Forgive, all. When I posted the link to that icon, I didn't understand the full weight and meaning behind it. Once you read about St. Maria, and her personal beliefs on the Theotokos things make much more sense. I found this article to be of help with that (especially starting at the second paragraph of pg. 186):
I read that section and then the next several pages — beautiful stuff, and something I really appreciate and resonates with me. (Interestingly, my Marian love developed towards the end of my days in Lutheranism, though still solidly Lutheran, not out of my increasingly Orthodox leanings. Mary was one of my biggest hold-ups with Orthodoxy.) I’ll have to read the rest of this tomorrow. Thanks for sharing it
