In the Book of Ecclesiastes,'The Author:Solomon of Jerusalem,King David's son,'The Preacher',"In my opinion,nothing is worthwhile. Everything is futile' (Ecclesiastes 1:1-2) Without Christ,life is meaningless. In Christ there is purpose and direction. Jesus said,'I am the Way,the Truth and the Life' (John 14:6)

True purpose is found in Him!

'I,the teacher,was King of Israel and I lived in Jerusalem. I devoted myself to search for understanding and to explore by wisdom everything being done under heaven. I soon discovered God has dealt a tragic existence to the human race. I observed everything going on under the sun and really it is all meaningless,like chasing the Wind' (Ecclesiastes. 1:12-14) Life without Christ Jesus as Saviour and Lord is meaningless. Jesus came that we may have life in all its' fullness!

'What is wrong cannot be righted. It is water over the dam and it is no use thinking of what might have been. I said myself,"Look I am better educated than any of the kings before me in Jerusalem. I have greater wisdom and knowledge. So I worked hard to be wise instead of foolish,but now I realise that even this was like chasing the wind. For the greater my wisdom the greater my grief. To increase knowledge only increases distress' (Ecclesiastes 1:15-17) Without Christ life is meaningless and chasing the wind. Man needs the Saviour!

What good does it do to seek pleasure?" After much thought I decided to cheer myself with wine and while still seeking wisdom,I clutched at foolishness. In this way I tried to experience the only happiness most people find in their brief life in this world' (Ecclesiastes 2:1-3) 'Only Christ can satisfy!'

'I also tried to find meaning by building huge homes for myself and by planting beautiful vineyards. I made gardens and parks,filling them with all kinds of fruit trees. I built reservoirs to collect the water to irrigate many flourishing groves. I bought slaves,both men and women and others were born into my household. I also owned large herds and flocks,more than any of the kings who had lived in Jerusalem before me. I collected great sums of silver and gold,the treasures of many kings and provinces. I hired wonderful singers,both men and women and had many beautiful concubines. I had everything that a man could desire!' (Ecclesiastes 2:4-8)

There is a fountain, that frees the soul from sin
Come to these waters; there is a vast supply
There is a river, that never shall run dry.

A meaningful life.....

My home on earth is only a temporary one and, one day, all my wealth, material possessions, pursuits and even my body will return to dust.

My life in Christ is eternal. It is a home of joy, bliss, peace and total liberation. In heaven we will never grow old and nothing we enjoy will ever wither or decay. It will last for ever.

Our life on earth is choir practice for heaven. We should spend all our efforts loving and serving others that they may know come to know Christ.

We will be spending all of our time loving God and loving others in heaven.

And as you said earlier, we will all be reunited one day with the ones we love - it will be a time of immense happiness and joy.

(Ecclesiastes 2:9-11) continues,'So I became greater than all that had lived in Jerusalem before me and my wisdom never failed me. Anything I wanted I could take. I denied myself no pleasures. I even found great pleasure in hard work,a reward for all my labours. But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish,it was all so meaningless,like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere' (Without Christ nothing is worthwhile)
