The Lord has had me do a number of different things for Him. One of the most interesting and incredible was a Christian healing ministry that He had me serve in for about five years. You see a lot of incredible things the Lord does in that ministry and more importantly He teaches you a lot in it! I easily learned more in those five years than I learned in any other ten years with Him.

I think the most important thing I learn was the connections between our getting healing and the relationship we have with the Lord!!!

It shouldn't be surprising if we read the Scriptures, but it was for me and I believe is one of the least understood things in Christianity. That connection is sooo important that I stopped trying to focus on getting people healed and concentrated on just getting them hook up with the Lord, because I saw that the relationship would get them healed!!

Let me just go over a couple of verses that show this:

Ex 15:26 And He said, "If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the Lord your god, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statues, I will put none of these diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the Lord, and your healer

Jn 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life

So, based upon the verses above it is God who heals them provided they "earnestly heed" His voice, and His words that are spoken to them are spirit and are life. Thus when people came in for healing I would get them seeking the voice of the Lord and trying to listen to Him. That is; I would get them into a personal relationship with Him. That became my goal, because if what was written is correct, they would get healing and life by listening to Him!!!

So now - people would come in needing healing and I was going to try and hook them up with the voice of the Lord, thereby developing the relationship between them and the Lord and also getting them healing because they listen to His words to Him. The question then is how? How do you get people to listen to the Lord?

First, it was important to remember if I am going to try and get them to listen to the Lord I first must seeking His voice myself. This is sooo sooo important, if you are in this type of ministry. He will let you know how to proceed and when. Don't lean on your own understanding. Still, there were more common ways that we used, based upon His instructions.

Perhaps the most common way involves forgiveness. Most of us need to forgive people regularly. Using the Lord's pray in the morning should get you forgiving people everyday, but most of us Christians do not actually use the Lord's prayer like He told us. So it is not surprising that He often would have us lead people in forgiveness. In doing that we would have them ask the Lord if there was anyone they needed to forgive and listen to what He said. Notice the 'listen to what He said' part. That is the key, The forgiveness is very important, but the listening to His voice is more important than even the forgiveness because His words are spirit and are life, and because if we harken to His voice He will heal us!

So while there is also something about Him not forgiving us if we don't forgive others, we still need the healing and life which comes from His voice!!!!! The healing, the relationship, and the life all come from His voice. The forgiving may gets us to the point where we can receive it, but the receiving come from listen to Him.

So while I might know, based upon my listening to the Lord, that they needed to forgive someone, the important part was not that they forgave but that they sought Him for what He had to say about it!! If we don't understand this, we might the other person to try and forgive whoever they think they need to forgive. Doing that might help, but even that is leaning on our own understanding. We must seek the Lord for who we need to forgive.

His thoughts are not our thoughts. So often the person being ministered to was surprised by the Lord when they listen to Him. Often they would find out that they needed to forgive themselves if they listen to the Lord, but it is not usually something they usually come up with if they don't listen to the Lord.

Sometime people find out, because they seek His voice, that they need to forgive Him. Of course He didn't do something wrong, but He made them and He put them here on earth which can and will put us in hurtful situations. People often start blaming God for their basic situation here on earth, so they need to forgive Him so they can get that personal relationship going with the Lord.

And there is also an evangelist with cystic fibrosis--I can't recall his name, whose catch phrase at the end of an evangelistic sermon was, "I have cystic fibrosis. What is your excuse?"

How do you address situations where healing does not occur?

Great question!!

One of the reason for focusing on the relationship with the Lord is that with it comes understanding.

Prov 2:6 For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

The Lord does do healing. I have seen incredible miracles. However, He is still God and their are still reasons that we don't fully understand. Even listening to Him does not give a full understanding but it does give you understanding - meaning that you are not going to understand everything but you can come to understand that He does! That is what you really come to understand, that He is Understanding, not you. Listening to Him give you that understanding, because He will tell you things and as things come to pass you will see that He knew and understood even if you didn't fully understand even after hearing from Him.

Maybe that is still a little confusing - Consider what happens when someone tells you a story events that happened. You get an understanding of what happen but because you were not actually there your understanding is not like someone who was actually there and observed it. It is kind of like that. The Lord can tell you things, even things that will happen, but because you can't see it like Him you are not going to fully understand what is going to happen.

So back to the healing question. When we pray for healing and even listen to the Lord, things don't happen like we think. A number of things can be happening. The person could be healed but not know it yet. Or perhaps the person was starting to get healing, but it is just going to take some more time to complete. Or perhaps we are starting the process which starts the healing but we don't understand that. The important part again is working on the relationship.

