I don't know about this but lack of a local cult is not necessary when the person has worldwide implications.

The personal spirituality thing seems a bit vague and actually odd given that it's all through his writings.

These things happen though sometimes St causes take centuries due to this kind of thing.

That was my first thought as well.

Apparently, there's a similar effort underway for J.R.R. Tolkien. I'm calling it now, I don't love their chances of success.
