of the details takes some of the pressure off.

As far as praying goes, don’t get all OCD about it. I used to worry about that too but then I realized that God isn’t an idiot so even if our prayers suck, he gets it. It’s our hearts he listens to anyway plus he already knows what we need/desire.

However, Here are some links to prayers that have helped me when I felt like I couldn’t get the prayers out right

Traditional Catholic Prayers to Inspire You
Prayers
From His Presence® - Living In the Power, Purpose, and Presence of Jesus

Sometimes I will just google how to pray for something, you’d be surprised how often I get an answer :)

As for the sins you’re committing and worried about like lust, I’d say try not doing them. Stop having sex with your gf , stop watching inappropriate content, you know what you have to do if you just listen to the quiet voice inside you telling you what to do. That will breed discipline my friend.

Thanks for sharing, Matthew & asking for help. When we get honest with God, ourselves & other praying Christians, we can make dramatic changes to bring about fruit in keeping with repentance. We all have the same amount of time & most of us have the ability to make choices.

John 3:19-21 And this is the verdict: The Light has come into the world, but men loved the darkness rather than the Light, because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the Light & does not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever practices the truth comes into the Light, so that it may be seen clearly that what he has done has been accomplished in God.”

James gives you the solution to your problems on sin & prayer.

What causes conflicts & quarrels among you? Don’t they come from the passions at war within you? 2You crave what you do not have...You quarrel & fight. You do not have, because you do not ask. 3And when you do ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may squander it on your pleasures.

4You adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore, whoever chooses to be a friend of the world renders himself an ENEMY of God. Or do you think the Scripture says without reason that the Spirit He caused to dwell in us yearns with envy? But He gives us MORE GRACE.

This is why it says: “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil & he WILL FLEE from you. Draw near to God--He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners & purify your hearts, you DOUBLE-MINDED.

9Grieve, mourn & weep. Turn your laughter to mourning & your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord & HE WILL EXALT YOU.

The more we commit sin without dealing with it, the harder our heart becomes to the conviction of the Holy Spirit. We grieve & quench His inner promptings. Jesus said he who practices sinning becomes a slave to it, entangling us. It is time to get free by relying on God's powerful grace.

Repent & confess your sins. God is faithful & just to forgive your sins & cleanse you from all unrighteousness. Bear fruit with your repentance by changing your lifestyle. You ARE a man of faith, though it may be weak. Now is the time to exercise your faith like you exercise in your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Guilt is eating you up. Go to God immediately & confess your wrongs before Him & ask Him to cleanse you. He has promised He will. Let His forgiveness & freedom wash over you like a refreshing shower, to renew you.

You have ALREADY learned discipline in your martial arts, so you are stronger than you imagine. You also need to have a prayer partner & someone to hold you accountable & you hold him accountable. This is essential to practicing honesty & turning away from sin & turning to Christ's power & grace.

I Corinthians 6:18 FLEE fornication. Every sin that a man does is outside the body; but he that commits fornication sins against his own body.

Flee anyway you can from continuing to fornicate with your girlfriend. If she lives with you or you with her, move out. Flee the immediate temptation. Honestly tell her this can no longer go on. She will respect you more by showing leadership. Talk this through & don't compromise.

Romans 14:13,14 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ & make NO PROVISION FOR the flesh, to gratify its desires.

How do you stop the inappropriate content input? Make no PROVISION for the flesh, to gratify it by cutting off the source of the inappropriate content. If it is TV, then remove the channels from your service that are inappropriate contentographic. If it is on the internet or phone, put a purity block program on them, so that if you try to access them in moments of weakness, it blocks them. It helps as you get stronger in your resistance to sin.

Your life is also a stressful life due to the amount you are doing. Here is a principle I have sought to live by in my life.

"If you output exceeds your intake, your upkeep will be your downfall."

Seek tomorrow to establish a minimum of 5 minutes with the Lord before starting a day. Use the acronym: ACTS (adoration, confession, thanksgiving, supplication & service)

The Bible, the Word of God will keep you from sinning or sinning will keep you from the Word of God.

Psalm 119:9-11 How can a young man keep his way pure. By guarding it according to Your Word. With my WHOLE heart I have sought You. Let me not WANDER from Your commandments. I have hidden Your Word within my heart, so that I might not sin against You.

Memorize verses in the Bible to take with you wherever you go. Meditate on them. Pray them back to God. Claim them!

I Corinthians 10:13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand (endure). When you are tempted, he will show you a way out (way of escape) so that you can endure & stand up against it.

I memorized this verse & one more to help me in turning from temptation & finding God's escape route. It is always there if I want it & choose to use it.

Here is another passage that also helped me in Psalm 119 also, verses 58-60:

I have sought Your face with all my heart; be gracious to me according to Your promise. I have considered my ways (life direction) & have turned my steps back to keeping your statutes. I hurried without hesitating (delaying) to keep Your commandments.

I am praying for you. If anything I have shared helps, then praise the Lord. But get right with God & your girlfriend & listen to Him & others that can hold you accountable. You will never regret it! God's mercy & peace be with you as you walk in the light of His grace.

Hello Leonine,

I wish I could take all your pain away and give you perfect clarity in this moment, but I can't. Thank God for the Loving Shepherd of you and me who can!

You are in a lot of pain and confusion, so maybe going back to the heart of it all would be best. I know you feel overwhelmed by everything you are struggling with and the sin that has entangled you, but remember, pleasing God boils down to this: "Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’" This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’" All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37-40).

As for the sin that entangles you: " If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9. That's it - confess all your sins to God, and He will forgive you and deliver you from all!

Lord, please reach out to this young man and lift him up - as I know you already doing. There is a lot going on - a lot that needs to be untangled and dealt with. But you are a gentle God, and an excellent (and persistent) Refiner. Thank you for loving him and delivering him from all he faces. Please lead him into paths of righteousness, and please bring salvation to his girlfriend. Please deliver him from the guilt that binds him - and please help him to know your love - that love that covers a multitude of sins (for all of us). Please help to him to know and live out the victory that you have already given him!

Lastly Lord, please bless his pursuit to join the police force, and please use him mightily in that way. Please reassure him of his future, and please be his Hope. Please protect him - especially if he joins the force. Amen.

I've read all your prayers and comments and I appreciate all of them.

I've been listening to preachers just as Dr. Kim and YouTube channels like Lion of Judah and THE BEAT by Allen Parr which are kind of motivational and help my understanding.

God bless you all

It sounds like you are very healthy. Therefore fasting can work wonders for you. A once a week 24 hour water only fast, on any day you are not at work, would be great - combined with prayer of course. Through that method I believe you will see strongholds fall one after another.

How do we pray? When the apostles asked Messiah that He gave them what we call The Lord's Prayer. Notice it says "Give us this day our daily bread." That show it is a prayer that is to be said daily.

The Bible also tells us to "Come into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise." We are told to praise far more than we are told to pray. There is always something to give thanks for! The biggest is for the Blood of our Savior.

"Faith works by love" so, though we may not feel a lot of love, at least we must not be mechanical in our prayers but say them from the heart. The heart is way more important than the words. Just ask for what you need. Remember your Heavenly Father is called "The Father of Mercies" and that "He delights to show us mercy." He WANTS to help you!

"Pride goes before a fall..." You do not sound prideful at all, but still it may help to remember to always be humble before the Lord in prayer.

I pray that you will get free in every way and that you will have employment that blesses you and blesses others.
