.50 Beowulf® - alexanderarms.com

The .50 Beowulf® was designed to generate devastating stopping power at short to moderate ranges. Combining the rugged reliability of the AR-15/M16 style weapons with a unique .500 inch projectile and cartridge, this semi-automatic weapon is ideal as a brush hunting weapon and is capable of knocking down virtually anything you may run across. For wild pig hunting, the rifle is without equal and is being used not only by hunters, but by game control agencies as well. Deer in close cover are easily taken with solid hits guaranteeing one shot kills and little or no tracking. The same reliable combination of heavy, large-diameter bullets and moderate velocities enable the .50 Beowulf® to tackle the largest game animals found in North America and it has been used against elk, buffalo, and bear with superb results.

.50 cal for a deer? Holy over kill batman.

Granted it would make gutting a great deal easier as you would just have to scoop what remained out of the exist wound.

Yes, pretty sure that gun is all about the overkill. But for feral hogs, it might work.

Bacon. Lots of bacon. The hogs are a real problem. I don't really see what's funny about it.
I can't eat that much bacon, and I don't have enough friends to eat it. I'm still imagining fending off thousands of rats from the dozens of dead hogs.

Then, again, I keep coming back to the subject of rats, for some reason.

I love how the Californian hogs respect state lines. Maybe you could just post signs "Welcome to Nevada" to keep them out of your yard.

I wish they all could be California...hogs.

Depends on where you're hunting, if you're in a "brushy/woody" area a heavier round is less likely to be deflected off course than a lighter round. Have seen deer with multiple wounds still walking/running cause someone used the wrong rounds in brushy/woody areas.

What's funny is the pathetic efforts at controlling them piggies (like the rats in Baltimore).

I suspect the best method is trapping. I know people who use huge cage traps that capture the whole herd at once.

There's also a poison feeder solution that looks promising.

How do they keep it from being non discriminant?

You really can't.

Best thing that people can do is put chemicals in the poison that will dye the fat or otherwise give anyone who brings the animal down some clue that the meat isn't safe to eat.

I would think that humans harvesting the pigs after being positioned would not be a priory concern, as Im going to guess it kills them in relatively short order, but rather the carry on effect of the now poisoned meat being consumed by other animals.

It happens that animals will get at poisoned food that has for whatever reason been left unattended.
