A 30 some odd year old woman walked into a QT yesterday and barricaded herself in a bathroom.

Her family called police worried about her. The hours long standoff ended with a single gunshot. She ended her life.

Social media was a blaze with comments during this time. It was a very busy area.

—- She is just trying to get attention
—- Why did they block off the intersection. Such an inconvenience to go around
—- I was stuck in traffic for more than an hour
—- they should tear gas her and taze her

Hundreds of comments.

All complaints

She was someone’s daughter, someone’s mother, someone’s wife and she was so lost and shattered that she ended her own life out of desperation.

God forgive us! Forgive us for becoming so complacent we missed this hurting person, we showed more concern about our schedule than we did for her life.

And God forgive us for spending more time behind the key board than we do reaching the lost.

Makes me embarrassed and weep.

Social media is a wonderful tool to show the true darkness in peoples hearts. When it comes to face value, people can act and pretend to care or feel sympathy all they want, but social media/the internet gives people the opportunity to say what they want and think without fear of what normally would be real life consequences. Not only that, but I think it's concluded to a deep loss of empathy in our culture at large. People just don't care about people, which has never been farther from the truth. After all, when they're hearts are fed by the world to be so utterly self-absorbed, why should they? When Solomon wrote Ecclesiastes he wrote: Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. The truth of that still stands today.

The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is
no new thing under the sun. Ecclesiastes 1:9

We most certainly need to be that Light--to be set apart as Christ has called us to be.

It's heartbreaking to not be able to help those who are tormented with drepression. I'm sorry for your loss.

1 John 4
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

I am sorry for anyone in such despair that they choose to end their life.

Though to be fair; did those who commented on social media know that this is what had happened, or were they just told that there was a traffic diversion?

The ones I was referring to knew she had locked herself in a restroom and there was a standoff. It was all over the news and on radio.

It's sad that they made those comments, then. :(

It's time we get off the pews and go after the lost.
But, are we going to? How many of us, this same time next week, will have to admit that, just as we usually do, went through the entire week without really noticing the hurting people around us.... and did nothing?

Much of the time, people don't want help. When you try, the response is almost always, "If I wanted help, I would have asked for it!"

This is sad. Society is certainly very self centered anymore. We (as a society) get so wrapped up in how things affect "me" that "we" forget about the larger picture. The more self centered society gets, the worse it'll get too.

I hope this lady's family and friends find some peace

Psalm 41:1 'Blessed is he who has concern for the weak'

Suicide is a tragedy, but it's at the end of a hard road. Recognising and helping people somewhere along this road, showing them genuine friendship, care and compassion, being kind and gentle, even just welcoming them to church with a greeting or a smile- it's a wonderful thing to do. And something we all can do. One gesture can build someone up or tear them down. God Bless :)
