Well my only recommendation is that if you do yoga at home, don't do it in a living room with a glass coffee table. My sister moved the table out of the way, not far enough. She lost her balance, fell the opposite way. Broke the table. She was fine.
I admire the heck out of the folks who are able to do that yoga stuff with so much balance. They're teaching yoga on military bases now. It's good.

Lol, that's my nightmare scenario. At our old house we had carpet in the bedrooms & doing yoga on carpet is harder. I had to do it in the family room but had to move stuff out of the way first. Yoga is the GOAT exercise.

I have terrible balance, at least when I have to stand on one leg. That's not uncommon for people that fall on the autism spectrum.

Years ago when my fibromyalgia was bad, I bought a week long pass to an upscale yoga studio in my old parent's home in Oviedo, an upscale suburb near Orlando. I became a yoga bum and went for several hours every day. That was alot of physical exercise and meditation. But... the hardest thing for me was balancing in the tree pose. All the women in the class could do it easily, but I couldn't do it for any length of time at all. I am not so great at balance, never have been. I just had take a break during that part of the routines.

I also underwent physical therapy because I had developed pelvic pain (I though I had prostate problems and even took antibiotics, to no effect, until I found a specialist who would give me a referral for physical therapy- no easy task in itself). The physical therapist actually recommended yoga poses to do as homework (pidgeon pose, mostly) as well as some Pilates type exercises.

Since I started doing yoga again about a month ago hip pain/popping and pressure points have gone away.

Yoga is good exercise because it's typically taught in a nonjudgmental atmosphere. There are also alternative poses if you are unable to do the standard poses, or they are considered too risky. So it's a relatively low risk physical activity that people can do their entire lives.

Meditation as I learned it is a structured practice focused on nonjudgmental acceptance of whatever I am experiencing in the present moment. The purpose is roughly to develop self-knowledge so that we can experience the world without self-defeating patterns of thinking and rumination and with virtuous mental qualities that do not lead to unnecessary mental anguish. Done regularly, and with the right intention, it leads to a broader, more expansive sort of mindset that is not as swept along by the ebb and flow of ones current circumstances, and which is inherently more resilient.

That's terrific yoga has helped you out so much. One of these days I'll give it a shot. My girlfriend & sister even taught my grandma how to do it. They all love it. They mainly do it at home. They're subscribed to this exercise channel that has got yoga classes on it.

I think I found the version of the bible where it actually says something about yoga!

16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every place of the garden thou mayest freely go:
17 But of the mat of the yoga instructor, thou shalt not go and sitteth oneself on it: for in the day that thou sitteth and stretcheth thereof thou shalt surely die. (Genesis 2:16-17 T[rue]KJV )

My meditation is not a "worldly" practice it is a silent attentiveness to The Lord Jesus Christ who is ever present. He took me from being a self centered debouching college student and showed me His path.

You cannot see it that way, I know. But belive it or not you may not always be right, especially when it comes to the journey of other people and their call to faith.

What's your process for meditating?

Usually I start with some kind of focus. Something that interests me at the moment. Maybe something Jesus said that touches me or often Psalm 91. "He who dwells in the shelter of the most high...". There is so much to ponder right there... to dwell..shelter.. most high.. I get it down simple and ponder. Gradually the distractions fall away, thoughts become fewer, simpler. Every now and then a moment of pure listening, pure attention, truly present to the One who is always present. Stillness.

Pilates is also worth looking into.

That sounds vaguely like lectio divina.

Depends on what you mean by inspired since practically everyone here on CF has a different idea of what the word inspired means. If your definition of inspired is that God took over someone's body and channeled all the words into them and moved the hand to put them down on a page in some exact way (and bonus if they were written in King James English), then no, I don't believe that the bible was inspired in that way.

If you mean inspired in the sense that the writers were their own persons and remained as such, had their own unique thoughts, gifts, and ideas within their particular cultural contexts, and yet were prompted by the Holy Spirit to proclaim a message of the good news of salvation that occurs throughout scripture from Genesis to Revelation, then yes, I would go along with that one.

The word "holy" simply means set apart, so I have no arguments there. God sets apart both people and things for his purposes.

When it comes to living though, words on a page are not alive. It is God himself, the *person* of Christ who is the living Word, and it is the *person* that we can see through the words on the page, but the words on the page can in no way represent the entirety of that person. The Word is also not limited to showing glimpses of himself through words on a page, but also when we are deep in prayer, when we listen for his Voice, other spiritual disciplines that help draw us closer to him, and through all of his creation that he proclaimed to be good. "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork." (Psalm 19:1)

2 Tim 3:16 “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine reproof and correction that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly furnished into our good works”. I do believe that those who were inspired wrote according to their own writing styles, the culture they lived in, their personalities etc. but I believe God conveyed to them his will and his truth that they would speak it, and then it would be written down to be read by others. Jesus attested to the truth of the old testament many times. I would also say it’s Very important to understand everything in the Bible is not written directly to those who are in Christ. Much of the Bible was written about those under the old covenant. Sometimes it’s applicable to us living under the new covenant sometimes not. Sometimes people will take scriptures from the Old Testament and apply it to the church today or the world today and I believe it’s a miss application. I don’t believe there’s only one certain Bible such as the King James which is only the word of God, although I do like the New king James personally for my Own use. But I like to look at other translations as well to get a fresh perspective and see it in different words as well. I believe the word becomes alive when it’s mixed with faith and God causes that to happen because faith is from God.

Thanks! One of my teachers used to have us meditate & it was amazing. I've had a harder time doing it just on my own bc I get distracted by noise, things like that. I'll try Psalm 91! I'm great right now but during the yr I think meditation would be helpful for stress.

Psalm 91 is amazing. What does it mean to dwell in the shelter of the most high? What does it mean to dwell? What kind of shelter does the most high give? "Most High" could there be a better description of the Lord? "Abide in the shade of the almighty". Almost the same concept but restated. We can ruminate on each of those words as well. AFter about 20 minutes our minds are much more tranquil and we can just rest in His presence without any thought of our own, just listening, waiting, being present. It is a holy place.

Yes, that's what Lectio Divina is about.

It is so strange how we will spend so much time on these forums with people who, if we met them face to face, we would probably not mess around with.

All the more reason to spend more time practicing yoga. :)

The odd thing is I don't do it that much. Kind of on my bucket list for when I retire. Then I hope to do it daily. Now just enough for my restless legs and lower back.

There's free yoga classes at the park near me but I'm kinda intimidated by how talented everybody is with it, lol. I need more practice at home.

I like just ruminating about "dwelling", "abiding". What does it mean to dwell in "The Most High" to "abide" in "the almighty"? It can mean so much. It reminds me of when the apostles asked Jesus, 'Where do you dwell?"

Yes, good question, where did Jesus dwell? Where do I dwell?
