My name is Alicia Peterson and I am new here.. I'm reaching out to other people who can be of support to my mental illness. I have Schizophrenia, along with Cervical and Tardive Dystonia. I have a psychiatrist through Interact and I keep on trying to stay on the right path with the people who work and go there for services. It gets hard to not be paranoid about them sometimes, because although I am in a different part of the county I still get services there and ever since I've been with them we have pushed and pulled with each other a lot. It's been a constant struggle for me to be on the right path and I need people in my life I can vent to to talk to and figure things out about my life with. (Even if it's just online from time to time). And.. my neurological disorders (my Cervical and Tardive Dystonia) are really bad. I go to the Bronson Neuroscience Center for Botox injections into my neck that help the disorder. Yes, it really helps it a lot. Anyway, I also have a four year old daughter who is with my family, my step mom (Angela) and my dad (Mark) have custody of her. They are currently in the process of spoiling her rotten and teaching her life lessons :) <3 Thank God for Angela and my dad! Anyway, reach out to me if you have the interest to be there as someone for me to talk to from time to time (even just checking up on each other on here) and that is about it! Have a blessed night and weekend everyone <3

Hi Alicia, I am also a newbie, trying to find spiritual help with depression, I know I was led here after asking Jesus to help me, divine timing I believe

Hello Sunflower,

What you are struggling with struck a cord with me and I wanted to share. I too have suffered from depression, to the extend where I didn't want to continue living.

However, I found a loving church family after years of not going to church, and I got prayer from them and the lovely members of this forum. God healed my depression last year! I still have days where the old darkness wants to drag me down, but now I have the power to resist it. I no longer sink into months-long periods of hopelessness. Knowing there is hope - and knowing that Jesus's light and love consume the darkness - these truths change everything.

Welcome to the forums, and I hope that, whenever you need it, the prayer forum will be a source of help and strength to you!

Thank you GraceTruth Love, when you say 'church family' do you mean attending mass or a specific group in church. Do you pray and read the 'Word' daily?I will look at the prayer forum, thanks

I attend services at an Assemblies of God church, and I joined the worship team there. There is not a particular group really, but just the people in the church in general. One Sunday I worked up the the courage to get prayer for the depression (a miracle in and of itself), and the God-love that was shown me - and the power of God during the prayer session - well, that moment became my turning point.

I do read the Word daily - especially the Gospels. Reading about Jesus' immense compassion toward people refreshes my soul and renews my hope. He healed again and again, and His Love never waned. "A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he has brought justice through to victory." Matthew 12:20.

I pray often as well. What I like to do is keep a prayer journal. In there, I am honest (brutally honest) about what I feel or what I am struggling with on a particular day. Then I wait to hear what He will say and write it down. He tells me what I need to hear, and Jesus lavishes His love and encouragement on me. Journaling this way has changed my life - for the better.

This ran a bit long, but I hope it is helpful.

Thank you Grace Truth Love. I attend church every sunday, my bible is covered in notes and highlighting pens. I really love delving in and getting lost in the word. I am part of a Divine Mercy group, where we meet once a week to pray and our main focus is in preventing abortions. Recently we prayed for a young girl and she did not go through with her planned abortion, she went on to have quads, a delight for all of us.
The part I am not good at is listening to the Holy Spirit. I am now on medication for depression but I am wondering should I be trusting God more to heal me and not go down the medicine route or was the medicine the answer to my prayers.
Growing up we were never to mention Satan, but now I realise the adversary is very real and walks amongst us, we need to be on guard, andd the more we turn to Jesus the more Satan tries to distract us. We have a wonderful priest who believes in exorcisms and I recently spoke with him, he said we can do this deliverance on ourselves, if we feel we need to.
The more I grow with Jesus, the more my business is going down stream and more people are drifting off my path, this is hard for me, but as other members have mentioned in another post of mine, sometimes we need to let go of everything to be in Christ. I need to have more trust and to listen more.
Alicia I hope I have not taken from your original thread, perhaps these posts can help you.
