LightSail 2 Just Gifted Us Stunning New Pictures of Our Little Blue Marble From Space
I would welcome that knowledge if there were evidence. Even a photograph or video would be sufficient yet we sit here and one has yet to surface. Hundreds of humans have witnessed the Earth from space yet not one ever reported seeing a flat Earth.I think we should welcome knowledge of the Flat Earth movement and similar conspiracy tropes. Before the internet we were, perhaps, unaware that the planet was home to so many fools and charlatans. Now, at least, we are forewarned.
Either I do not understand you, or you did not understand me. Try it this way:I would welcome that knowledge if there were evidence. Even a photograph or video would be sufficient yet we sit here and one has yet to surface. Hundreds of humans have witnessed the Earth from space yet not one ever reported seeing a flat Earth.
The consipiracy of the flat earth existed long before the Internet. My point was, how can you welcome knowledge of a flat earth if there is no evidence that it exists?Either I do not understand you, or you did not understand me. Try it this way:
I welcome the knowledge that the Flat Earth movement, etc exists, since it reveals there are a boatload of dummies floating around the planet (metaphorically) and we can thank the internet for making that fact evident.
If that was what you did understand me to mean, then what does your post mean?
OK, I'll try again. The consipiracy of the flat earth existed long before the Internet. My point was, how can you welcome knowledge of a flat earth if there is no evidence that it exists?
I think you are still misunderstanding. He's not saying that he welcomes the knowledge of a flat earth, he welcomes the knowledge that the "movement" exists because it shows how stupid people can be.The consipiracy of the flat earth existed long before the Internet. My point was, how can you welcome knowledge of a flat earth if there is no evidence that it exists?
Well, I know there are spades and I know there are shovels, but you can dig a big hole with either. To me someone who is "incredibly paranoid, iconoclastic, and [has] an incredible level of cognitive dissonance" is unintelligent. Most flat earthers are not what one would really call unintelligent. They are just incredibly paranoid, iconoclastic, and have an incredible level of cognitive dissonance.

This could easily develop into a deep discussion on semantics, the definition and measurement of intelligence, the psychology of conspiracy theorists and more. I think it would be better to agree we have marginally different views on the mental condition of such, but that we are aligned in thinking their hypotheses are crazy. What I'm saying is that this kind of thing is compartmentalized. In many other fields they might be very intellectually adept, but they simply are unable to apply those skills to certain beliefs that they hold, as they will assume that anything that seems to disprove it is part of the conspiracy.
I'm not a flat earther, but I don't see how flat pictures can prove the earth is not flat.
