My grandmother's family came from Greenland to the USA only 100 years ago (7 years before my still-living grandmother was born). It's always seemed like a fascinating place to me. I'm glad that the Greenlanders told Trump to go away. If I ever were to visit, I'd hate to see a bunch of gaudy Trump-branded junk everywhere. There ought to be at least one place on earth you can go where the topic of conversation is not Herr Cheeto's shenanigans, and Greenland seems like a very obvious candidate for that given its natural isolation.

I thought this was a Babylon Bee article about Trump getting tricked into buying Greenland due to its name (much like what happened historically to try and get people to settle there). But seriously, there’s not much there.

Trump has expressed serious interest in buying Greenland

President Trump has reportedly expressed interest in acquiring the northern island country of Greenland.

A new report from the Wall Street Journal reveals that Trump has asked his advisers whether the U.S. can acquire Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory, during "meetings, dinners, and passing conversations" because of Greenland's "abundant resources and geopolitical importance," according to White House sources.

While some of Trump's advisers support the idea as a "good economic play," others dismiss the inquiry as a "fleeting fascination that will never come to fruition."

Coincidentally, the president will be making his first visit to Denmark next month, although the sources say the scheduled trip is completely unrelated.

Greenland does have an indigenous population, I wonder what they think about it. We purchased Denmark's former colonies in the West Indies now known as the US Virgin Islands, so it has been done before with Denmark. I think that would just leave the Faroe Island's as their last vestige of empire.

Well if Trump does buy it I'm sure there will eventually be a "Trump Ice Palace" Casino-Resort. All made out of ice like in that James Bond movie.

He can also build an Ice Wall as high as he wants and put political opponents on the other side and guard it with a special forces ice guard. ^_^

How cold does it get there? I can see living in arctic conditions, but can't in the colder areas. Also, do the people who continue living there become Americans and pay taxes?

ETA: I suggested to his real estate company to buy the Maladives from the Arabs. They want to sell cheap because of fears of AGW as the islands are at sea level.

They would probably have the same relationship as the US Virgin Islands, American Citizens but no right to vote, and do not pay federal income tax, but do pay into Social Security and Medicare. I would also assume they would pay some type of tax/tax's at the local/territory level.

Sounds awfully like the art of the deal. The way he operates. “Sources say his first visit to Denmark next month is totally unrelated.” Really? What sources would those be? So Trump is off to negotiate with the Danes next month and it is somehow beyond everyone’s perceptions that he would start the negotiations with some outrageous position like buying Greenland as a means to bring the final “compromise” over into the favor of the USA? He does this stuff all the time.

LOL you got it. He goes to Denmark, they are thinking "is he really going to ask us to sell Greenland" they prepare for that negotiation approach and then Trump walks off laughing with a free trade deal sending millions of tons of produce from American farmers to Denmark. Then he calls back a few weeks later and tells them he will deliver the crops free of charge if they throw in Greenland.

You saw it here folks.

Here is a speculation. Big USA mining corp or oil Corp want to mine or drill an area out in Greenland’s desolate wilds. Russia has designs on the same area and has already been bribing Danish politicians and funding a massive environmentalist whacko campaign to “save Greenland” to keep the USA out.

Trump knows about all this through our intelligence agencies so when he meets the Danes next month to negotiate for American interests. He starts off a month ahead of time by dropping stories like the one above. Heck we’ll just buy Greenland. We’ll make the people there an offer they cannot refuse.
Now instead of the USA’s interest for an American company to mine or drill there being a huge win against all odds and bribery, graft and subterfuge. The American companies operations there are now the compromise position for everyone involved.

Actually it’s home of Trump’s Fortress of Solitude. He’s just tired of paying rent. ^_^

As the Arctic ice continues to melt due to global warming, Greenland's mineral and energy resources– including iron ore, lead, zinc, diamonds, gold, rare earth elements, uranium and oil – are becoming more accessible.Sep 24, 2014
