Judicial Watch Victory: Federal Court Orders Maryland to Produce Voter Registration List Data to Judicial Watch

Judicial Watch had sought the Maryland voter list data after discovering that there were more registered voters in Montgomery County than citizens over the age of 18 who could register. U.S. District Court Judge Ellen Lipton Hollander rejected Maryland’s objections to providing the voter list information under Section 8(i) of the National Voter Registration Act:
...
Democrat Maryland officials, in response, attacked and smeared Judicial Watch by suggesting it was an agent of Russia.

“Now that the court has cleared the way for Judicial Watch to obtain the Montgomery voter data, our efforts to force the State of Maryland to comply with the NVRA and clean up its voter rolls may proceed,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “After our successful efforts to bring Kentucky, California, Ohio and Indiana into compliance with the National Voter Registration Act, it’s time for Maryland politicians to stop the politics, see the light, get right with the law and clean up the State’s voter rolls. If they don’t, we’ll see them in court again.

Good thing there isn't a pattern by right-wing groups to use this sort of approach to disenfranchise voters .. oh wait : "Someone did not do their due diligence": How an attempt to review Texas' voter rolls turned into a debacle

Soon after, the citizenship review effort buckled, revealing itself as a ham-handed exercise that threatened to jeopardize the votes of thousands of legitimate voters across the state. The secretary of state’s office eventually walked back its initial findings after embarrassing errors in the data revealed that tens of thousands of the voters the state flagged were citizens. At least one lawsuit was filed to halt the review, and others were likely in the pipeline. And a week into the review, no evidence of large-scale voter fraud had emerged.

Good thing that isn't the problem Judicial Watch uncovered in Maryland.

Sure, Democrats in control in Maryland could dis-enfranchise voters if they handle the matter incompetently but I'm sure Democrat election officials in Maryland will do everything within their power to take only those voters off the rolls who are ineligible to vote.

I guess I'd have to see how many ineligible voters are actually voting before worrying about it too much one way or the other. From everything I've seen, it is a complete non-problem ... unless you happen to be a President grasping at straws to find reasons why the majority of voters voted against him in the last election.

Speaking of which, I wonder when his committee is going to release a similar list of names. Seems like they've had a while to figure it out. I can't wait to see what they found.

Are you grasping at straws to blame the president?

This matter was brought to court by Judicial Watch, a non-profit watchdog group. Do you have an issue with Judicial Watch?

Judicial Watch are a radical conservative activist group that amongst (many) other things promoted the conspiracy theory that the Clintons murdered Vince Foster. So please don’t try and claim they’re some neutral watchdog group. They have about as much legitimacy as InfoWars.

Comparing Judicial Watch with InfoWars seems overly provocative.

Judicial Watch is a watchdog group which seeks out information via the legal system. One of the primary means they use to extract information is with FOIA requests. Judicial Watch has been remarkably successful at having their FOIA requests honored. Occasionally Judicial Watch will file lawsuits to force compliance with federal and local laws, as happened recently in Maryland as stated in the OP.

If they stuck to FOIA requests and stopped with the conspiracy nonsense I’d probably have at least some respect for them. If they actually held both sides to account instead of being a right wing attack organization I’d have a lot more.

Requesting information is not conspiracy nonsense.

They follow where the evidence leads. I should think you would be thanking Judicial Watch for following trails of evidence which lead to a dead end sometimes. Federal prosecutors often do the very same thing.

Please don’t be disingenuous. They not only request information, they also help propagate conspiracy theories like the ‘Vince Foster murdered by the Clintons’ nonsense I mentioned earlier.

I'm not being disingenuous at all.

Just because you have a negative 'opinion' of Judicial Watch doesn't make your opinion correct.

Again, using the legal system to obtain information which helps put conspiracy theories to rest (one way or another) is not the same as promoting conspiracy theories.

Doing so is largely why the American legal system has been constructed as it has, so that only those who can be convincingly shown to be guilty go to jail. I doubt that anyone on this forum wants a legal system where those holding high office can dictate the official version of events.

Oh please, Judicial Watch have zero interest in putting these conspiracy theories to rest. The fact they talk about them and avidly inform their supporters that they’re ‘investigated’ just makes these conspiracy theories spread in the first place. Where once it was just the preserve of crazy little known websites, suddenly normally rational conservatives start to think there must be some fire to go with the smoke because hey ‘non-profit watchdogs’ like Judicial Watch are not only involved but are demanding government documents! GASP!

And now you tell me exactly how many times Judicial Watch have done big press conferences to announce that actually their investigations and FOIA requests actually revealed an anti-Dem conspiracy theory was complete nonsense?

Sigh. :sigh: It seems that a favorite tactic of the left, when all else fails, is to accuse conservatives and conservative groups of promoting "conspiracy theories".

For anyone interested, here's a link to the Judicial Watch website:

Apart from a particularly funny headline that reads ‘New Ohr docs document anti-Trump coup’ (they know that docs is short for documents right?), how exactly did that link support your argument that they aren’t a bunch of conspiracy theory supporters?

If anything, I feel like you achieved the opposite.

Thank you for making my point so clearly.

When everything is being called a 'conspiracy theory', the claim loses all legitimacy.

Well, you shouldn't downplay the skill of Conservatives! I mean who else in their right mind would think PizzaGate was real? Of COURSE it was pedaled by the Right Wing! And it took some extremist on the Right to go even further with it! Same thing for the "invasion" stuff. It appeals to those with a right wing bent and so we wind up with El Paso!

Conspiracy theories are not the sole purview of Right or Left but you gotta admit with things like Alex Jones (one of Trump's biggest cheer leaders and a guy Trump seems to like) really have taken it all to a high artform.
