View media item 61993Good morning my dear friends in Christ! 190802

Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.” - Ecclesiastes 2:11

Solomon gives us a pretty clear picture of a pessimist. The pessimist is defined as a person who habitually sees and attempts to find the worst of everything. Thomas, a disciple of Jesus, no doubt...

Solomon was his own worst enemy, as he had so many wives that he wanted to please, and thus turned from the God Who gave him the gift of wisdom. In his folly, he, in essence, stomped on that gift, as evidenced by his foolishness later in life. No WONDER he had no hope. He stomped on the One Who GIVES that hope.

Our hope comes from the living God. Without God's hope, we are ultimately the epitome of pessimism, because we are peering right smack into that darkness that stares back at us like a chasm of doom.

And that's because it is. Eternally.

There's no God there.

There's no hope there.

No WONDER they're pessimists.

Tragic.

Thank you for this profound food-for-thought on this cloudy and warm and humid Friday morning in August, brother.

God bless you.

So true Brinny. Solomon did not listen to God when he was told not to multiply horses (Deuteronomy 17:16) or wives (Deuteronomy 17:17) - he did both. How do you please a pagan wife without becoming somewhat pagan? You don't. To me, Solomon is one of the saddest stories in the Bible.

In Christ alone!
