Kamala Harris Campaign Blames Russia for Humiliation by Tulsi Gabbard

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA)’s campaign press secretary suggested Russia was behind Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) ... “Reporters writing their stories with eyes on the modern-day assignment desk of Twitter, read this: ‘The Russian propaganda machine that tried to influence the 2016 election is now promoting the presidential aspirations of a controversial Hawaii Democrat,'” he tweeted.
Because blaming Russians worked so well against Donald Trump I suppose.

LOL... this is a hilarious mistake by them. The Russian thing didn't hold true to Trump... but because they are all in, they have no choice but to blame the Russians for anything that doesn't go their way. I mean, it just isn't possible that Harris is the failure and hypocrite she was painted to be, right? :)

If the Russians are involved I can understand why: Gabbard proposes to bring our troops home and get out of the regime-change mentality (stay out of other countries' business).

One of the main historical gripes Russia has with the US is our intervention abroad - particularly in areas near Russia.

The only other response she had since the debate. Tulsi ripped her apart.

The agenda of the Russians is to “sow discord”. How better than to help another Hawaiian (via American Samoa) Presidential candidate. :ebil:

Plus, she’s Hindu! Probably does yoga!

Unsurprising.

Russia is interfering in politics around the world and effectively as well.

The sooner we stop calling their online presence 'trolls' and start calling it what it is, propaganda and espionage, the better.

Feb 2nd, 2019 article:

Several experts who track websites and social media linked to the Kremlin have also seen what they believe may be the first stirrings of an upcoming Russian campaign of support for Gabbard.

Since Gabbard announced her intention to run on Jan. 11, there have been at least 20 Gabbard stories on three major Moscow-based English-language websites affiliated with or supportive of the Russian government: RT, the Russian-owned TV outlet; Sputnik News, a radio outlet; and Russia Insider, a blog that experts say closely follows the Kremlin line.
...

Gabbard's most controversial position and the one where she's most in line with Russian interests is on Syria. She's accused the U.S. of pushing a policy of "regime change" wars and in January 2017, she met with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad in Syria on what she called a "fact-finding mission."

RT began defending Gabbard as soon as she announced.

Old news. ETA: And wing2000 winged in before me.

The CIA has called RT and Sputnik part of "Russia's state-run propaganda machine."

All three sites celebrated Gabbard's announcement, defended her positions on Russia and her 2017 meeting with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, and attacked those who have suggested she is a pawn for Moscow.

Apparently to you, not wanting Syria to become like Iraq, just another failed state, means being buddies with Assad. Also, intelligence agencies can lie, just like at Iraq’s alleged WMDs and the Gulf of Tonkin incident.

One suspects there might be a problem somewhere when the Russian supported candidate is making more sense than anyone else.

That didn't happen in 2016. And it's not happening now.

Do you actually think Assad needs to be overthrown? Sure, he is a bad guy, but deposing him will make Syria a failed state like Iraq and Libya.

That is immaterial to my point, which is that Russian propaganda has in fact been supporting Gabbard since she announced her candidacy.

Russian interference in elections around the world is a fact. It's not a conspiracy theory. It's not crying wolf. It's just the reality of a digital age. Russia spread misinformation on US social media, used troll accounts to stir up animosity over divisive issues (especially race issues), hacked the DNC and leaked damaging emails, all with the intention of benefiting Trump. Trump's campaign didn't do any of these things. They did know it was happening. They welcomed it, encouraged it (like that time Trump asked Russia to hack the DNC during a televised rally), and lied about it. (And attempted to illegally acquire information directly from Russians on at least one occasion.) This is all in the Mueller Report, which was far more critical of Trump than right-wing media wants people to think.

Again. This isn't crying wolf. This is what happened, well documented by US intelligence agencies and mainstream media.

Gabbard, at present, does not seem to be receiving this degree of help from Russia. They prefer her over the other candidates, but there are any number of reasons why this might be. It may also be Russia will step up their interference after a candidate is nominated.

I'm not denying that Russia sometimes interferes in foreign politics, but is that nearly as bad as the US overthrowing governments and causing chaos.

hacked the DNC and leaked damaging emails

like that time Trump asked Russia to hack the DNC during a televised rally
Trump's "maybe the Russians can find Hillary's emails" comment was clearly referring to Hillary using an unprotected, unsecured private server during her entire 4 years as Secretary of State. This was the same server from which she deleted the 33,000 emails. Trump began his comment by saying "If the Russians, the Chinese, or any other country HAS those emails, I'd love to see them." Notice he uses in current tense, not future tense. He wasn't asking them to do something in the future, despite the BBC's headline here. Common sense told him, and it has since been confirmed, that since every intelligence agency worth its salt had been intercepting her emails since almost day one, the Russians would have already had them somewhere in their files. So Trump sarcastically said maybe the Russians could find them (in their files). It was a dig at Hillary for compromising national security with her unprotected, unsecured, private server. He was not asking the Russians to hack the DNC server that had a completely different set of emails on it. if the DNC/Hillary campaign had not written emails about paying people to violently disrupt Trump rallies, and about Donna Brazile giving Hillary debate questions before the debate, and about rigging the primaries against Bernie, a hack by anyone on earth would not have mattered because there wouldn't have been anything there to be found. Even now, no one is saying the emails were forged. So, if it was the Russians who hacked the DNC, they "interfered" or "meddled" by revealing the truth about what the Democrats were doing to the American people.