I often have people ask the Lord if He is going to heal them, and have them listen. I might also have them ask if there is something they need to do to help, and listen.

Working in the healing ministry I was surprise how much healing we saw. Most people that came in for healing reported getting at least some healing, and by most at least over two thirds of the people. Now a lot of times we would see a progression. People would often come in week after week, for a while. It was wise for them to do that. I saw many people that would first come in for some fairly serious problem, get some healing then come back the next week hoping for more. Often then they would get more and some other things from the Lord. And after a couple more weeks they were completely healed and were starting to get other things from the Lord, like spiritual gifts, or relationships with others fixed, and any sort of other things.

So I guess the answer to "How do you address situations where healing does not occur?" is that I don't often take on that question! I have the Lord address that question with them. That is not completely true, because I do ask the Lord what I need to do when we don't get complete healing, also. But that is not to answer the question for the person, but to see what He needs me to do next.

See my next post - I'll give you a true testimony which I think might show how the relationship with Him is more important than the instant complete healing.

I have been healed twice. In the first instance I prayed for healing a few times. I was made aware the matter was resolved when addressing my condition to a prayer partner. I was told not to claim it anymore and that I’d been healed. There is no medical evidence of the diseases in my body.

The second instance was preemptive. I was told to pray against the spirit of infirmity before the malady arrived. One month later it happened. I was released from physical therapy on my third visit. Five remained. I went in laughing and left in the same state. The physician wished me well. That was a year agp.

I have the gift of discerning spirits. I experience them in five senses. I couldn’t help hearing Him. I’ve spent years in His presence and neither experience involved another.

It was His choice to heal me for His glory and the mission I’ve been given. But He doesn’t remove all maladies. However, we are given His strength to weather them.

I loved the above post. It shows the relationship and that is important. And yes we have five physical senses so we have five spiritual senses also, but primarily we see things about having eyes to see and ears to hear. Never-the-less, we can pick up things with our spiritual taste, touch, and smell also. It sometimes happen that we wind up talking to Him (praying) a "few times", and it could be that He asks us to pray before things happen. So again, the important thing is to keep in communication with Him. That - relationship - is what He wants and is important.

On that line - once I was asked to visit a home where a man was in bed with cancer. It was very bad and he was in much pain. When I got there his wife was trying to get in touch with me because the man was having a lot of pain that day. I got there right before she could get hold of me and tell me not to come. I told her that if he is having a lot of pain it was probably the best time for me to be there.

I asked the Lord how He wanted me to handle it and listened. He told me that He wanted to use her son, but I had not seen anyone else in the house. So I asked her if she had a son, and she did. I asked her if she could get the son, and she did. I was wondering the age of her son when he came down and looked to be at least in high school. Then the Lord asked me to anoint the son, which I did and I could tell the Lord really moved on him because he almost fell over, which kind of shocked the lady and me. Then the Lord wanted the son to anoint the lady, which he did and she almost fell over, which was even more amazing to her. You see she hadn't been to church, any church, from what she said. And her son had just recently come with a couple of friends to our church. Apparently the friends had set up the visit with her.

Next the Lord asked me (and again it is important listen to the Lord, and to take it step by step with the Lord) to ask the man where it was hurting then pray for that spot. The man said he hurt all over but also pointed to a number of places. Both the wife and the son were aware that he hurt in a number of places and that some were worse, because they both had suggestions. Again I asked the man where he thought it was worst. He said his left shoulder was particularly bad. I had him rate the pain there on a scale of 1-10 and he labeled it a nine.

So I prayed and asked Jesus to remove the pain, then asked the man again to rate the pain. He told me it was better and now about a 6. So I prayed again and asked, and he told me it was much better, maybe a 3. Then I heard the Lord tell me to have the son pick a spot and pray the same way. So I got him to pray over another spot of pain in the same say and got an even better result. Then the Lord had me ask the wife to do the same thing, and again the man reported a large decrease in pain. Then the Lord told me to leave.

I double checked with Him - "Lord you want me to leave already?" It seemed like a just got there, but He did indeed want me to go. He told me that I had shown them how to listen and pray so my work was done.

What I want to show is that He wants the relationship. He wants people seeking Him, talking to Him, and listening to Him. If we do that He will heal our land, which in that case was the house where the man laid in pain. They needed there land healed. They need to listen to the Lord and keep His commandments. My job in going there was to just get them going on it. Which is also the reason I am posting here.

