Voted don't believe in tithing because I don't.
No where in the NT does it say that tithing is a requirement for Christians.
Agreed.
There have been threads on this subject before, and sometimes people have said that they tithe because it is in the OT; iow, it is Scriptural.
Sorry, but I have never met, or read of, anyone who tithes
as described in the OT.
The OT tithe was food - always food. They were to take 10% of their crops to the temple and then
eat them to celebrate God's goodness to them - not forgetting the priests, who didn't have allotments, and the poor. The ONLY time the tithe involved money was if God had blessed them so much that 10% of their crops was too heavy to carry. THEN they were to sell that 10%, take the money to the temple to
buy food and sit down to eat.
So if someone insists on tithing, as in the OT, that is what should happen. Buy an allotment, take 10% of your potatoes, cucumbers, beans etc to church one morning, make a stew/salad/stir fry and eat it after, or during, the service. OR, sell 10% of your crops, stop at the supermarket on the way to church, spend the money you got from your crops and make a meal with what you bought.
Giving 10% of your wages to the church is allowed - it's your money.
Insisting, or a Pastor insisting, that a Christian HAS to give 10% of their earnings to the church because tithing is Scriptural; is incorrect.
The OT tithe was food.
The NT teaching on money is; do not let it become your master, put God first, if money is an idol, give it up. The early church gave, and shared, everything.
