While the leaker is not innocent, no ambassador worth his salt would say what this one said in the presence of anyone who might leak it. That's part of what being an ambassador requires.

The information came from leaked documents. One might examine the security of British diplomatic cables...but I would not hang this on the Ambassador. Of course this is minor compared to what Snowden leaked...

He is not your prim and proper political phony. He says what he wants and does not care what foreigners think. That is one reason people in the states like him. If they want to be our friends, great. If not, go kiss up to the Russians or Chinese. See what kind of diplomacy you get there. We don't care. As of now... it is America first here.

Umm...”kiss up to the Russians”...? You sure you want that in there...?

Naaa. I did understand you correctly and that follow-up clarification of yours confirms it.

While the leaker is not innocent, no ambassador worth his salt would say what this one said in the presence of anyone who might leak it. That's part of what being an ambassador requires.

Your clarification confirms a misunderstanding of how diplomats operate. Every ambassador makes frank assessments of the president to help determine how to deal with him. You can tell that's exactly what other ambassadors have done by the way their leaders have catered to Trump's very special ego-based needs & ignorance. They keep anything written unusually brief, know to use his name frequently to appeal to his ego, use simple terminology.

Trump has had the leakiest White House in modern history.

I see. You consider it standard operating procedure for an ambassador to make a confidential report along with gratuitous personal insults directed at the head of state of the nation to which he has been sent as the representative of his own government.

That's very interesting. I can accept that you might mean this is not uncommon, but that is not the point at all. It is hardly appropriate behavior in an ambassador.

No selling uranium to the Russians in Trump admin. Obama did that.

When one is hired to report the truth, one reports the truth even if others might think it insulting.

Trump is all those things. I wish he wasn't, but he is. Truth needs to be spoken even if some get upset by it.

Gratuitous insults or an accurate assessment?

Obama? I thought it was Hillary who was supposed to have stolen US-owned uranium and fenced to the Russians. I think you're getting your narratives mixed up.

Baloney. The controversial remarks were almost totally in the realm of opinion and characterizations. What's more all of them could have been stated, if that was necessary, using dignified language rather than what was chosen instead.

<chuckle> You mean, "Donny doesn't play well with other students", "Donny learns a little slower than his peers", or "Donny's aide wasn't on duty that day"?

Fanboys are really pretty thinskinned. He is your leader, be proud! Don't keep trying to blame others because they refused to admire his new suit when he is actually standing there naked.

"But...but...Mommy, the emperor has no clothes on...."

2000 years and counting! Glad it's not the same timeframe when my wife tells me she'll be ready to go soon. I'd never eat dinner.
LOL........Yes, GOD is beyond time and we are tied to it... I have yet to hear of anyone forgetting what happened tomorrow?

Big stick?
Should I have qualified that phrase. Back when I growing up, a Big Stick was a piece of wood to wack someone with. But Teddy Roosevelt spoke of the Big Stick, He was referring to the US military, the ability to use force if necessary.

I don't think you're seeing this at all. The ambassador didn't pull a Trump. He didn't make up some lame juvenile nickname for Trump like Trump habitually does to gratuitously, sadistically insult other people. He didn't mock Trump's appearance like how Trump habitually & disgustingly mocks the appearance of so many other people. Trump launched a sick attack on the mayor of London while they were dealing with a terrorist attack. That's just Trump's character. Amb. Darroch did not in any capacity replicate Trump's behaviour or anything remotely resembling it. He described Trump's character as part of assessing him, which is critically important to then handling relations with him. Trump is, in the professional opinion of not just Ambassador Darroch but oh so many others is incompetent, inept, prone to childish retribution & decisions based on his emotions instead of reason or patriotism. Darroch still hosted Trump at his residence when he came to London. He still was polite to him. The criticism was made confidentially.

You may think it's hardly appropriate behavior in an ambassador but why should I possibly care about your opinion, which is probably unqualified? Senior leaders of Britain do not agree with it, and they definitely have more knowledge & experience to make that judgement call than you. They called it a great regret that Darroch had been harangued to resign out of the rabidness of Trump's ego. Again, they stated it was critically important to be able to make such frank assessments.

What superlatives would you use to characterize Trump’s “diplomatic skills”?

Idk how you honestly assess Donald Trump's character without writing something that would offend his notoriously delicate ego if it was leaked. Diplomats are fearful of the same thing happening to them bc they see him as a wreck.

Ambassadors: We all think Donald Trump’s a mess

You don't. They just have to change out the ambassador if what they really think about Trump is indeed leaked.

I doubt the man has any real admiration from around the world.

I wouldn't be surprised if they made up fake assessments describing him as having a big brain, being super smart, having the best words, not a racist bone in his body, being the bestest golfer in the world, slim & trim, looking 40. If they wrote exactly that & leaked it, Trump would totally believe it was authentic bc it said exactly what he wanted it to do.

Yeah but you don't leak the real assessment, you leak the fake one.
