• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

sometimes I get an overwhelming feeling I’m doomed to go to hell.
I know that I shouldn’t feel this way as there is no sin the Holy Spirit cannot forgive.
Are there any bible verses or lessons about this?
Thanks

The part of you that is born again will not go to hell. The body and the thoughts that come with its brain, will go to hell. The body will die and decay and be no more. The born again part of you lives on.

I've had feelings in the past like this even though I know I'm saved. I read Psalm 77 by "chance" and it really helped as I felt God wasn't listening to my prayer also.

This helped me also: “I Doubt My Salvation and Don't Feel Saved”

Consider how Adam and Eve dreaded to face God after they had ate from the tree- otherwise there would have been no need to dread meeting Him. Because of His grace provided in Jesus Christ we can be prepared to meet Him when we are seeking him with our whole hearts and submitting to the instruction of His Word. Let Him order your life according to the instruction of His Word and strive to do what is pleasing in His sight so that your conscience can be clean before Him. This is called walking in the light and we are promised forgiveness and cleansing from all unrighteousness as we walk in the light. That is from 1 John chapter 1: and I think the Gospel according to John and the epistle of 1 John would be especially helpful for you to read now in light of your post.

i think it is a lie that satan grows inside believer\s hearts because he accuses them with their sins and shortcomings to keep them away from their salvation.

After years freaking going to hell i realised how much i must have hurt Jesus thinking such bad thoughts about Him, while He loved me so much that He died for my sins to pay my price. Me not believing that must have been agonising to His loving heart to say the least.

So it is best to fight the accuser who tries rob us of our salvation making us believe lies about God. Lies which turn our graciously loving and kind God into a liar and into a horrible dragon of a god who can't even safe those who believe in Him.

This is why fearing hell after you have confessed Jesus as your Lord is not a wise thing to do. Its best to go to Jesus and let His loving truth set you free from your fears and then you will see first hand how perfect love casts out fear, for fear has to do with punishment, but there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Now each time the devil tries to scare me with Hell i rejoice in my salvation because of Christ and i love Him for setting me free from my fears. i hope this will soon be your reality as well.

Peace.

1 John 3:19-24
This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him. And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

God did not write our name in the book of life in pencil. He does not erase our name every time we sin, then writes it back in when we repent. When God writes our name in the book of life, He writes it in the precious blood of Jesus. There is no ink that is more permanent and indelible than the blood of our Saviour, Christ Jesus.

Jesus continually emphasized that those who believe in Him have everlasting life and will not come under judgement but have passed from death into life.
The unbelieving world is in serious trouble, they are the ones going to hell, both body and soul. And then they will be resurrected from Hell and be judged on their deeds, while they stare at the Lake of Fire into which they are going to be cast.

There are three steps to justifying faith:
1. Mental assent to the gospel ("I believe that God is real and that Jesus came and died on the cross and rose again and that those who believe on Him will inherit eternal life"). But this is not enough to justify a person before God. The demons also believe these things, but they are not given saving faith.

2. Coming to God and receiving Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord - making a contract between Him and you that because Jesus died on the cross and paid the penalty for your sinfulness, you are going to embrace Him, make Him your Lord and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you the way He wants you to go. This is the act of faith that converts you to Christ and justifies you before God. At this point you are saved from Hell, and have the seed of God's grace in your heart.
But there are many who have taken this step, but don't have the assurance of salvation, and so, like you, still have doubts and fears about whether they are saved or not. Even the smallest spark of grace in a person's heart will get them to heaven in the same way that a full measure of grace will. Some have great faith, and others have the faith just of a mustard seed, but in either case it is the faith that justifies and gets the person to heaven.

3. Assurance of salvation. This is a blessed state that many have come to. They know beyond doubt that they are truly saved and have no fear of punishment and hell. This is a work only the Holy Spirit can do in a person, and it is good to seek God for it through prayer and study of His word. Sometimes God delays giving the assurance because He wants to really make sure that the believer is trusting fully in Christ even though the assurance hasn't come yet. That person may say to God, "I know that I am not fully assured of my salvation yet, but I am holding on to Your promises and I will not let You go until You bless me with the assurance I need."

So, in summary:
Stage 1 is not enough to justify and save a seeker from judgment and hell. Just knowing and believing about God and Jesus in your mind without making a personal commitment to Christ is falling short of justifying faith.
Stage 2 is the act of justifying faith. This is the faith that the Holy Spirit gives the seeker to be able to make a full commitment to Christ to be his Saviour and Lord.
Stage 3 is a blessed and very happy state, but it is not necessary for justification. But a seeker will never receive assurance if he stays at Stage 1. He may or may not receive assurance at Stage 2, but he is definitely converted and justified and in the arms of Jesus. He then can look forward to progressing to Stage 3 when the Holy Spirit decides to give it to him.

If you have made your commitment to Christ based on the salvation promises in God's Word, then you are certainly justified and will not go to hell, but I think that you are somewhere between stage 2 and 3, and have yet to gain full assurance of salvation. As you seek the Lord further through prayer and study of His Word, it will come - although there are precious saints of God who went through their whole lives without assurance of salvation, but found themselves in heaven anyway because they trusted God's promises to them.

A good book to read is John Bunyan's "Grace Abounding To The Chief Of Sinners". It is his path from his conversion to his assurance of salvation, and details his struggles as he went from Stage 2 to Stage 3.

From my personal experience most people who are scared of hell is because they either don't understand the gospel or have wrong gospel and believed in vain.

Like it's really simple there are many verses like this one for example :
1 John 5:13 King James Version (KJV)
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Like I know I have eternal life , John knew , Paul knew why you don't know it ?
It is not written maybe , or will have but have in present tense this moment of time John wrote it he knew he alredy had , not after he die , not after he does something for God , not by trying to live serving Lord for rest of his life he alredy had it when he wrote it so how come you think that don't have it if you believe ?

So there are 2 options

a) You commited sin and feel guilty and have bad thoughts of punishment therefore the hell idea
b) You don't understand the gospel

Paul said to examine yourself :
2 Corinthians 13:5 King James Version (KJV)
5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

As a reminder like Paul reminds us definition of gospel can be found in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 .
In his other writtings you can read Ephesians 1:13-14 , Ephesians 2:8-9 , Galatians 2:16 ; Romans 11:6.

Hello. As Oscarr said- the assurance of salvation.

Jesus said- "Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life" (John 5:24)

You have eternal life.
You will not be judged.
You have crossed over from death to life.

God Bless You :)
