Yes, I know this is another "music by the decade" thread, but it seems as though the '70s was an era where Christian music was catching on. I think it was called the "Jesus music era" which spanned (from what I've heard) the greater part of the '70s (and even the late '60s). These were artists that influenced many of the artists that came after them. And, although the '80s was basically when I grew up, I can honestly say that I got influenced by a lot of the '70s music as well. This is due to the fact that upon discovering CCM while approaching adolescence in the mid 1980s, I was discovering a lot of the CCM dating some years prior to that. There is a lot of good stuff.

The 1970s also saw the launch of CCM Magazine, 1978 to be exact (I'm not old enough to have remembered this, but I found this information out through a special commemorative edition of the magazine). The first artist featured on the cover was the Boones (yes, the daughters of the legend known as Pat Boone), all in their 20s at the time. Unfortunately, I can't locate an image of this magazine cover online for some reason (and that surprises me, quite honestly, seeing that it was the first issue).

So... I will start this thread with some tracks from the Boones 1979 album, called Heavenly Love. Note how they dabble in disco on the title cut!

(This one features Andre Crouch)

(This shows the actual original album cover)

(I actually heard this one before the Imperials version. Strange, huh?)

(Great harmony in this old hymn!)

1976 was the first time the world heard Soon and Very Soon. I've heard it numerous ways but nothing compares to the original and many are unaware that it actually has more words than just the chorus.

In my opinion, this is a gem of a song from the era.
I love the 'funkadelic' break down (1:50) and the way they transition (2:06) into to the sax solo and ending vamp is just brilliant.

Praise the Lord for the '70's. I was spiritually born again from above by God & regenerated by the Holy Spirit, during the 'Jesus Revolution' that occurred then. It was a real revival period & people became Christians all over the world then. When I run into people who became believers in & followers of the Lord at that time, they are STILL following Him faithfully. God did a work then & blessed saints then with some edifying music.

Keith Green & his wife Melody were two of those the Lord called to Himself at that time. They started a ministry, 'Last Days Ministries' & his music & their lives were such a blessing to many & still are.

“I repent of ever having recorded one single song and ever having performed one concert if my music, and more importantly -- my life -- has not provoked you into godly jealousy, or to sell out more completely to Jesus!”
Keith Green

The disco thing was a blast for this bass player. I even remember playing some Keith Green covers with a disco slant back in the early 80s. Granted, there were some stick in the mud types that said CCM was of Satan back then, so it wasn't all unicorns and roses... but the opportunities were pretty amazing.

I was born again in 1971 also! Praise the Lord to see you continuing to walk with Jesus & have deepened in your love & faithfulness to Him! Remember well that song! Chuck Gerard & his band, 'Love Song.' Thank you & the Lord bless you & yours!

It was called 'Jesus Music!' 'Maranatha was one of those with their short worship songs to sought to bring our hearts in line with the Lord & opened doors to praising Him with all our being.

Another musician the Lord called to himself during that time is Barry McGuire. Here are several of his songs to bring the '70's into perspective. And he is still serving the Lord! My cousin became a Christian then also and ministered with Barry in the early years.

My spiritual journey started in 1970's.
- During Jesus Movement.
---
My favorite:
Songs from 'Maranatha music'.
- Someone already mentioned/posted.
---
Pioneering/early days of 'contemporary Christian music'.
----
Jesus Movement was powerful move of God.
- It also had impact in overseas.

Blessngs,
