It sounds like you are on the right track then. Do understand though that sin has consequences even after someone has genuinely repented. Look at David's repentance in 2 Samuel 12 over his actions in the previous chapter; and then see how he suffered in relation to the very sins that he repented of in the following chapters. David took the consequences though without complaining and trusted in God's mercy even as he was chastened. In a way such chastening is a time to prove our repentance and go deeper in our repentance by enduring it patiently and faithfully in righteousness. Sinning has a tendency to make it harder to do right afterwards- but the extra lengths we must go to in order to do right then is an appropriate way of showing that we really are sorry and seek to wholeheartedly please God from now on. I recommend reading Hebrews chapters 12 and 13 especially in light of your current situation. It is important too that you get into a faithful Bible believing church under faithful leadership if you are not already. Pray for God to direct you and keep you from deception there. Keep seeking Him no matter what, stay faithful to what you know is true, and don't take adversity for yourself and your family to mean that things are hopeless- even if the adversity be a result of your sin. Let whatever bad consequences from your sin as well as any merciful breaks you should receive to strengthen your resolve to seek God and do things His way from now on. Judgment Day is our ultimate concern and you can sure prove yet that you side with the Lord and influence others to do the same whatever happens here that is now beyond your control.
