can you recommend bee friendly plants to me?

Yarrow, sweet alyssum, bee balm (monarda didyma), any of the sedums such as 'Autumn Delight' - really any plant that smells sweet (promising nectar) and has many small flowers. You don't say where in NY you live, but these are wide ranging and easily available.

Is your yard sunny, shady, damp or dry?

I would ask the bees. Especially the Capital Bees as they are more knowledgeable than the lower case bees.

Flowers and trees with blossoms, et al ....

I wish I knew the name of the daisy-like wildflower that grows here. The white flowers are small but plentiful on fast-growing large shrubby plants. They are essentially a weed, but aren't ugly. The bees love them so much it's almost impossible to pull them from my flowerbeds (constantly covered in bees).

I get a TON of bee activity on my lavender flowers.

I have a Russian Sage that is the envy of my bee-loving friends. A friend was in my backyard in early November and said "There are more bees on that thing right now than I had in my yard the entire summer!" It is an absolute bee magnet.

I got A lavender plant at Home Depot. They had bee's all over them. I get them home. Now the wasp gives them attention.