When does healing NOT occur? I learned that healing can be gradual and take place over time. Even though God is the same we do change to become more the people that God always intended for us to become. David tells us that God writes the book of our life before we are even born. The resurrection power of God should already be at work in our life to raise us up from the dead.

smell also.
Interesting that you add this as almost an after thought, but with God this is the most important.

Revelation 8:3
Then another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, along with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar before the throne.

How do you address situations where healing does not occur?

This has bugged me a bit lately. I don't think we necessarily have an answer.

Last March I was miraculously cured of a cyst on my spinal column that pressed against the sciatic nerve, causing incredibly intense pain. The pain was so intense, that it had brought me to my knees several times in public--it was like being repeatedly stabbed in the back when a paroxysm hit. I'd been prescribed pain meds to to where my doctor said it was time to look at surgery. The cyst was clear on the MRI--about the size and shape of an almond.

My doctor, a neurosurgeon, and an orthopedic surgeon all said the same thing: The cyst was caused by movement between two vertebrae. The cyst needed to be removed as well as the disc between the vertebrae, then the vertibrae needed to be fused with metal bars and screws.

So I had surgery scheduled for April 5, a few months ago. Because of my age and the extent of surgery, all the doctors agreed I'd be on opiods for two weeks after the surgery and on morphine for another two weeks after that. I'd be on a walker for at least a month, and I wouldn't be able to leave the house for a month.

My doctor told me that a successful surgery would probably bring my pain down 70%, where medication would be effective. He also told me that it was very possible the surgery could cause even worse pain and not change the situation at all.

My manager's wife had been through several back surgeries--without good results. They are Christians, and they had kind and supportive words for me.

But then, I got healed. I've posted about that in these forums. Prayer for healing on Friday, March 22, and by the next Tuesday I realized the pain was absolutely gone. I cancelled the surgery date.

My doctor didn't quite believe the "miracle" stuff, but he said the the only objective of surgery was to relieve the pain...if I didn't have pain, I didn't need surgery.

But...how does this square with what my manager's wife has gone through. And other brothers and sisters who have had server chronic illnesses that we've prayed together about?

I don't really know.

I am happy to hear the Lord heard your prayer and you’re pain free! :)

I have spoken of a second ailment that He prompted me to pray about before it manifested. It was my back. One morning I awakened and had no mobility. I collapsed on the floor.

The pressure on my spine was hindering my movements. I was forced to use my upper body. Much like those in a wheelchair. But I couldn’t lift myself up when laying down, turn over, climb in bed, or use the restroom without assistance. I was helpless and a fall risk. I couldn’t return home.

The MRI revealed the problem. Ortho said they’d try an injection before operating. I’d need physical therapy too and there was no guarantee I would be pain free. Many continue receiving them.

I went home with a walker. But I stepped out of the taxi on my own and never used it. I didn’t complete my therapy and neurology released me. It’s been over a year now.

I resumed my workouts one month later. I didn’t take it easy. I put on Daily Burn and started dancing. Then I did it the next day and so on just to be certain it wasn’t a fluke. Here’s a few screenshots. My family celebrated the fulfillment of His promise. I was truly healed.

14C8724E-B55C-4FCB-97CB-F792AEC3D6B6.png 35D15C83-044E-4ABE-A8F0-BFED9942AC12.png 72B1B0A6-4C91-4BD4-9DE4-54AE8C9F8960.png

God’s ways are perfect. He removes some ailments and provides His grace to weather those He doesn’t heal for reasons no one can say.

Kara Tippets had a painful battle with cancer. He took her away. Her babies lost their mother. To say He heals every infirmity is untrue. But her suffering ministered to many. It still affects me. Even now.

Thanks for this thread - I have seen beautiful healings also, yet struggle at 73 with various ailments.

Once in Jerusalem I was in pain walking as my hip socket was damaged from carrying heavy loads.

I attended a meeting on the Mt. of Olives run by Ruth Heflin and a guy from the US came up to me and prayed. Total healing resulted.

So my take on unanswered prayer for healing is that if you are surrendered to His will the remaining challenges are appointed, but the issue will be addressed if it potentially hinders your service.

At the end of the day, healing is no issue to Him - but unbelief can hinder your receiving it.

The most fundamental element to our faith is the belief that He can create something out of nothing.

That is what healing is.

That is what the resurrection is all about.
