The Danes are currently in the process of preparing Greenland for true independence. Why would they ever consider selling it to another nation?

The ice is melting so they can be even greener.

If we bought Greenland would it be a revenue generator or an expense? Maybe China could underwrite our mortgage? We don't have the money.

From a military perspective - it is a strategic thought. Air defense would be enhanced.

You already have a base on Greenland.

We already have an airbase there.

It’s all about those rare earth minerals.

If such a transaction were to take place we must realize that Denmark does not own Greenland. It governs Greenland only through its colonial history. First Denmark would need to acknowledge that the people who own Greenland are the people who live there. Once Greenland has been recognized as an independent nation then the citizens of Greenland can decide such issues for themselves.

That would have to be renegotiated with the Greenlanders. The USA had an airbase in Newfoundland when it decide by a narrow margin to join Canada rather than the USA in 1949. That airbase is gone. An airbase does not grant ownership.

We should totally buy Madagascar.

Yes Sondrestrom Air Base does exist - has for decades - but sharing an airport is completely different than setting up operations and possible rocket sites as part of a comprehensive air defense program.

It's not the idea that buying land from another country is bad, it's the idea that he thinks it's for sale.
