I think it's important not to downplay what Kim and Donny have learned from their playtime. Any learning is good, right?

They have learned -

Saying nice things and making empty gestures is WAY better than all of that boring diplomacy stuff.

You can take credit for anything and blame any bad stuff on anyone you like. You don't even have to try and make it believable - great! No thinky brain hurty stuff.

If you wait long enough, the adults will get home, and you can just sit back and whine about what they do next. You'll be amazed how you can just like say stuff and people won't even question it.

The leader of North Korea is insane. He kills his own family and his opponents. He tortures his own people for watching outside media or for even reading the bible. Trump describing what was written by a psychopath as a "beautiful letter" is an indication of Trump's mental status.

And yet despite all of Kim's obvious dark nature (killing his family and opponents, torturing people), he took the time to say some very nice things about Donald that apparently flattered him enough for him to overlook Kim's dark nature and sway over the beautiful letter he received from Kim.

It is a "power" marriage. They have agreed to not compete directly for customers and wealth. Trump has agreed to share his NK profits in private ways into the future. Kim has agreed that minimal rockets exploding will boost future tourism and industrial income.

Donald literally treats a murderous, torturing sociopath with catastrophic nuclear capabilities better than he does American citizens he's seen as a rival or who have in any form criticized him. He just attacked the leaders of cities grieving shooting massacres on account of small criticism of him. He was nasty to them. Turns around and boasts about the "beautiful love letters" from the head of a country that publicly executes its citizens if they find a way to watch American TV shows.

Not only is he being kinder, he's given a tremendous gift to this evil man by providing him with photo ops, clips of his praises, that will be used for propaganda.

The answer is no, Bob. Lucy tricks Charlie Brown every single time. He never gets to actually kick the football. He just falls on his butt.

Football gag

The characters involved in the gag are Charlie Brown and Lucy van Pelt. Lucy tells Charlie Brown that she will hold a football while he comes running up and kicks it. Charlie Brown usually refuses to kick it at first, not trusting Lucy. Lucy then says something to persuade Charlie Brown to trust her. Beautiful letters from a brutal dictator don't negate the fact that North Korea continues to test its missiles - when Dan Coates, the Director of National Intelligence, made the cardinal error of contradicting Trump's version of events, he was forced out of office and replaced by a "yes man" who will dutifully tell this President what he wants to hear, instead of what he needs to know!

No, what I'd like is some real progress happening and I'd like for President Trump (and his base) to stop pretending they're making some. Fawning over dictators and disparaging our allies isn't progress. No matter how much they want to pretend it is.

That N Korea guy is paranoid, best to keep him talking even if nothing happens, which is better than something happening like a war.

I do also hate what these N Korean leaders have done to the people in their own country.
But our country is our own country not their country.
Prefer to not be involved in overseas wars at all, if possible. We have enough local conflict, difference of opinions here already.

I recall Trump telling Kim to allow real market reforms and lighten up the heavy hand on the people, and N Korea could become very prosperous, and tourism and all that goes with that, the west was willing to invest real money. But of course that is so against the mindset of their leader who is treated like a god, he can never make such a transition. Whole country is built on lies, and oppression and abuses. Just like Hitler could not be changed, neither can Kim, but maybe he can be contained, so that is the strategy, do the best good you can do in the situation, while attempting to slow down the bad things that could happen.
