This seems to contradict the narrative.
That most mass shootings are committed by right wing white supremacists.Which narrative?.....that is primarily white supremacists commiting these shootings?....or there have been more mass shootings than the days so far in this year?....or others?
It's really tough to keep track of when gang gun violence is important to people.
It'd be great if they cared all the time.
I personally look at Chicago and Baltimore, etc, the way I look at the Middle East: If you all want to murder each other, go ahead. Here the US, they reject the police; abroad they reject Western intervention. So, whatever. That’s why I’ve taken to everyone concerned about Chicago this week as tourists. They only see to worry about it after mass shootings or when they can use the city as a political punching bag. Real odd how they never seem to offer real solutions other than arm everyone to the teeth. Because as we all know, war zones where everyone is armed are known for their high levels of safety.
Well, when you live in a war zone you better be armed otherwise you are just a casualty........That’s why I’ve taken to everyone concerned about Chicago this week as tourists. If you really took the time to read my comment you would understand it was a response to your 'war zone' comment in general. I couldn't care less about Chicago......I live in Chicago. It is not a war zone. Whoever told you that lied to you. I travel through one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city on a daily basis. Have feared for my life more in a few rural places than I ever have in Chicago.
Our relatively brief overview of the alleged shooters included in the August 2019 meme indicates that it was broadly fairly accurate. It contained a few errors, but was faithful overall to its own criteria.
How you define a mass shooting also indirectly has a bearing on the demographic make-up of victims and perpetrators. For example, we know that criminal gangs in the United States are disproportionately made up of Latino and African American members. Including gang-related shootings in your definition of mass shootings will, therefore, increase the proportion of such perpetrators and victims in your count. That should not be surprising or controversial.
The FBI defines an “active shooter incident” (akin to a mass shooting) as an incident in which a perpetrator shoots dead three or more people (not including the perpetrator) in a single incident in a public place, which is unrelated to terrorism, gangs, and doesn’t take place in the course of some other criminal activity (like a robbery or fight).
By this definition, the Gun Violence Archive showed there were six such alleged incidents between Jan. 1 and Aug. 5, 2019:
All six suspects were men, three were white, two were African-American, and the precise racial and ethnic identity of the sixth suspect was not clear.
The problem Snopes has is the number of victims to be considered a mass shooting. The number is 4 regardless of whether or not they like it. They don't like it because it goes against the narrative.Does a Meme Show the Faces of Suspected Mass Shooters in U.S. in 2019?
Links are a good thing. The source gives context. In this case, the source is snopes.com -- not where it originated, but what I consider a reliable reference. They identify this as a meme that probably began on 4chan.
Snopes suggests the list is reasonably accurate given the definitition used, but suggests the "mostly black" list of perpetrators was achieved partly by choosing that definition, so the meme would be helpful to the white racists who spread it.
Snopes has an alternative idea about how "mass shootings" could be defined, if we were interested in the ones without obvious criminal or other motive. No one is without bias here; let's see if we can see the issue from multiple viewpoints.
Really feeling the love in this post.I personally look at Chicago and Baltimore, etc, the way I look at the Middle East: If you all want to murder each other, go ahead. Here the US, they reject the police; abroad they reject Western intervention. So, whatever.

It supports the narrative that the United States of America has more mass shootings in a year than all our peer countries combined do in multiple years.
