Oh, am I not viewing the team the way I'm supposed to?

just an observation.....various "network TV" entities (latest being FOX Sports Network) have been covering World Cup Soccer for several years. It didn't suddenly become a thing..

Very true! I've never seen soccer coverage on network TV until this year. I was wondering why it suddenly became something the networks thought people were suddenly interested in. Then I found out that the team captain is a lesbian and said something against Trump. Question answered.

It seems to be the way people become celebrities these days. After Trump is gone, people will have to go back to posting viral videos to become famous again.

What I meant by "network TV" are the ones who broadcast over the air, such as ABC, NBC, CBS. I don't have cable. When I turn on the TV to watch my favorite shows, the sport coverage that takes its place (especially on the weekends) has always been football, basketball, baseball and auto racing. Almost never soccer. I suppose if I had cable with the sports channels like ESPN, there would be more variety. But the network channels seem to focus on what's most popular. This is also true during the Olympics, with most of the events not aired accept on the cable sports channels.

The World Cup Final has been on ABC or FOX going back to at least 1998. The 2015 Women’s World Cup Final was on FOX and the 1999 Final was on ABC. It may not have been on your radar before this year but other people were paying attention to this. Rapinoe’s star was on the rise back in 2011 for her amazing pass to Wambach to tie Brazil in the quarterfinals.

But the World Cup Final is just one event in Soccer. Others are not aired over the networks that I'm aware of. If only the Superbowl was aired for football, then it would have the same air time as Soccer. Or if the World Series was the only baseball games aired on network TV, then baseball would have the same air time as Soccer. But baseball and football games are shown on TV multiple times every weekend. Soccer doesn't have the same popularity, at least not in the USA. I know it's far more popular in other countries to the point of people becoming violently fanatic about it.

Looks like the USA women's soccer team, unlike the White House, are able to win something without Russia's help.

Looks like Soccer has become a political issue.

I wish you would stop moving the goalposts. First you argued in Post #26 that soccer wasn’t shown on network TV until now because the star player was anti-Trump and lesbian. This has been demonstrated as wrong several times. Now you are arguing it wasn’t shown often on network TV. This only comes around once every four years and is for the world championship. Of course there is more now than other years but not much different than other World Cup years. I even showed that Rapinoe has been a top player since 2011 so her being the talk of the tournament isn’t due to her being anti-Trump or lesbian. It’s because she was the best player and best scorer in the tournament.

YOU never paid attention before . You do not speak for everyone. Lots of people were paying attention past World Cups. It’s fine you weren’t paying attention but don’t try to gas light us into believing none of us were either or we only do because we want to stick it to Trump.

Scroll down about 1/4 down the page. There's a chart there showing the popularity of Soccer in the USA. It's at 7%.
As for what you consider to be my moving of goalposts--keep in mind that I'm responding to different people about different aspects of the conversation. My response to one person's post isn't a response to everyone's.

I never hear about the Summer Olympics in 2017, 2018 or 2019, it's like the event only happens every 4 years. It's never been about the truth, it's always been about attacking any perceived insults against the cult leader.

As that chart points out, 7% is way better than hockey, closer to baseball (9%) than hockey, and about halfway between basketball (11%) and hockey. In terms of peak viewership, the World Cup is neck-and-neck with the Stanley Cup and higher than the NBA Finals.

You can expect to see a lot more soccer on tv in the coming years, lesbians or not.

Ann Coulter - June 25, 2014 - AMERICA'S FAVORITE NATIONAL PASTIME: HATING SOCCER

Your alternative history will not find quarter here. Soccer has an audience in the US and it has nothing to do with what the Women’s National Team captain thinks of the current president. Trump like all cult leaders is just issuing a loyalty test to make sure his good foot soldiers are in line and will eschew anything he deems unpleasing or drink anything he declares refreshing.

If you are Christian and not upset about the conduct and actions of the current president, then you need to read your Bible.

I would love you to expound on this a little.

Women's World Cup champions celebrate with NYC parade
The US women's soccer team just finished their victory in parade in Manhattan. Now they're at New York City Hall for a ceremony with Mayor Bill de Blasio where they will be presented keys to the city.

The team danced out on stage while "All I Do Is Win" played.

All I do is win win win no matter what
Got money on my mind I can never get enough
And every time I step up in the buildin'
Everybody hands go up
And they stay there
And they say yeah
And they stay there
Up down, up down, up down
'Cause all I do is win win win
And if you goin' in put your hands in the air
Make 'em stay there

I don't know what drink Trump has declared to be refreshing, but now I feel the irresistible desire to find out.
