JESUS does not lose those who believe and follow God's Word. This scripture does not say a believer cannot become an unbeliever and lose salvation as shown in the OP.

Who's losing their salvation should be the question then. Is there something your particularly worried about?

Not at all he who God sends speaks the Word of God. These are God's Words not mine. You provide your own words which are not God's Word. Only Gods Word is true and we should believe and follow it *ROMANS 3:4
Maybe you are the “every man”. Have you considered that?

I doubt it. Those who start these threads are sure that they are obedient enough.

Romans 5:1-2 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God.

Through salvation we have peace with God, standing in grace, hope of glory, assurance of love, certainty of deliverance, and joy in God.

Then y deny John 6:39 (among other passages of scripture)

Your saying that Jesus will lose many that God gives into Jesus power, that the power of God must somehow be ineffective for the salvation of His people..

and that's not what the Bible says at all.

Yes it says love and works will follow God's people.. but that doesn't mean they will be lost.

Some people will enter the Christian community without a pure heart. They will try and follow the rules but at some point fall away. They are NOT God's children... Jesus didn't lose them, they never belonged to Him.

By disregarding that verse, he also divides the Trinity. That is probably the greater sin.

We examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith, sure.
All churches everywhere has unsaved church members too.
These admonitions are written to all church goers.
No scripture says those the Father has given to Christ will be lost, infact it says the opposite.
But there are false brethren, they are not of God never having been born of the Spirit.
Jude also warns us of these kinds of people in churches, they are sensual, not having the Spirit. And they are going to hell. We would call them apostates.
Church letters explain doctrine, why things are they way they are.

Questions for discussion;

1. Can we lose our salvation?

No, but people get confused when observing hypocrites who claim to be Christians.
See:
WHY IS THERE SO MANY WARNINGS FROM GOD'S WORD ABOUT LOSING SALVATION IF IT IS NOT POSSIBLE??

WHY IS THERE SO MANY WARNINGS FROM GOD'S WORD ABOUT LOSING SALVATION IF IT IS NOT POSSIBLE??

2. What does it mean only those that are faithful to the end will be saved?

When a Christian examines himself, he knows that he is faithful.

3. Saved from what?

From Satan's power.

4. Is anyone in a saved state before God while living in a life of known unrepentant sin?

A Christian knows if he has sinned, he asks forgiveness, and seeks to glorify God by obeying Christ.

5. Why are there so many warnings from God's Word not to depart the faith if we cannot lose salvation?

Because God's word is a guide to Christians! Warnings keep us alert!

2 Timothy 3
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Look at it this way (NLT):
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

Praise God!

John 6 is worth studying to gain wisdom about these things.
Gods will will be done. For who has resisted His will?

38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.

39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.

40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”

The testimony from Heaven of Christ is that He will save His people from their sin.

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. 20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

24 Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, 25 and did not know her till she had brought forth her[j] firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus.

If your in the New Covenant, a member of that, it is a great salvation.
In this covenant,
God says HE WILL write His laws in their hearts and minds.
God says He will be merciful to them.
God says He will be their God, and they will be His people.
God says they will all know Him.
God says if they commit sins and lawless deeds, He will not recall them to judgement.

If God shows you His mercy, this means your salvation.
On some He shows mercy, but others wrath. The ones who have this mercy from God He prepared them beforehand to be vessels of mercy.

Romans 9
22 What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much long-suffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, 23 and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory, 24 even us whom He called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

25 As He says also in Hosea:

“I will call them My people, who were not My people,
And her beloved, who was not beloved.”
26 “And it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them,
‘You are not My people,’
There they shall be called sons of the living God.”

Hebrews 8
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. 8 Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 9 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord. 10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 11 None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”

13 In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

If so, why so many warnings from both the old and New Testament scriptures not to depart the faith and fall away from believing and following God's Word?
The warnings are to be sure you are saved. A friend of mine talks about how he warmed the seat in church for 17 years and yet he was not saved. That does not make sense to me, yet that is what he says. When I was saved I had a feeling that there was no ceiling or roof on the building. Over the years I have learned that this is common because at the time of our salvation a portal is created so that our loved ones in Heaven can witness our salvation and rejoice.

Hi all,

This thread is for general discussion on what the bible says about losing salvation. I noticed some are trying to teach a false doctrine of once saved always saved here. Does the bible really teach this? If so, why so many warnings from both the old and New Testament scriptures not to depart the faith and fall away from believing and following God's Word?

Why are we admonished...

2 CORINTHIANS 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether you be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know you not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except you be reprobates?

Which in my view is good advice considering that there will be many on that day that thought and believed that they were following God and were not following God...

MATTHEW 7:22-23 [22], Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? and in your name have cast out devils? and in your name done many wonderful works? [23], And then will I profess to them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work sin.

and again a little earlier...

MATTHEW 7:13-20
[13], Enter you in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
[14], Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads to life, and few there be that find it.
[15], Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
[16], You shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
[17], Even so every good tree brings forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit.
[18], A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
[19], Every tree that brings not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
[20], Why by their fruits you shall know them.

