First I want to say that Donald J. Trump was not my first, second, third or whatever choice to be the GOP nominee in 2016. I didn't really rank the candidates but, if I had, early on I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have been in my top 10. There was never any question that Hillary would be the Democrat nominee so I wasn't even watching that race all that closely.

But as the campaign progressed, I began to gain a sense that there was something different in this election. ALL the other 16 GOP candidates and all the Democrat candidates were proper, orthodox candidates. Most candidates in both campaigns were members of the professional permanent political class, scripted, poll tested, politically correct, groomed, and trained with all the proper catch words and phrases for the task of winning an election.

And then there was Donald J. Trump. Unpolished. Unorthodox. Sometimes vulgar, sometimes profane, certainly no Cicero as an orator, speaking with a distinct Queens (NYC) accent, unpolished, sometimes seemingly unprofessional, speaking with partially expressed thoughts or incomplete sentences, twice divorced, and with a past that could easily be exploited for negatives. Pretty much nobody gave him a snowball's chance in Hell to even place in the nominations, much less be elected.

But somewhere in all that, millions of Americans began to sense something different. This man was no partisan, no ideologue, not a member of the permanent political class. But he offered a vision and sensible goals to achieve it that we had not heard from any candidate maybe in our entire lifetimes. And we began to respond to it.

And finally, in the end, enough of us voted for that vision to put him in the White House. There he has been unorthodox, sometimes petulant, sometimes saying things that are positively cringeworthy. Sometimes he is not likable. But he has kept campaign promises to a greater extent maybe than any politician ever. He has not disappointed. And I think he will have earned a second term.

So I am aware many of you do not approve of, like, or respect this President. But I suspect many here do.

For those who do respect President Trump's vision, what he has accomplished, what he still hope to accomplish, this is your thread. Please those who just want to bash or criticize the President use one of many other threads for that. This one is to appreciate President Trump.

Thank you for your courtesy in advance.

The one thing I think I appreciate most about President Trump is that people I know and care about who needed good jobs for a very long time were able to find them once President Trump's economic policies kicked in. And empty commercial buildings are now bustling with new businesses that moved in and construction around here is amazing. This despite being in one of the most business unfriendly states in the country.

But I also deeply appreciate a President who loves his country, respects the flag and what it stands for, who isn't afraid to say things that need to be said--this in addition to some things he probably should have left unsaid :) --and who openly expresses devotion to God and does nothing to discourage or hinder free expression of religious faith.

Exactly. I had no inclination to even listen to Mr. "You're fired". I liked his show, but didn't take him seriously at all. THEN, as you said, as he stood on stage with all those many Republican candidates, he caught my ear, and then i really began listening. He was speaking of issues no other candidate would touch with a 10 foot pole. I listened even more intently, as the other candidates began falling like flies, one-by-one, with their scripted, cookie-cutter responses, Ad nauseam. Sickening.

Trump was fearlessly going where no other candidate DARED go hahaaa. it was like a breath of fresh air. He was not PC. As a matter of fact he was the complete antithesis to it. And i believe that he entered this arena with full knowledge of the tsunami and then some of the storms of resistance and rage that would be un-leashed against anyone who took the stances he dared to take.

Trump is the ONLY one who COULD take them on.

And by golly he did.

By the way, he's from NYC. You can't expect to slam a New Yorker and not get slammed back. LOL!

I agree. As I posted to Allen, he is an imperfect person who is perfect for this time in American history.

I believe some of our members here are missing the point to this thread however, and I wish they would exercise some Christian charity and do their Trump bashing on threads designed for that.

You don't have to wonder about where President Trump stands - he'll tell you bluntly. I appreciate all of the good things he's done for this country, and I like the respect he's shown to this country. I really like his respect for the Flag and for those who serve under it. In short - I like him.

This thread is for appreciation--not flames, slamming, oblique slams or snarky comments. If you do not have anything positive to say, don't post.
Also FYI it's Democratic party, not Democrat Party. The misspelling is derogatory.

Trump kinda reminds me of TR. When he was nominated to the McKinley ticket it was said:
"Don't any of you realize there's only one life between that madman and the Presidency?"--Republican National Chairman Mark Hanna, as TR was nominated for vice-president.
I like the fact that Trump keeps both parties off their feet....

I appreciate his stance for the unborn, his strong borders vision, re holding the military.

I like that he allows military commanders to do their job.

I appreciate how he handled ISIS in the short time it took.

I appreciate his helping the middle class with is tax cuts and eliminating the tax penalty for not being able to afford health care.

I appreciate the respect he gives military and first responders.

He's made such egregious missteps in policy and political discourse that he's drawn attention to much longer-standing shortcomings of the United States' institutions as compared to the rest of the world, and he has energized his opposition to push for more ambitious progressive reform than was ever thought possible even under Democratic leadership. I don't think we would see as strong a sense of urgency for universal healthcare, a living wage, and the Green New Deal that we see today if Trump weren't such a monstrous failure, so I have to thank him for that.

This is something I genuinely appreciate about him. He's mobilized the social democrats better than anyone else has been able to. That's not a flame or insult, just a fact.

That's the thing. He seems to be resented and opposed equally by the permanent political class in both parties. Which makes him the first truly independent President we have ever had. :)
