Hey! I am looking for insite on my situation. I find it very hard to stay strong in christian thinking in my normal life because I feel surrounded by sin. At work and at home with tv and internet and in public like shopping it is ads and people talking. and the news talks about depressing things always. Some of my friends expect me to follow them doing drugs and sex and I do not want to do those things anymore but I also do not want to lose friendships. but they are disapointed when I do not. The temptations make me too tired to go out and having fun any more.
Even if I end all of my relationships I would still be surrounded by temptation at all times. I am wondering if there is bible verses you recommend or prayers I can say or some way to help keep my mind pure? I am thinking out loud only and hoping someone has dealt with this.

I have found in my own life that to maintain your beliefs is probably more easily than your actions,

The Franklin Covenant is the best way to remain sexually pure.

Never be alone with someone not your spouse or your female/male family friends.

Keep the door ajar when networking and counseling and advising.

If any accuse you of hindering anyone's professional career by doing the above, limit your activity to that person in group activities.

The Psalms work wonders for this. We aim to pray them frequently, and meditate on them day and night.

Since you sound very 'surrounded', maybe Psalm 57 (56)? This one:

May God give you strength and protection from every bad thing.

I use several strategies to strengthen my mindset and spirit. But there’s always room for improvement!

This is my touchstone:

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

I’ve undertaken a continual pruning process and removed influences which don’t support the Lord’s perspective. This specifically refers to the things I read, view and listen to. Avoiding content that reinforces fear, negativity, or unwholesome behavior makes a marked difference in your joy and peace of mind.

I work from home and don’t have workplace challenges. But I collaborate with fellow entrepreneurs and consider their character before forging alliances.

The same is true for friendships. I look for mutually beneficial connections. While everyone hasn’t come to faith, we share similar values and life experiences. I focus on intentional relationships where support and encouragement are the norm.

Finally, make prayer your anchor and ask for the things you lack. I made a list of my wants and needs and pray them continually. God has provided most of them thus far. Keep knocking until He does the same for you.

I've taken a few snapshots from my blog posts that I think is helpful: www.femiroyalblog.com

The more you love Jesus, the more you will become conscious of sin, temptation, and Satan’s attack; and the more you become more conscious of the spiritual conflicts, the more you will treasure and appreciate the amazing love Jesus has for you by nailing all your sins to His cross and giving you victory to overcome. Loving Jesus begins with being dissatisfied with your current level of loving Jesus.

To claim the victory and take the authority of Jesus, you and I must stand firm on every promise of God given to us in the scripture. For it written:

“No weapon formed against you will prevail” – Isaiah 54:7
“The One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” – 1 John 4:4
“Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through the Lord Jesus Christ” – 1 Corinthians 15:57
“But thanks be to God who always leads us in a triumphant procession in Christ Jesus” – 2 Corinthians 2:14
“No temptation has ceased you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will provide a way out so that you can endure it” – 1 Corinthians 10:13

Surrender to the control of the Holy Spirit gives us freedom from the control of sin. Surrender to the power of the Holy Spirit will keep us from the pitfalls of the old nature. Surrendering of our will to the Spirit of the Living God will help us over the enemies trap every time.

When the bible talks about self-control – the fruit of the Spirit (revealed in Galatians 5:22-23), it does not mean self-mastery, nor self-improvement, the Bible is talking about self-surrender to the Holy Spirit. Self-control is being empowered by the Holy Spirit of God, but self-mastery is dependent entirely on one’s power and will. Self-control is what takes place in a person’s life out of the abundance that springs out of that person’s love for Jesus, but self-mastery is designed to make to make a person take control of their own destiny. Even at its best, anyone practising self-mastery if they are honest will admit that things are truly out of control when their soul is completely naked before God.

We must be ruthless in moral self-deny. Job said (in Job 31:1), “I made a covenant with my eyes that I would not gaze at a woman. “According to Proverb 27:20 & Ecclesiastes 1:8, “The eyes of men are never satisfied; the eye is never satisfied with seeing.” “Be careful, then, what you allow your eyes to see and your heart to desire. For nothing the Enemy offers can match what you have already been promised in Christ” – Dr. Michael Youssef.

"Be strong in the Lord and His mighty power" – Ephesians 6:10

How to be pure:

STEP ONE: Be Jesus, Son of God.
STEP TWO: good luck with that!

Hmmmm

Gal. 2:20
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

I'd suggest finding something to volunteer in, in your spare time. Keep your mind and your hands busy with doing good, alongside others intent on doing good, and there's less space for what is destructive.

The bible says that there is a middle road, and that when we fear God he will help us find it.

Ecc 7:16-18 Be not overly righteous, and do not make yourself too wise. Why should you destroy yourself? Be not overly wicked, neither be a fool. Why should you die before your time? It is good that you should take hold of this, and from that withhold not your hand, for the one who fears God shall come out from both of them.

But as a general exhortation, I would say if you wish to avoid sin, spend more time in prayer. Jesus said "pray that you enter not into temptation, for the spirit is willing and the flesh weak". God's Holy Spirit strengthens us as we pray, giving strength for each day.

I have to not make excuses and set my fear of change away and trust God. I guess I find that difficult mostly, is changing so drastic what I thought I need.
I did not know how to pray or what to say. But all of you have given me very much to think and read and learn from. Thanks so very much :D

And I did not mean being perfect like Jesus but I mean being better like he wants us to be.

James 4:7-10 (KJV) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Hello- These are the Bible verses you can meditate on.

“How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word.” (Psalm 119:9)
“I will set no vile thing before my eyes. I hate the deeds of faithless men. They will not cling to me.” (Psalm 101:3)
“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night.” (Psalm 1:1-2)
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” (Matthew 6:13)
“For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go.” (Psalms 91:11)

I pray that the Lord will bless and protect you. Take care and keep us posted. God bless.

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:13-16

You are called to be salt and light to your “friends”.

Salt preserves from corruption and like exposes darkness.

You might as well get it straight now, and work out these issues because your “friends” that are not saved will entice you back into the pollutions of the world, and ultimately you will become lost.

If you love your friends then you may need to separate yourself from them and find some godly friends that will encourage you in the faith.

The day will come when they are wanting to turn to Christ themselves and you can be there for them.

Now you must spend time praying for them.

For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”
2 Peter 2:20-22

At this stage of your Christian life, you should not associate with sinners.

This is one of many warning scriptures (911) in the New Testament.

I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people. Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner—not even to eat with such a person. 1 Corinthians 5:9-11

If we are not to keep company with Christians who are immoral, then how much more the people of the world?

My friends are not shallow. Our friendship would not end because I do not want to do these things. But I think it is difficult to spend time with them because I am not interested in party scenes.
One friend is interested in going to church with me. He was raised christian. But it is a hard situation.
My other friends are ok with my change in beliefs but they do not agree. We do talk about it some times.
I am sad to see us fall apart though. I do not see them a lot and when I do they think they have to act different which makes me feel bad when I know I should not. Or there are other people around who do not care and that is when I am tempted to do these things. I usually do leave or never go any way. I want to be stronger to be able to just say no every time but some times I think it is not so bad but I know that is a wrong way to think.
Thank you for the bible passages I will read more of it.
