I know multiple people who met their spouse on OrthodoXCircle. I didn’t meet my husband only through that (he’s friends with my priest), but I did get to know him more through it...so I’d say yes, it can be successful.

The only thing that I know about Christian dating apps is from Christian Mingle The Movie.

It isn’t quite as active as it used to be, but the singles membership is free, so it won’t hurt to check it out

A lot of people meet on the internet now, I don't think it's a worse place than any other to meet somebody and definitely better standing on a street corner with a sign or something.

I know a few who have had some success with OrthodoXCircle.

I met my wife through OrthodoxCircle, though that was nearly 11 years ago, and I'm not sure how similar today's site is to that one. Neither of us were on there specifically for dating, but it sure worked out that way.

It is nearly 12 years ago on OrthodoXCircle for us

I just logged on today - doesn’t seem nearly as active, but who knows!

I can say that while I was introduced to my wife via a mutual friend, we both had OC profiles and chatted through it.

plus I met my good friend All4Christ on there.

I may be more of a cynic (realist, perhaps?)... But, I've come to the conclusion, that anything advertising itself as "CHRISTIAN this, that, or the other", is either:
A) a marketing ploy, to draw in fundagelicals... Remember when embossing a cross into a piece of candy, and putting a bible verse , on the wrapper, made parents who wouldn't give their kids candy, started shoving the "Testamints", sold at the religious book store, down their throats.
B) would attract the same type of people that think the Orthodox, & RC's are idol worshipers

I met my husband online - and it was a Christian site. Broadly, including Catholics (I didn't know to check for Orthodox back then so not sure if there were any). It was a truly exceptional site, which unfortunately was sold and merged with another. I made MANY good friends there, quite a few I keep in touch with on FB over the last 12 years. I didn't join expecting to meet anyone romantically but just to reassure myself who was out there in the world. The site had a large forum area and that was where I spent most of my time, as well as a real-time chat and a private system for sending "haloes" to someone you wanted to invite to send private messages with.

I think it worked well because of the forum area. People who would participate honestly there could really get to know each other. It wasn't broken into denominational groups but had areas for different kinds of discussion and private areas where women or men only could discuss with each other.

The whole idea of surfing people based on a photo and a profile I think is a lot less worthwhile. But I guess that's a common model?

I glanced at the thread title and I swear I saw "Thoughts of Dating Apes".

I don't think there is any question that meeting someone online is the norm, not the exception or "odd" way.


Orthodox or not, I think this should be a priority. Just like we see here how hard it is for young folks to find Orthodox spouses, I am sure this is one of the top causes of attrition in some parishes. GOA has a wonderful Internet presence and a modern, cool looking dating service would be a great addition, methinks.

I would, however, make the distinction between dating services/apps and "hook-up" apps.
