The protests reportedly concern Father Kuforiji's decision to remove unauthorized changes to the liturgy which had become common in the parish over previous years, and to take down a sign at the entrance to the church saying "Immigrants and Refugees Welcome."

So they are protesting because they want innovations like additions after the Creed, rainbow bordered vestments, and refusing to show proper respect at the moment of Consecration... They were all instituted by a former Pastor whose faculties were withdrawn by the diocese because he was a molester.

Does not make a lot of sense does it?

They obviously do not understand or care how things operate in their own Church.
And the entire choir quit because they weren't allowed to sing folk songs that didn't belong at Mass anyway.

I think that is the whole problem in a nut shell: they see the church as theirs, when actually it belongs to God. And that's revolting

Good for the Priest. If the laity want all those innovations then they might as well go protestants

It makes perfect sense. An alien religion has taken control there and the Christian faith has been missing for years. The re-introduction of the authentic faith shouldn't be expected to be very popular with these folks. It would be easier to introduce the Catholic faith to a bunch of Baptists than re-introduce it to this bunch.

I find it sadly amusing about their banners that proclaim a welcome to foreigners and then they reject their new African priest.

It just depends who is welcome or not. People and things must bow before the ideology or they are not welcome.

But he's not, for them, the right kind of foreigner. He insists on exercising The authority his ordination gives him rather than playing a folk song and letting them be paternalistic in feeling how wonderfully charitable they are in civilizing him to their enlightened mass.

Parishioners of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in the Archdiocese of Portland staged a protest against their pastor during a June 30 Mass.

The Oregonian uploaded a video of the protests Aug. 11. The video shows elderly parishioners dressed in white, carrying signs into the assembly during the Eucharistic consecration, and attempting to shout down the pastor, Father George Kuforiji, during the Mass. Other parishioners are shown looking visibly uncomfortable at the disturbance.

Anathema!

I saw the video, they should be flogged the lot of them!

"For the time is coming when men will not tolerate wholesome teaching. They will want something to tickle their own fancies, and they will collect teachers who will pander to their own desires. They will no longer listen to the truth, but will wander off after man-made fictions."
