NO ONE should be extradited to China.

God help us.

Praying!

I can understand them being upset with her. They are not protesting for frivolous reasons, and there is a lot of violence used just for protesting or speaking your mind. She is living in America and starring in Disney movies. There seems to be a disconnect there.

The same police who stood aside as hooded criminal gangs hired by by China attacked and beat up protesters.

For Disney staying on China’s ‘good’ side is important given China’s increasing importance to box office, but I wonder whether they’d have preferred no comment.

It sounds like she's was trying get attention. She's a famous person, born in China, but lives in America. Of course she wouldn't have problem with cops in Hong Kong. When she visits. Since they worship her like a celeb. She just made a financial mistake. If I was the director of the movie I would be angry.

If you'd watch chinese state tv, you'd propably have her position too. They are displaying the protestors as brutal vandals.

But there's no excuse for someone with access to free media, unless they are indoctrinated.

Very true.

I just saw some photos in research where some of them are using our flag to speak of democracy. Obviously they can't see a lot of the backing/encouragement they're having flood for them on Twitter and some other social media they aren't able to access, I obviously can't access the social media apps they do - googled and it's definitely out of my language ballpark.

So far the actress has maintained silence after her post and stand.

I just saw an article written by The Guardian back in July when the trailer was released, before this happened with the actress. The trailer was accused with the tone of Disney trying to support an anti-democratic message to get back on China's good side. Money does talk apparently. I don't know if they are reading too much into the trailer and a lot of this is guess work, but now with the lead actress stating this, perhaps it isn't fully without Disney's direct backing? The article, The Mulan trailer is a dismal sign Disney is bowing to China's anti-democratic agenda

Time Magazine just released a new article on this about an hour ago.

It has a little more detail on the social media post she wrote/shared:

On Wednesday, Liu reshared a post from the state-backed newspaper People’s Daily that read: “I support the Hong Kong police. You can all attack me now.” Those words were said on Tuesday night by Fu Guohao, a reporter for another state-run Chinese newspaper, while he was being tied up and attacked by protestors at the Hong Kong airport. The words have become a rallying cry for the Chinese government and its supporters, who seek to portray the protestors as violent radicals.

Liu, in her own post, added in Chinese, “I also support the Hong Kong police,” and included heart and strong-arm emojis. Liu has 65 million followers on Weibo, a Chinese social media platform. The original post received over 2 million likes and an outpouring of support, and Liu’s post was liked 81,000 times.

And also:

While she’s being criticized widely on Twitter, Liu’s support of Chinese authorities is the norm for Chinese entertainers. Others have found that protesting the government carries huge career implications: the Catopop singer Denise Ho, a vocal supporter of Hong Kong’s pro-democracy movement, has been blacklisted from the mainland Chinese market. The singer Anthony Wong also said he lost more than half of his annual income that came from China after voicing support for the Umbrella Movement in 2014.

Fortunately, it's not the norm for US entertainers, or the US film industry ... which apparently could use a reminder.

I stand with the Hong Kong protesters. It may take some talking to keep my wife and daughters from seeing the remake of Mulan though.

It's so paradoxical that she is free to voice her opinions here in the United States without any personal repercussions, while someone in mainland China cannot vocally oppose its oppressive Communist government without severe consequences.

She posted her statement on Weibo, since naturally, Twitter is banned in China.

She is also a naturalized American citizen, which makes her stance even more ironic.