If you want to learn why Russiagate is nonsense, I suggest you read up on WikiLeaks, Caitlin Johnstone, and Glenn Greenwald.

This is the Whataboutism fallacy. This thread is about Russia interfering in US elections. It is not about the US interfering in other governments.

(For the record, yes, the US doing those things is also wrong. You do know a person can disapprove of both, right?)

No, the emails weren't hacked
From the Mueller Report

Introduction to Volume I (page 1), emphasis mine:

The Russian government interfered in the 2016 presidential election in sweeping and systematic fashion. Evidence of Russian government operations began to surface in mid-2016. In June, the Democratic National Committee and its cyber response team publicly announced that Russian hackers had compromised its computer network. Releases of hacked materials-hacks that public reporting soon attributed to the Russian government-began that same month. Additional releases followed in July through the organization WikiLeaks, with further releases in October and November.

Executive Summary to Volume I (page 4), emphasis mine:

In March 2016, the GRU [General Staff of the Russian Army] began hacking the email accounts of Clinton Campaign volunteers and employees, including campaign chairman John Podesta. In April 2016, the GRU hacked into the computer networks of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and the Democratic National Committee (DNC). The GRU stole hundreds of thousands of documents from the compromised email accounts and networks. Around the time that the DNC announced in mid-June 2016 the Russian government's role in hacking its network, the GRU began disseminating stolen materials through the fictitious online personas "DCLeaks" and "Guccifer 2.0." The GRU later released additional materials through the organization WikiLeaks.

I trust the Mueller Report, written by a servant of the Justice Department highly respected by members across the political spectrum.

I do not trust an article from entertainment rag The Inquisitr, let alone one written a month before the election even happened.

I suggest you actually read Hillary's emails for yourself and find out Hillary is not who she says she is.
This is an Ad Hominem fallacy. Hillary Clinton's personal character is completely irrelevant to whether Russia hacked the DNC and released damaging emails.

So Trump sarcastically said maybe the Russians could find them (in their files).
The full statement Trump made on July 27, 2016, was, "Russia, if you're listening, I hope you're able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing."

Mueller Report, Russian Hacking and Dumping Operations (page 49), emphasis mine:

Within approximately five hours of Trump's statement, GRU officers targeted for the first time Clinton's personal office. After candidate Trump's remarks, Unit 26165 created and sent malicious links targeting 15 email accounts at the domain [REDACTED] including an email account belonging to Clinton aide [REDACTED]. The investigation did not find evidence of earlier GRU attempts to compromise accounts hosted on this domain. It is unclear how the GRU was able to identify these email accounts, which were not public.

Trump made his statement after it had already been made known to him that Russia was actively interfering in the US election to benefit him. For example, he made his statement nearly two months after his campaign's June 9, 2016, meeting with Russian officials at Trump Tower, which was arranged specifically to get "dirt" on Clinton. That meeting allegedly produced no such "dirt", but it sent the message very clearly to Trump that Russia wanted him to win and was not above engaging in illegal activity to benefit him.

This is what is meant when it is said that Trump and his campaign did not do any of the hacking or leaking, but they knew it was happening and encouraged it.

NBC News, to Claim Russia Supports Tulsi Gabbard, Relies on Firm Just Caught Fabricating Russia Data for the Democratic Party

"NBC NEWS PUBLISHED a predictably viral story Friday, claiming that “experts who track websites and social media linked to Russia have seen stirrings of a possible campaign of support for Hawaii Democrat Tulsi Gabbard.”

But the whole story was a sham: The only “expert” cited by NBC in support of its key claim was the firm New Knowledge, which just got caught by the New York Times fabricating Russian troll accounts on behalf of the Democratic Party in the Alabama Senate race to manufacture false accusations that the Kremlin was interfering in that election."

I'm not going to say it's impossible that Russia does like Gabbard...

But as to "experts" delivering news of their "expertise" on such things....I'm afraid I'm reluctant to believe it when they leave out the names and credentials of these experts. After all, the Democratic party engages in its own form of propaganda.
