[Edited material from "Is Sharia Law Compatible with Democracy?", by Michael Curtis, Professor Emeritus of Rutgers University]

“John Adams writes, ‘Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.’

Noah Webster stated, "The moral principles and precepts contained in the scriptures ought to form the basis of all our civil constitutions and laws. All the miseries and evils which men suffer from vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery, and war, proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible."

Delegate Governor Morris of Pennsylvania forthrightly professed, "I believe that religion is the only solid base of morals, and that morals are the only possible support of free governments. Therefore education should teach the precepts of religion and the duties of man towards God."

Americans of that era actually held to the Christian faith, yet they held to the commonly accepted morals, ethics and standards of behavior derived from English Common Law, which drew from biblical law given to the Hebrews by God.

The rule of law laid out in the Constitution descends from the Ten Commandments.

Both Leviticus 19:34 and Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution require uniform treatment of immigrants. Deuteronomy 17:15 warns the Hebrews not to let a foreigner rule over them just as the Constitution requires the president to be a natural born citizen of the U.S.

The requirement in Article III Section 3 to establish guilt in cases of treason by the testimony of at least two witnesses recalls the biblical instruction in Deuteronomy 17:6 to have the testimony of two or three witnesses before putting a man to death.

A proposed amendment to the Constitution of Oklahoma, State Question 755, stating that, "The courts shall not look to the legal precepts of other nations or cultures. Specifically, the courts shall not consider international law or sharia law," was blocked by an order of U.S. District Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange. Her decision was upheld by the Federal 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver on January 10, 2012.

Sharia law, which regulates all aspects of Muslim communal and private life, is discriminatory against women and children, denying them rights that have been won over the last two centuries in democratic countries…

It is difficult to envisage the compatibility of alternative legal systems with the law in democratic societies, particularly with an Islamic legal system that calls for the death penalty for apostasy, sexual "crimes" of women including adultery, and homosexuality. Women are handicapped on issues of marriage, divorce, inheritance, and child custody. A Muslim man is permitted to have four wives and can divorce one of them with ease, but women must follow a difficult path to obtain a divorce. At the worst, women can be stoned to death for sex outside marriage. Judgment in criminal cases can be harsh; thieves may be punished by amputation…

The cases in Oklahoma and New Jersey have paved the way for an important decision by the U.S. Supreme Court in the near future. Will it allow Muslim law to be used in civil cases relating to the Muslim community? Will the decisions of Sharia tribunals become legally binding? Or will the Supreme Court decide, as did the highest court in Britain, the Law Lords, when it ruled in a case involving a woman and custody of her child in 2008, that the Sharia law applied in that particular case was discriminatory and a violation of human rights?”

Sharia law is the fundamental structure of their religion. There is no separation of church and state. They firmly believe in an order of governing with no place for democracy, Allah, Law, Imam, clergy, man, woman.

Their history is one of occupy, increase your numbers and conversion by force. In 30 years, Europe will be overwhelmed by their numbers. A culture can sustain itself if they duplicate themselves. I think Europe is procreating at about 1.6 children per family. Muslims 6-8 kids. They will dominate just by numbers alone and of course, their laws are being changed already to accommodate them.
This is not paranoia, it's a movement taking place.

Christians didn't believe in the separation of church and state, or the freedom of religion for the few eons either.

It seems like some of you still don't really practice it either.

Instead of taking your word for it (someone with a religious ax to grind), i'll instead talk to the people themselves about what their opinions actually are.

I'll bet you would also look really bad if we only let people who hated you define your opinions for you rather than letting you speak for yourself. So, I don't think it's proper for you to do it either.

And the times, they have a-changed...

The rule of law laid out in the Constitution descends from the Ten Commandments.

Including the First Amendment?

Both Leviticus 19:34 and Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution require uniform treatment of immigrants. Deuteronomy 17:15 warns the Hebrews not to let a foreigner rule over them just as the Constitution requires the president to be a natural born citizen of the U.S.

And neither document were too keen on the topic of women in power -- fortunately, the one that matters can be and has been amended.

Considering that the Bible is a foreign document and a product of another nation and culture, you should probably send her a thank-you card... or do you not appreciate how close you just came to shooting your own argument in the foot?

Sharia law, which regulates all aspects of Muslim communal and private life, is discriminatory against women and children, denying them rights that have been won over the last two centuries in democratic countries…

In spite of the Bible, it should be noted...

It is difficult to envisage the compatibility of alternative legal systems with the law in democratic societies, particularly with an Islamic legal system that calls for the death penalty for apostasy, sexual "crimes" of women including adultery, and homosexuality.

The Biblical legal system calls for the death penalty for all these things as well -- take it from a non-believer; it's just as easy to ignore two holy books as it is to ignore one.

Again, not seeing a whole lot of difference between this and the Bible...

The cases in Oklahoma and New Jersey have paved the way for an important decision by the U.S. Supreme Court in the near future. Will it allow Muslim law to be used in civil cases relating to the Muslim community? Will the decisions of Sharia tribunals become legally binding? The highest court in Britain? International law coming from a foreign country, you mean?

You missed one foot -- then shot yourself in the other. And for that, I thank you.

Oh, yeah - They squeeze the life out of you though.

Nevertheless, your friend with the antivenom has the "solution" for a problem which doesn't exist... If I had a nickel for every time I saw that on these boards...

Omar and AOC are anti-American, ant- Semitic, anti-Semitic Capitalism, anti-Constitution, antichrists.
Trump did not agree with the "send her back" chant, but nobody would miss her. In many of the original state constitutions, they required that you be a Christian to hold any office. I do not believe a Muslim should be representing our country in any political office or judge for that matter. It conflicts with our laws. They want Sharia Law and eventually that become a the issue. Examine European counties laws and how they've changed to accommodate Muslims and their religion.

That's your opinion but they were democratically elected so have a right to act as members of Congress. If you are so intolerant of people with different views logically you should want a dictatorship where dissenters are eliminated. You do realize there are people who think you're anti-American.

Trump's rhetoric indirectly encouraged the chanting. How do you know whether his later criticism of it was genuine? At the time it looked as though he was proud of it.

You presented zero proper evidence for your many accusations.

I haven't ordered Trump to leave the office and the country but I certainly would advise people not to vote for him in 2020 if he chooses to stand. I'm disappointed (but not surprised) you don't understand the difference.

This is really about 2020 then, right? The chance of Trump not getting reelected though, I would say are around zero. When Obama was President there were still a lot of people in this country that didn't like the idea, nor maybe even liked Obama personally, the same way many American's don't care care for Trump personally. It still didn't prevent him from getting reelected. The same is going to be true in Trump's case.

It's a big decision for all of us. Do we want the US to be a great country striving to live up to our American values? Or do we want it to be an isolationist theocratic backwater?

Will you be around to admit you're wrong if Trump is not re-elected. Big talk is easy when you are not accountable

I'm guessing no one's ever told you to go back where you came from and then called where came from a "complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world, if they have a functioning government at all."

BIG DEAL
I'm right back where I came from.
