I don't think there is any question that meeting someone online is the norm, not the exception or "odd" way.

Orthodox or not, I think this should be a priority. Just like we see here how hard it is for young folks to find Orthodox spouses, I am sure this is one of the top causes of attrition in some parishes. GOA has a wonderful Internet presence and a modern, cool looking dating service would be a great addition, methinks.

I would, however, make the distinction between dating services/apps and "hook-up" apps.

Ah interesting. I got the impression that my husband and I were a minority (maybe not so much so though!), but I knew some people were meeting online and that it was on the increase.

Being that he lived on one coast of the US, and I on the opposite one, it was the only way.

I met my fiancee on a long work trip in El Salvador. Once I know where I'm living later this year or next year I'll be able to get the visa started to bring her up.

I never used a dating site because I didn't feel that people were always genuine on them. OrthodoXCircle was awesome when it first came out, but then it went away, came back again, and, never really had the same activity since. It had a lot of potential that died when the owner went to seminary.

That said, I can certainly understand the appeal of meeting someone online. Reality is that so much of our socializing is done online now it only makes sense that finding another half would be as well. Plus, it takes a lot of pressure and expectation off of the individuals themselves when a friend or relative tries to set them up on a date. If I had a quarter everytime someone tried to set me up with their friend, cousin, sister, daughter, goddaughter, granddaughter, or any other non-married female relation I swear I'd have enough to finish the construction of St Nicholas at Ground Zero and pay off the national debt!
