How many Africans did Reagan send to interment camps and when did Reagan reinstitute segregation into the military? Why not say a word or two about FDR's or Woodrow Wilson's real life racist actions rather than concentrate on some ignorant verbal remark?

Because it ALL matters, and some people can only handle small doses of reality, especially if they realize they have been complicit, or actively participating in the subjugation of another. And, people have a tendency to call uneasily digested information lies as a defense mechanism.

People run away from solid truth because it convicts people: they either vehemently reject it, or accept it. Talking about something as mundane as presidential racism needs to be spoon fed so the ignorant can participate without being threatened and ultimately abandoning it all.

You have to be careful when taking to other fragile-ego, emotional humans.

Some good advice for every conversation. Ecclesiastes 10:20 "Do not revile the king even in your thoughts, or curse the rich in your bedroom, because a bird in the sky may carry your words, and a bird on the wing may report what you say."

The birds are in the walls, TVs, and other electronics already.

Don't FEAR your government!

He called Africans monkeys.

You should hear what my grandmother use to call Black people, Are you going to walk all over her grave for it?

My own grand mother.

No one is perfect, and I am sure you have called others names in your life also.

Maybe your grandmother was racist, too.

No one is perfect, and I am sure you have called others names in your life also.

Are you at least conceding that your initial description of the recording was wholly inaccurate?

And nothing bad you ever said about others also in your own words will never go above reproach.

There where billions of racists, get over it already, we live in a different world today.

...or maybe you should re-consider the question he asked. Are you going to walk all over her grave for it?

Very racist, very

Sow what now? you want to walk over her grave to?

No, I have no desire to do that. You're the one who brought her into this.

But given the near-sainthood that's been bestowed upon Reagan by the republican party, I don't think it's wholly inappropriate to point out examples that counter that narrative.

And no, i will not trash a dead mans memory for you.

I didn't ask you to trash anybody. I asked you to acknowledge your earlier error.

You're the one who brought her into this.

You bet I did, and She was a real racist, I know what a real hate filled racist, is, God bless her soul and God forgive her heart. So do not tell me what racist is, i'm a expert.

But given the near-sainthood that's been bestowed upon Reagan by the republican party

So you are trashing a dead mans memory for politics? How dare you all.

I didn't ask you to trash anybody. I asked you to acknowledge your earlier error.

For what reason? to trash his memory for politics.

No, actually, because I appreciate it when the people who communicate here do so in a way that is clear and honest. When they make errors and those errors are pointed out, I expect them to acknowledge it. Opinions and disagreements are fine; misreporting facts is not.

But to put a finer point on it - I'm sick of people trying to gaslight me. People do it in person; people do it on here. And I'm tired of it. I'm not allowed to call people on here liars, but I do intend to call them out in a rule-abiding way that makes clear to everybody how honest those individuals are (or are not).

Nobody put a gun to your head and forced you to post a bunch of falsehoods. You could've quite easily just passed this thread on by or said something to the effect of "this is inappropriate". But you didn't; you repeatedly described Reagan's comments in a manner that was entirely incorrect. I don't know whether your initial comments were borne out of a genuine misunderstanding or a misguided attempt to defend a dead guy, but your continued refusal to acknowledge your error is quickly eroding whatever benefit of the doubt I (and I assume others) may have extended you.

What false hoods?

As I've already said - your grossly inaccurate descriptions of Reagan's comments. Literally nothing you said about them was correct.

I never lied, I did listen to the tapes, what I WROTE, I HOLD TO STILL.

I didn't say you lied. I said you were wrong. If you truly believe what you wrote, my best guess is that you mixed up who was speaking. Here's what I wrote earlier:

If you follow the links in the Atlantic piece, they take you to Nixon recording 013-008, which is the entirety of this phone call between Reagan and Nixon:
Conversation 013-008 | Richard Nixon Museum and Library

The relevant section about "monkeys" starts at 6:30. Reagan, not Nixon, was the one who steered the conversation back to the Africans at the UN. Reagan, not Nixon, was the one who made that comment. Unless you just mixed up who was speaking, there's no possible way to listen to that recording and honestly come to the interpretation you did.

Perhaps if you re-listen to the relevant section, you can see what I'm talking about.

That's your own interpretation to not knowing what racist is.

*sigh* Really?

He called African people "monkeys". If you're gonna deny that that's racist, then I don't know what to tell you. That's about as extreme a case of denialism as I've ever seen. You might as well tell people that the sky is green and the moon is made of cheese.

But I wasn't even so much talking about interpretation of the word as racist, as I was your description of his participation in the conversation:

I listened to each recording.

And as soon as they bring up race or anything hate, he just laughs and ends the conversation.

That's not racist, its uncomfortable.

No, i listened to the recordings.

He said no such thing, He agreed only.

You need to go listen to all the tapes.

And when he said the words Africans monkeys, He stumbled in a unconformable way.

^^^That description is entirely false. He did nothing of the sort. If anything, one could argue that it was Nixon who changed the subject (that would be a weak argument, but is closer to being true than what you wrote).

*sigh* Really?

Yes, realy.

Yes, and my grandmother wished black people dead right in front of them, praied for them to die, wished for them to never have ever existed.

She said and did the most hate filled things to others out of real racism. And i still love her fully. To no account.

You have no clue what your talking about.

I have lived it.

I will never speak of the things i have heard and seen.

Calling people names is not racist, it is free speaking to look good in front of others.

He did not hate black people, he did good things for them.

My grand mother would have killed them.

You have no clue at all.

There are skin heads that are truly racist and will gladly on camera not only call names, but kill them just out of hate.

Now, that, is racist.

I really don't care about your grandmother. I care a lot more about people about people pushing falsehoods and then refusing to acknowledge their errors.