The issue here and in the OP is to examine ourselves as it is ONLY all those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD that are in a saved state with God. According to God's WORD all those who CONTINUE in KNOWN UNREPENTANT SIN will not enter into the KINGDOM of HEAVEN *HEBREWS 10:26-27 because they reject the gift of God's dear son *ROMANS 6:23. OBEDIENCE to God's LAW is not how we are saved it is the FRUIT of God's work in us as we BELIEVE and FOLLOW his WORD through love. If our faith has no fruit it is dead *JAMES 2:18-20; 26 and our tree will be cast down and thrown into the fire *MATTHEW 3:10; 7:19-20; 13:49-50.

It is not God's will that we sin but if we do we have an advocate with the father *1 JOHN 2:1-4

..............

MATTHEW 24:13 [12], And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. [13], But he that shall endure to the end, the same shall be saved.

MARK 13:13 [13], And you shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure to the end, the same shall be saved.

HEBREWS 3:13-14 [13], But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. [14], For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end

HEBREWS 3:6 [6], But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.

COLOSSIANS 1:12-14; 23
[12], Giving thanks to the Father, which has made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
[13], Who has delivered us from the power of darkness, and has translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
[14], In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.....
[23], If you continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which you have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister

REVELATION 2:26 [26], And he that overcomes, and keeps my works to the end, to him will I give power over the nations

2 THESSALONIANS 2:1-3 [1], Now we beseech you, brothers, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together to him, [2], That you be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. [3], Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition

1 PETER 4:18 [18], And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

HEBREWS 10:26-27 [26], For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins, [27], But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

HEBREWS 6:4-8 [4], For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, [5], And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, [6], If they shall fall away, to renew them again to repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. [7], For the earth which drinks in the rain that comes oft on it, and brings forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receives blessing from God:
[8], But that which bears thorns and briers is rejected, and is near to cursing; whose end is to be burned.

MATTHEW 13:18-23 [18], Hear you therefore the parable of the sower.
[19], When any one hears the word of the kingdom, and understands it not, then comes the wicked one, and catches away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. [20], But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that hears the word, and immediately with joy receives it; [21], Yet has he not root in himself, but endures for a while: for when tribulation or persecution rises because of the word, by and by he is offended. [22], He also that received seed among the thorns is he that hears the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.[23], But he that received seed into the good ground is he that hears the word, and understands it; which also bears fruit, and brings forth, some an hundred times, some sixty, some thirty.

REVELATION 2:26 And he that overcomes, and keeps my works to the end, to him will I give power over the nations:

REVELATION 3:5
He that overcomes, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

REVELATION 3:12 Him that overcomes will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from my God: and I will write on him my new name.

REVELATION 3:21 To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

REVELATION 21:7 He that overcomes shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

These are only a few scriptures. The same warnings are all through both the old and new testament scriptures.

..............

Questions for discussion;

1. Can we lose our salvation? (linked to answer)

2. What does it mean only those that are faithful to the end will be saved?

3. Saved from what?

4. Is anyone in a saved state before God while living in a life of known unrepentant sin?

5. Why are there so many warnings from God's Word not to depart the faith if we cannot lose salvation?

God bless.
Matthew 7:13 (WEB) “Enter in by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in by it. 14 How narrow is the gate, and restricted is the way that leads to life! Few are those who find it."

Matthew 22:14 (WEB) "For many are called, but few chosen.”

Matthew 25 (WEB)
31 “But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. 32 Before him all the nations will be gathered, and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will tell those on his right hand, ‘Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you took me in. 36 I was naked, and you clothed me. I was sick, and you visited me. I was in prison, and you came to me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you; or thirsty, and give you a drink? 38 When did we see you as a stranger, and take you in; or naked, and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you?’

40 “The King will answer them, ‘Most certainly I tell you, because you did it to one of the least of these my brothers , you did it to me.’ 41 Then he will say also to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry, and you didn’t give me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink; 43 I was a stranger, and you didn’t take me in; naked, and you didn’t clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you didn’t visit me.’

44 “Then they will also answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and didn’t help you?’

45 “Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Most certainly I tell you, because you didn’t do it to one of the least of these, you didn’t do it to me.’ 46 These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

At the final judgement even the unbelievers call Him Lord, who never knew Him.
And Christ says He never knew them either.

It is, I think, easy and dangerous to get too legalsitic. Many, including me, have failed to follow God's word for periods of time. That's called sin, and many fall short in our teens and young adulthood only to return to God. Am I to think that falling away for a time resulted in my damnation if I die during that time? I think not, for to know him once is to know him always even if I go away for a time.

Throughout Scripture, and as we've seen on display here, there are countless positive verses affirming eternal security.

Those who wish to oppose OSAS must offer only negative verses, and then are burdened with having to try to show how they undermine the positive verses. But, the positive verses remain, standing tall and bold against the onslaught.

As I've shown in the other thread virtually taken over by me and LoveofTruth, there is no anti-OSAS verse that can't be refuted by a thorough, diligent exegesis, in context using good hermeneutic principles.

If we are believing and following God's Word in the present tense we are God's people. God's Word teaches that if we are not believing and following God's Word in the present tense we are not his people.

To me ... this one verse says it all

Hebrews 10:26

For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,

no longer remains ... (ie) there once was

no sacrifice = no salvation

Can people go on sinning willfully? of course. It can be seen or not seen.
We don't know what is in peoples hearts, only God does.

Psalm 44:21

Would not God discover this? For he knows the secrets of the heart.
