For years I thought that "vain babbling and repetitions" was speaking about daily Jewish prayer. I mean, "Ho hum... same prayer in the morning, same prayer at night....." But then I got to realizing something, they start the day with the Lord on their mind, heart and lips. Yes, same prayer as yesterday but I don't always start my day with the Lord on my lips in prayer. And the last thing they do before putting the day behind them is have the Lord on the mind, heart and lips.

No, this isn't the renewing Paul is speaking of, directly anyway. But seeing we have to put some effort into our walk, then whatever it is we are capable of, we need to do. And making sure that we are beginning the day, or ending the day, in prayer before our Father, isn't a bad idea.

If there be young here among us that truly takes these all these thoughts to heart, they all come under such a heading. Not so much a careful study on that road to maturity as it is a careful watch not to become an occasion for them to stumble. Therein, that maturity of becoming more like Him, saying, if He were here walking among us, would those young stumble if they perceive Him sitting down to dine with the winebibber?


, , or would that perception eventually give way to understand His concern for their souls "by all means, save some"?
