6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

Will you take of those JS glasses and read what that says!---Who are the dead??---Those that do not have the Holy |Spirit in their hearts. What do they do if they listen to the Holy Spirit?----they live. We die to sin, that is what baptism is. The death to sin and alive in Christ.

That does not say:

29 Else what shall we do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are we then baptized for the dead?

Paul was trying to convince people that there will be a resurrection and those people who are doing that obviously believe in a resurrection.

And you don't know what He said to them.

Jude 1:6
And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

All of us were dead!

Ephesians 2
1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead
in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
You said: "And you don't know what He said to them." It is pretty obvious that He preached the gospel to them, what else does Jesus Christ preach?

I believe this is what the verse is referring to:

(New Testament | 1 Peter 3:18 - 19)

18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

1Pe 3:19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
1Pe 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

Why don't you try reading the entire passage in context with correct meanings of words instead of with modern concepts that the Jews had no believe in?

First remember what the word spirit means and that is not some ethereal plasma floating around after death---it meant a breathing person, their mind, their feelings--Jesus preached to living persons who sometimes were disobedient to Him, God being long suffering as when He waited in the days of Noah for those people to obey Him, they would not. He gave them 120 years before the flood.
People constantly read this passage as if it is referring to dead bodies. It is not what the word spirit means. I posted this on another thread.
Spirit Definition and Meaning - Bible Dictionary

Ecc_9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

Joh_11:13 Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.

Jesus did not believe in the soul going to heaven or hell at death--followers of God are considered asleep until the resurrection. when He calls us back to life everlasting. Which I know is a whole other thread and there have been many on the state of the dead.

You think the gospel is Mormonism; it is NOT Mormonism. Yet that verse doesn't even use the word gospel. At death it is too late to change the choices you already made.

Jesus taught us many things and performed many miracles. And to those who loved themselves more that God He said:

John 8:44
Ye are of your father the devil

Not of his substance, but by imitation and example; and as being under his authority and influence, his instructions and directions, and ready to follow after him, and obey his commands; the word "your" is rightly supplied, and is in some copies...

You said: "Jesus did not believe in the soul going to heaven or hell at death" Yes He did:

(New Testament | Luke 16:19 - 24)

19 ¶ There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

This is from another thread:
For the love of God---read the definitions! You are relying on JS for salvation and truth and he has neither!!

Spirit prison is what everyone who is not a follower of God us in! Their minds are in prison until they are set free by God.The rich man and Lazarus was a parable, not a discourse on the state of the dead. Take the whole story, not just parts of it.

Luk 16:24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

You think a wet finger tip is going to offer relief?

Luk 16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
He also says:
Luk 16:26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

There is no 2 way communication with the dead.

Luk 16:27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
Luk 16:28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

And Jesus answers---
Luk 16:29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
Luk 16:30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
Luk 16:31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

Jesus says that his brothers have Moses and the prophets---that is whoim they should get their information from---and even if someone was RAISED FROM THE DEAD, they still would not listen. It doesn't say that a dead person can have communication with the living--they would have to be RAISED FROM THE DEAD first.

Jesus was right, a lot of people have died and been revived and a lot of people will not believe them.

I was---- twice. At around 28 and at 66 years of age. Both times--nothing seen after death. At 68 as I was dying I felt in the arms of God, saw nothing, then all went black.
Some people have longer NDEs than others. I have not had one, but one of my neighbors did.

I am grateful for Christ's preaching and I'll bet they were too:

(New Testament | 1 Peter 3:18 - 19)

18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

They were evil. If they were saved, they would not be in prison.

1 Peter 3
20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

Luke 16
19 There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and feasted sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and you are tormented.
26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they who would pass from here to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from there.
27

Are you trying to prove the Bible wrong? Don't you believe that Jesus preached to the spirits in spirit prison?
