Welcome to being a guy!

Srsly tho, it's an affliction common to all, even among grownups.

Something to consider is that maybe you should approach her and see if she's interested in dating you. What do you have to lose, eh?

It helps if you cut out lust in other areas where you do have control, like inappropriate content. If you stay away from inappropriate content (even softcore), repent (to God) for your previous involvement in it,* you will stop objectifying women that you meet in real life as much.

Is the woman in question a person that you know, or an inaccessible celebrity? If it is someone that you know, and she is eligible, you may actually have marital inclinations toward her which is different than lust, and could be honorable. It is difficult to tell the difference sometimes.

*See PM for more.

Well, whenever I feel that way about someone I always just think about their spiritual condition and whether or not they know Jesus. Imagining someone burning in hell takes away the immediate attraction and makes them a lot more serious to me than superficial looks and feelings.

Hi @Jags, whenever you begin to think about this person in an inappropriate way, take that thought captive immediately and hand it over to the Lord to deal with .. 2 Corinthians 10:5. If you allow the thought to go too far however, repent and ask Him to forgive you, and He will .. 1 John 1:9. Then get up and get back to your walk with Him, knowing that you are forgiven (because that's what God told you He would do :preach:).

Also, choose to begin to see her for what she is, your sister in Christ (which I'm assuming that she is, yes?), and pray for her, especially for her walk with the Lord. And ask the Him to help you do just that (see her for who she is) when you pray to Him about her.

The Lord has given us many ways to stay strong in Him and to lead a prosperous and joyful life before Him as well, even in the face of temptation, so why not trust Him and give His way a try? .. e.g. Joshua 1:8; Psalm 1:1-3; 119:9-11, Romans 12:2; 1 Corinthians 10:13; 2 Corinthians 10:5; 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

Remember that we Christians need to guard (not follow) our hearts, and treasuring His word in our hearts is the best way to do that :) (see more about how to do that below).

Praying for you!

--David
p.s. - I had a HORRIBLE thought life when I first became a Christian (it was a carryover from the very sinful life that I lead in my 20's). The principle Christian disciplines helped (Bible study, prayer, fellowship and witnessing), of course, but it wasn't until I began to truly treasure His word in my heart (by memorizing it) that I was finally set free from my seemingly endless and painful thought-life.

Memorization work is just that, work (especially at first), and it's not the easiest thing to do, but I think that you'll quickly find that it's worth FAR more than any amount of time and effort that you have to put into it.

Memorization fills your mind with God's word, and it (somehow) empties it of the stale, stinky garbage that's residing up there, and gives it no room to return :oldthumbsup: It also makes it much harder to sin, because as soon as a temptation comes your way and you think about sinning, the Holy Spirit hits you will 2-3 of your memorized verses to remind you why you shouldn't ;)

So, if you get tired of the way things are going, let me know and I'll help you get started (if you'd like me to). Just FYI, I use the Navigator's Topical Memory System (the system that they've been training their overseas missionaries with for about 90 years now .. now made even easier and better than before as an App).

Philippians 4
8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

I can't seem to stop lusting about someone that I think of everyday is there anything that can help me forget about the lust about that Person?

Some things you may try

Do a search on the sayings of the desert fathers. These are very old stories from the earliest days of Christendom about the lives of monastics and hermits and the different things they did to discipline their lives. They have varying degrees of applicability to non-monks, as we can't simply cloister ourselves and have to live our lives...but you may find some wisdom in them. Keep in mind that these stores are 1000-1500 years old in many cases and come from a different time and place so some may sound a little (or a lot) foreign to our ears.

When you are afflicted in this way, mentally put a stop to the thought and substitute the prayer: "God, thank you for creating someone this beautiful, and bless them as they go about their day." This bit of wisdom comes from the desert fathers. This will help turn the evil to good and reorient that person in your mind as God's child, not just an attractive person. Right think to vanquish wrong think.

Fasting

Finally, end your day with the following prayer:

"0 Lord, Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, show compassion and have mercy on me Thy sinful servant, and loose me from mine unworthiness, and forgive all wherein I have sinned against Thee today as a man, and not only as a man, but even worse than a beast, my sins voluntary and involuntary, known and unknown, whether from youth, and from evil suggestion, or whether from brazenness and despondency. If I have sworn by Thy name, or blasphemed it in my thought; or grieved anyone, or have become angry about anything; or have lied, or slept needlessly, or if a beggar hath come to me and I disdained him; or if I have grieved my brother, or have quarreled, or have condemned anyone; or if I have been boastful, or prideful, or angry; if, as I stood at prayer, my mind hath been distracted by the wiles of this world, or by thoughts of depravity; or if I have over eaten, or have drunk excessively, or laughed frivolously; if I have thought evil, seen the beauty of another and been wounded thereby in my heart; if I have said improper things, or derided my brother's sin when mine own sins are countless; if I have been neglectful of prayer, or have done some other wrong that I do not remember, for all of this and more than this have I done: have mercy, 0 Master my Creator, me Thy downcast and unworthy servant, and loose me, and remit, and forgive me, for Thou art good and the Lover of mankind, so that, lustful, sinful, and wretched as I am, I may lie down and sleep and rest in peace. And I shall worship, and hymn, and glorify Thy most honorable name, together with the Father and His Only-begotten Son, now and ever, and unto the ages."

Best wishes.

Christian Advice Statement of Purpose
Christian advice is defined as advice which contains basic Christian principles that do not conflict with the site's Statement of Faith. We would ask that members direct their responses to the member who started the thread and refrain from debating one another's theological beliefs and viewpoints. Do not use this forum to debate with other Christians as that is not the purpose of the Christian Advice forum. If members would like to discuss/debate specific Christian theological doctrines, they should do so in one of the Theology forums.

All advice should be given in the spirit of love and humility, extending grace and respect towards one another in an effort to encourage and uplift the member seeking advice. We would like this forum to remain a safe place where Christians can request advice from other Christians without fear of being attacked. With this in mind, posts that chastise or belittle another member will be deleted and the member may be banned from the thread. Posts that debate rather than advise will also be deleted and the member may be banned from the thread. If you are banned from a thread and would like to discuss the situation with an Administrator, please open a ticket in support.
